Hellfest organizers commented:

“Hellbangers,

What can we say except that we are proud (and excited) to finally unveil the long-awaited line up of our anniversary edition! Keeping such a line up as a secret for several weeks has been no easy task, especially in the last few days…

It’s been more than 16 months since our work rhythm was turned upside down by the arrival of this virus, since the live music industry was extinguished. Despite this, our confidence has never been affected and we have kept working with a positive mindset.

The frustration of two years without a festival has led us to dream even bigger about our reunion! In 2022, we are offering a new and unique format spread over 10 days! Never done before, this formula will, without a doubt, remain in the history of so-called “extreme” music! Twice as historic, because this formula is meant to exist only in 2022 and will not happen again in the years to come.

After a first weekend from 17 to 19th June 2022, we double the fun with an additional weekend from 23rd to 26th June! A real marathon that will see no less than 350 artists on 6 stages!

As usual, the festival does not deviate from its principles: you will see artists capable of performing in stadiums, with artists who are usually playing in smaller venues, and for some even in pub caves. Punk, Heavy, Black, Hardcore, Death, Stoner, Pagan, Power, we have done our best to put together what we believe to be the “edition of the century”.

No need to list the program in detail as you are not, and for the second year, headbanging at the festival right now. You can find out all this by yourself, at home or with your friends, enjoying our virtual edition “Hellfest From Home“! (More information over here : fromhome.hellfest.fr)

This exceptional edition is also an opportunity for us to thank the pass holders who have been waiting for more than 2 years. Your loyalty and trust have kept us going and we do not have enough words to thank you. It seemed fair to us that you should access the ticket sale 24 hours before the public sale in order for you to obtain your ticket for sure.

We are aware that some of you, for professional, family or simply financial reasons, will not be able to attend this XXL edition. By going through (and only through!) our partner TICKETSWAP (please stop Viagogo and others…), you will be able to resell your pass for the weekend you are the least interested in, and thus make one more happy fan!

For all the others who will have the chance to live these 10 days of anthology with us, we promise that you will remember our reunion! As a bonus, we might even make you a nice “FINISHER” t-shirt so that this moment will remain engraved forever in your memories. Once in a lifetime celebration!

Last but not least, we could not finish without thanking all those who have supported us during these last months. Volunteers, intermittents, sponsors, service providers, media partners, people from Clisson, we are all eager to see you again and to live with you this future adventure, which promises to be historic!

Stay Strong. Stay Safe.

Talib Kweli Cancels Oslo, Norway Show Due To Taake Being Booked At The Venue

Back in February, Taake were forced to cancel their North American tour due to alleged Nazism. During this time, venues faced pressure from Antifa groups and concerned citizens, including rapper Talib Kweli, who cancelled his show at The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO after the band were booked. Now, Kweli has also cancelled tonight’s (November 19) show at the Rockerfeller Music Hall in Oslo, Norway after finding out Taake are set to perform there on April 19 as part of the Inferno Metal Festival.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, the accusations against Taake come as a result of a 2007 incident when mastermind Hoest performed with a swastika painted on his chest. Despite this, he has denied the allegations of Nazism multiple times over the years. However, the band have also faced accusations of anti-Islamic lyrics as well.

Kweli has since discussed his concerns via Twitter. You can find a couple of tweets from him below:

Hoest also commented via Pitchfork:

“He seriously thinks we’re Nazis? I have done nothing but deny this for the past eleven years, but this is what happens when Antifa run one of their slanderous campaign—there is always some jerk who takes them seriously. Personally I think it was an appalling thing to do both to his fans, and the venue, with which we have had good relations for the past 15 years.

I was a bit surprised to find he had booked this particular European show. I didn’t want to sink to his level by making anyone aware of it and spoiling it for him and his fans, even though that is something he himself seems to take great pride and pleasure in doing to other bands. Not sure if he is playing in any other venues in Europe where Taake also plays regularly.

At the end of the day I imagine this will now give venues world-wide pause for thought before actually booking and promoting him in case he is likely to agree to do a show and then pull out at the last minute because of other bands who have played there in the past, or who are booked to play in the future.”

