Independent Metal Festivals Join Forces For Virtual “European Metal Festival Alliance” Event

13 different independent metal festivals have joined forces to create the “European Metal Festival Alliance.” The festivals will be hosting a virtual event on August 7-9 featuring exclusive performances, interviews, and more.

The following statement was issued:

“🤘🏻 THE EUROPEAN METAL FESTIVAL ALLIANCE! 🤘🏻

Summer 2020 is a very different landscape from the usual event-packed few months, so to maintain a sense of community, 13 of the best independent metal festivals in Europe has joined forces to create a unique online event for both bands and fans!

The European Metal Festival Alliance is a joint venture between Alcatraz (Belgium), ARTmania (Romania), Bloodstock (UK), Brutal Assault (Czech Republic), Dynamo (Netherlands), Into The Grave (Netherlands), Leyendas Del Rock (Spain), Metal Days (Slovenia), Midgardsblot (Norway), Motocultor (France), Party.San (Germany), Resurrection (Spain) and Summer Breeze (Germany).

A special streaming event will take place across the weekend of 7th-9th August offering exclusive live performances from a selection of yet-to-be-revealed artists chosen by each festival, as well as exclusive new interviews, and more. As a fundraiser for the beleaguered independent festival sector, who don’t have the backing of big corporate money for their survival, viewers will be asked for €6.66 for a ‘full festival pass.’ In return, they will enjoy three days of live performances by 35+ metal bands at various locations around the world and other exclusive content, from the comfort of their own home. Virtual ticket purchasers will also get a discount on a European Metal Festival Alliance ‘Rebooting for 2021’ T-shirt.

Meanwhile, to get warmed up, the newly launched destination website at ➡️ www.MetalFestivalAlliance.com will host a wide range of previous footage from this festival co-operative, including many sets not previously broadcast, throughout the summer.

❗ The line-up & schedule for the streaming event will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will be available on Friday July 10th, 2020 from www.MetalFestivalAlliance.com

As I Lay Dying Removed From 2019 Resurrection Fest

As I Lay Dying have been dropped from the 2019 Resurrection Fest in Viveiro, Spain due to backlash stemming from Tim Lambesis’ criminal past. The frontman infamously tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife in 2013 and was released from prison in December 2016.

Resurrection Fest organizers issued the following statement:

“Given the controversy after the announcement of As I Lay Dying for next year, we would like to highlight our absolutely condemnatory position against gender violence. At the festival, we are aware that it is a huge problem in society, with which we must have a special sensitivity.

Like other forms of intolerance or oppression, it has no place within our festival or within the scene of which we are part. Proof of our commitment is that during our 13 editions we have been an example of coexistence, or any other violent act. Furthermore, in the surveys of the assistants during the recent years, we have been given high results in terms of security.

Resurrection Fest for us is a celebration of music in many of its variants and for the majority of our attendees it is the best week of the year. We still try to make a festival that we would like to attend to as public and where the passion for music and coexistence among all our attendees reigns.

The decision to include the band As I Lay Dying in this year’s edition, the same way many other European festivals will do next summer, is that we believe in social reintegration and in the right of people to rehabilitate after having met a conviction. We understand that this opinion by the organization of the festival is shared by a large part of the festival attendees who requested the band in the polls.

Given the debate and the division that was created among the attendees, and in order to maintain the prevailing atmosphere of harmony among the entire festival community, we finally made the decision after talking with the band of not including As I Lay Dying in the billing of this edition.

We hope that everyone understands this situation. Resurrection Fest is an event for all types of audiences regardless of age or social group, and that forces us sometimes to make difficult decisions. Thank you very much for understanding. See you in Viveiro.”

The festival will take place on July 3-6 and Parkway Drive, Within Temptation, Trivium and more are all set to perfom.
