Leprous To Release New Album “Aphelion” In August

Leprous have announced that their new album “Aphelion” will be released on August 27. Pre-orders and a new song from the effort will be available on June 25,

Einar Solberg commented:

“We had no plans to start with a new album, then came Covid. ‘Aphelion‘ is a very different album. It’s intuitive and spontaneous. We’ve experimented with many completely different ways of writing music and explored new ways to work. There has been no room for overthinking, exaggerated perfectionism or carefully planned songs. I believe this is one of the strengths of this album. It feels alive, it feels free and it does not come across as too calculated.

The album was recorded in three different studios, and a few of the songs were actually recorded in all three studios, Ghost Ward Studios, Ocean Sound Recordings and Cederberg Studios.

The aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object where it is farthest from the sun, and it has a symbolic value which I will leave to your own interpretation.”

In other news, the group will also be celebrating their 20th anniversary on a European/UK tour:

Silver Lake (Amorphis) Premiere Video For New Song “Ray Of Light” Featuring Einar Solberg (Leprous)

Amorphis guitarist Esa Holopainen has shared a new song, titled “Ray Of Light”, from his Silver Lake solo project. This track features Einar Solberg (Leprous) and an official video for it can be found below. Silver Lake’s debut self-titled album will be released on May 28. Holopainen commented:

“‘Ray Of Light‘ was one of the first songs that I wrote for the album. The only vocalist I imagined to sing this song was Einar Solberg. We have toured together in the past and besides he is a true gentleman he is absolutely one of the most unique singers that I know. I hope you all enjoy this song and the music video as much as I do.”

Leprous To Stream “Malina” & “Pitfalls” Performances This Weekend, Share Behind The Scenes Look At Their Sessions For “Castaway Angels”

Leprous have announced a couple of streaming concerts at the Notodden Teater in Notodden, Norway. The first one will take place on February 20 and it will feature a full performance of “Malina.“ The second one will take place on February 21 and it will feature a full performance of “Pitfalls“. Tickets are available at munin.live.

The band commented:

“We are not a band made to sit still, so we look very much forward for this weekend playing hybrid concerts on stage with both ‘Malina‘ and ‘Pitfalls‘ in its entirety. Everything will be streamed in high quality real time from the same stage as the combined stream we did with Ihsahn in December, at the Notodden Theater. Two songs from ‘Pitfalls‘ have never ever been played live, and one from ‘Malina‘ has more or less never been played live either, so it’s a nice way to step up our game!”

In other news, the group have also shared a behind the scenes look at the sessions for their song “Castaway Angels.“ They said the following about that:

“2020 was a different year for everyone. After a strict lock down during the spring, we were finally allowed to work together face to face. However, the border into Sweden was still off limits for us. This meant that we had to find a studio in Norway, as opposed to recording with our good friend and producer David Castillo at Gröndahl in Stockholm.

Being forced to think in new directions can be an unpleasant and challenging experience, but it can also open new opportunities and relationships. In our case, luckily, it was the latter. We got in contact with the guys from the magical ‘Ocean Sound Recordings’ at Giske, just outside the city of Ålesund. This was the start of a beautiful relationship that has added a new dimension to Leprous’ sound.

Our first session at Ocean Sound resulted in the making and documentation of ‘Castaway Angels‘, released December 4th. This video documents the making of CA and it’ll give you a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how we worked together, as well as our individual reflections on how this session took part in shaping us as a band.

Without this project, it’s likely that the idea of the ‘Let’s write a song together’-concept never would’ve been born. Thank you so much for your continued support of our work as musicians and artists!”

Amorphis Guitarist Esa Holopainen Recruits Soilwork, Katatonia, Leprous, Etc. Members For Debut Silver Lake Album

Amorphis guitarist Esa Holopainen has revealed the details for the debut album from his solo project Silver Lake. The self-titled effort will be released on May 28 and it will feature members of Soilwork, Katatonia, Leprous, and more.

“Silver Lake” Track Listing:

01. “Silver Lake” (instrumental)
02. “Sentiment” (feat. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia)
03. “Storm” (feat. Håkan Hemlin of Nordman)
04. “Ray Of Light” (feat. Einar Solberg of Leprous)
05. “Alkusointu” (feat. Vesa-Matti Loiri)
06. “In Her Solitude” (feat. Tomi Joutsen of Amorphis)
07. “Promising Sun” (feat. Björn ‘Speed’ Strid of Soilwork / The Night Flight Orchestra)
08. “Fading Moon” (feat. Anneke Van Giersbergen)
09. “Apprentice” (feat. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia)

Holopainen commented:

“At first, I really didn’t know if the album would turn out to be purely instrumental or would there be vocalists as well. However, one thing was certain, I wouldn’t be the singer of Silver Lake. Many times, when people think about a guitarist’s solo album, they get the impression of technical stuff with a huge amounts of notes played extremely fast. Well, I‘m not a big fan of that kind of music. Whenever I write, I always want to pile up interesting songs, and not just shred for the sake of it.”

Ihsahn And Leprous Announce Streaming Event

Ihsahn and Leprous have announced a special streaming concert. The event will take place on December 20 and tickets can be found HERE. Both acts issued a joint statement:

“The collaboration between Ihsahn and Leprous goes back the better part of two decades, where songs, members and performances have been heavily intertwined. This exclusive performance will celebrate these connections even further!”

Leprous Premiere “Castaway Angels” Video

Leprous have premiered a new song titled “Castaway Angels.” You can find an official video for that below:

Einar Solberg commented:

“This year we’ve all had to readjust our lives, do new things. Missed out on things we were supposed to do, and find new things to do. One day in the beginning of the corona outbreak in Norway I came to TorO’s house with a song we were supposed to work on together.

The problem was that I was already finished with the sketch we were supposed to be working on (which was later on thrown away as it wasn’t that good after all), so we just sat down to try to make something new. Him with the acoustic guitar, and me with my voice.

During a quite short time, we came up with the main structure of what was later to become “Castaway Angels“. Very basic, very pure and no technology to distract us. Just the melody and the guitar. So once we got in the amazing Ocean Sound Recording near Aalesund, Norway we continued that approach with the full band. We recorded the song together in the studio (when we were not busy sitting in the Jacuzzi being in awe by the view) in one take, after jamming together for one evening.

It’s so typical to get obsessed with details, perfectionism and layers. But here we just wanted to play together. Do something pure and simple. I’m very pleased with the result, and can’t wait for everyone to hear how we’ve been spending time together when we were supposed to be on tour.”

In other news, Solberg will also be playing a piano-led virtual concert at the Telemark Gallery in Notodden, Norway. The show will stream on December 6 and tickets can be purchased HERE.

Ihsahn Premieres Video For Cover Of A-ha’s “Manhattan Skyline” Feat. Einar Solberg (Leprous)

Ihsahn has premiered a new video for his cover of A-ha’s “Manhattan Skyline.” This track features Einar Solberg (Leprous) and it will appear on Ihsahn‘s new EP “Pharos,“ which is set to be released on September 11. Ihsahn said the following about his admiration for A-ha:

“There are some hints of A-ha even on the second Emperor album. I never wanted to be as one-dimensional as this black metal image. When I turned 40, I stopped caring but if you start out playing black metal when you’re 16, it’s hardly because you want to be everybody’s favorite.”