Taake Officially Cancel North American Tour

Following pressure from Antifa groups and public outcry from citizens, including rapper Talib Kweli, Taake have officially cancelled their full North American tour. This news comes after various shows were cancelled and after King Dude dropped off the trek due to alleged Nazism. These accusations come as a result of a 2007 incident when Taake mastermind Hoest performed with a swastika painted on his chest, which he has apologized for multiple times. Aside from that, the band have also faced accusations of anti-Islamic lyrics as well.

Hoest commented:

“It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Taake‘s US Tour has been cancelled. Despite all those incredible people who stepped up and tried to help us save the tour, and to whom we are more grateful than we can express, time and logistics are just not on our side. It was not our wish to cancel, but the decision was forced on us by the illegal activities of Antifa and its supporters who applied pressure on venues and promoters to cancel shows.

Pressure, it has to be said, that has frequently been accompanied with threats of violence both towards those involved in the organisation and towards any fans attending (not to mention the bands who would be playing). Why these threats are not reported to the police, we don’t know.

We have explained on many, many occasions, the history behind what caused the problems, and there are plenty of articles in the unbiased press and on social media where you can read the truth of it, but just for the sake of clarity Taake is not now, has never been, and never will be a Nazi band. What we want to address here is the cancellation of the tour itself.

This cancellation is unfortunate in many ways, not just for the bands who were going to take part. Not just for the ordinary working Americans with families to support and bills to pay who have lost much needed income because of it. Not just for the fans who wanted to see the bands. Not just for music fans in general. But, also, and more importantly, for America as a whole.

Why? Because it is the ultimate demonstration of how, through the dissemination of lies, misinformation and unfounded accusations, along with credible threats of violence, a small minority of left wing agitators are able to force their agenda on the majority, and deprive music fans of their freedom to attend concerts and go about their day to day activities without the fear of reprisals and retaliation.

And these agitators won’t stop once they have destroyed the soft targets from Europe and other parts of the world. Their next targets will be American music, American art, American literature, American theatre, American cinema. Anything, in fact, that does not adhere strictly to their views. And if this reminds you of the McCarthy witch hunts, it is because that is EXACTLY what it is like.

Whilst none of us blame venues for cancelling because they are afraid of violence, we do deplore the excuses presented by some of them. The desire to “protect” their audience and staff, to create “safe spaces” is not a need brought about by the bands involved, nor their fans. It is the masked thugs hiding behind the banner of Antifa and other organisations like them, who are doing all the threatening.

And maybe we should also remind these venues that so many of the musical genres today exist due to those other small venues back in the day who dared stand up to threats and gave a voice to those musicians who brought us Blues and Jazz – the basis of so much of today’s music.

We would also like to speak out about celebrities like Talib Kweli, who was unfortunate enough to have allowed himself to be played by the lies spread by Antifa and who, as a result, issued statements that are libellous and slanderous. His heart may have misguidedly been in the right place, but his brain, and his legal advisors, were not.

Had he bothered to check the facts he would have realised that he had put himself in a position of looking like someone who doesn’t know, or understand, or even care about, all the facts, and who is easily manipulated by others to dance to their tune.

We should also mention those members of the press who failed to fact check and did not bother to contact us, or anyone else for that matter, for our side of the story. They simply went right ahead and printed libellous statements. This is irresponsible journalism at its worst, and we can’t just single out inexperienced editors of webzines. Complicit in this are long-established and (once) respected publications. Their actions show the utter contempt they have for facts and the disrespect they have for their readers.

Ending on a positive note, we really do need thank those who stood by us, and especially the venues who refused to be cowed, and those that stepped in offering us alternatives for cancelled shows. We have had messages from all over the world, and from people of all political and religious persuasions, offering not just their support, but also offering their help. And these are not just our fans.

We have been contacted by people who admit that they had never heard of us, or that they hate black metal, or that they hate Taake, but have nevertheless felt compelled to let us know of the disgust they feel at the way Antifa, and their like, demand slavish adherence to their agenda, and punish anyone who defies them, riding roughshod over the freedoms of the American people to decide for themselves.

