The Darkness Announce “Lockdown Live: Streaming Of A White Christmas” Concert

The Darkness have announced a livestream concert, which they are calling “Lockdown Live: Streaming Of A White Christmas.” The event will take place at the Indigo at The O2 in London, UK on December 18 at 8 p.m. GMT.

Frontman Justin Hawkins commented:

“Okay, so we pressed the wrong button and cancelled Easter. And we’re sorry about that. Let’s move on, yeah? Christmas is coming, and nothing says joy and surprise like The Darkness rocking live in your living room! Santa gets a day off as we deliver the Premier Cru streamed concert of the year live to you from the IndigO2 in London town. Let us in at your interweb window as we celebrate life, love, Christmas and rock music, all wrapped in tinsel and delivered to you on a golden dream sleigh of almost ludicrous proportions.

Expect hits, old and new. Beards, flayed by the snow engines of entertainment. Fairy lights, plugged in and mostly working. A few brave and/or immune rockers will have the good fortune to join us in the stadium of dreams for this exclusive event — check out our written facts to understand. This will be an unparalleled night of true artistic integrity, so don’t dilly dally. Let’s rock our cocking socks off together for Christmaaaaaas!”

Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 9 a.m. GMT on November 27 via AXS. Notably, a limited amount of people will be able to attend the show in person with social distancing requirements in place. Those fans are encouraged to show up in Christmas themed fancy dress. The performance will also be recorded and released as a live album, titled “Streaming Of A White Christmas,” in April 2021. That effort can be pre-ordered HERE.

In other news, The Darkness have also teamed up with Signature Brew to create a new beer called “Bells End.” Guitarist Dan Hawkins said the following about the seasonal bitter ale:

“The tasting session for Bells End went well. It was a big night and we tried every ale that we could think of. We wanted a beer that’s punchy and drinkable at the same time. Signature Brew really know their stuff and captured exactly what we were after. Bells End has got a bit of oomph to it but it’s something you can drink in the run-up to Christmas and throughout the whole season. It’s a very wintry beer, it’s perfect and we can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

My Chemical Romance, The Darkness, Quicksand, Etc. Members Cover The Ramones’ “I Believe In Miracles”

Boris Pelekh (Gogol Bordello, Hey Guy) has brought together a group of various musicians to cover the Ramones’ “I Believe In Miracles” to raise money for a GoFundMe page that was launched in support of Partners In Health. In addition to Pelekh, the performance also features: Justin Hawkins (The Darkness), Frank Turner, Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today), Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello), Tom Higgenson (Plain White T’s, Million Miler), Brett Anderson (The Donnas), Michael Miley (Rival Sons) Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance, Frank Iero and the Future Violents), Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas (MuteMath, Pink Dust), and Nathen Maxwell (Flogging Molly).

Pelekh, whose mother works as a staff nurse at New York Presbyterian/Queens hospital, commented:

“It was roughly around late March 2020 when her hospital became a central hotspot of the pandemic in NYC, and her unit was repurposed for COVID-19 patients.

The situation was growing more and more grim by the day, as I would get reports from her every night. It became very tough for me to simply isolate at home and not try and help somehow. Since I play guitar in a very influential punk-rock band; Gogol Bordello, I decided to grab a bunch of friends from other beloved rock and punk bands to come together virtually, and make a multimedia version of a hopeful and anthemic punk-rock song. I wanted to raise people’s spirits and help fund a charitable organization dealing with COVID-19.

My mom always complained about the lack of PPE in her hospital, so I went out searching for a charitable organization that specifically funded PPE and other medical equipment for healthcare workers. I found the highly reputable Partners In Health who were very closely aligned with my objective and were working on an international level.

I picked one of the most timeless punk bands from Queens; Ramones. Their song ‘I Believe in Miracles’ could not be a better fit. Partners In Health loved the idea and we quickly affiliated to get this video to be a fundraiser for PPE and other medical equipment across the world. With all set in place, the individual band members sent me their parts, and I threw together this multimedia collaboration of Ramones’ ‘I Believe in Miracles.’

#rockforhopeproject’s motto is simple, ‘If you’re not in the position to give, share this video with someone that is.’”

The Darkness Premiere “In Another Life” Music Video

The Darkness have premiered a new video for their song “In Another Life.” This track is from the band’s latest album “Easter Is Cancelled.”

Frontman Justin Hawkins said the following:

“These days music videos are too often an afterthought when structuring an album campaign… ‘walk towards the camera looking mean… ooh, jump off that… Make it look like that thing is going up your bum,’ the director suggests, and like spaniels we obediently do so, at the expense of dignity and self respect. The results are invariably rubbish.

In Kristy [‘Kristy May Currie’ (‘Hells Bells’ co-director)], we have found our savior. She came to us with an entire concept, storyboard, shot list and cast. All we had to do was look fabulous and ‘act.’ It was like the glorious olden days, when everything we did mattered enough to be done properly. Kristy is brilliant and passionate and I hope we get to work with her again!

I know from my own experience that when one is as beautiful as [model and TV personality] Abbey Clancy, there is no obligation to be nice to anybody. There’s no obligation for her to do anything at all; the sheer force of her beauty will bend the universe to her will. Nevertheless, she is the living embodiment of grace and kindness. Aside from her brilliant acting and dazzling appearance, she was awesome company and we had a great laugh all day. I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps she is an actual angel. Anyway, I’m a disciple of Clancy and I make no apologies for that. I hereby dedicate my life to her.

I hope folks enjoy this vid, it was a thrill to make. We all insisted on doing our own stunts so this may be the last The Darkness music video for a while as we explore opportunities in Hollywood.”

Clancy also commented:

“It was so much fun saving Justin from the fiery gates of hell. I’m a big fan of The Darkness and I’m so happy they asked me to be involved. The guys made the video shoot so easy and we had so much fun on set. It looks amazing, and playing an angel was a heavenly way to spend the day.”