You, my friends, do not need to apologise for the lies and actions of a fringe group. You are the majority, you are the ones who refuse to bow your heads to those who would dictate how you live your lives, and who attempt to restrict your freedoms – you are the ones who can do something about it.

Talib Kweli Cancels Kansas City Show Due To Taake Being Booked At The Venue

UPDATE:

The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO has now decided to cancel Taake’s show:

“We have decided to cancel the Taake event scheduled to be held March 31st at The Riot Room. Refunds will be processed immediately for anyone who purchased tickets. As a venue, it is our priority to provide a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all patrons, artists, and staff. This always has, and will always continue to be our primary goal.”

So far the band’s New York and Chicago shows have also been cancelled due to alleged Nazism.

ORIGINAL STORY:

As previously reported, allegations of Nazism against Taake have led to the cancellation of the band’s March 24 show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, NY and have also caused opening act King Dude to drop off their North American tour. Now, Billboard are reporting that rapper Talib Kweli has cancelled his show at The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO due to the venue booking Taake.

Talib Kweli commented:

“My position is that the venue should not want to host that band whether the band cancelled or not, and should issue an apology for even booking the band. The response I received was that the venue did not want to choose sides between a band that sympathizes with racism and bigotry and me. I think it’s time to choose a side.

I find it appalling that The Riot Room refuses to apologize for booking this band. I wouldn’t feel safe bringing my team, family, and fans into a venue that is sympathetic to white nationalism, so I’ve cancelled the show. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to performing in Kansas City.“

The allegations come as a result of a 2007 incident when Taake mastermind Hoest performed with a swastika painted on his chest. He has since apologized for that multiple times. Aside from that, the band have also faced accusations of anti-Islamic lyrics as well.

King Dude Drops Off Taake’s Upcoming Tour Following Nazism Allegations

King Dude has announced that he will no longer be opening for Taake on their North American tour. His decision comes as a result of the recent allegations of Nazism against Taake.

King Dude commented:

“For reasons out of my control, and frankly out of my realm of understanding, I will be removing myself from the tour with Taake. It must be made clear that I am a Luciferian and do not preach hate, nor would I endorse a setting that allows hate to happen. I believe in both personal and spiritual growth as well as the spread of knowledge beyond all sacrifice and at all costs.

The banner under which people enter a King Dude concert must be welcoming to all people of all walks of life, race, religion, gender etc. This should go without saying as this has always been the way I have conducted my concerts and I’m not sure why it should change for this tour. I absolutely do not welcome political discourse at my concerts as it has no place there.

My concerts are a place that should be a sanctuary for everyone, a place for people to find church without having to go to one.

Stay tuned here for updates regarding make up shows to all of you. Thanks again for your continued support.

With the Light and Love of Lucifer,

– King Dude“

Taake’s New York Show Reportedly Cancelled Over Allegations Of Nazism

According to Lambgoat, Taake’s March 24 show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, NY has been cancelled due to allegations of Nazism. New York City Antifa were among the groups pushing for the cancellation. Other venues are also being pressured to scrap further dates as well. The allegations come as a result of a 2007 incident when mastermind Hoest performed with a swastika painted on his chest. He has since apologized for that multiple times. Aside from that, the band have also faced accusations of anti-Islamic lyrics as well.

UPDATE: Hoest has now commented:

“I have clearly explained many times throughout the years that me wearing a swastika once at a German concert was not at all meant to show support for the nazi ideology.

It was all about doing something extreme for the sake of it, which certainly backfired.
But it has now been 11 years and the band has even performed in Israel (!)

Anyway, similar incidents have not happened in Taake’s 25 year long career and will obviously not happen again. But certain parties seem to find this cold case unforgivable nevertheless, insisting on wilful misunderstanding.

So, once and for all, Taake is not a racist band. Never has been, never will be. Still claiming so is as ridiculous and unfounded as are the attempts at sabotaging our highly anticipated shows
