Mitch Malloy On Great White’s Recent North Dakota Show: “I Never Apologized”

As previously reported, Great White played a concert in Dickinson, ND on July 9 with no social distancing or mask orders. The move was understandably controversial and the band ultimately apologized. However, in a since deleted Facebook post, frontman Mitch Malloy said he “never apologized” and that reports regarding the lack of safety measures are “fake news”:

“Front row Great White show @first_on_first in my home town of Dickinson ND. Fake news said no masks no social distancing. I keep saying otherwise and this pic proves my point. I never apologized. And never will. It was an awesome gig at my good buddies festival for my hometown crowd.”

Great White Play Show In North Dakota With No Social Distancing And No Masks

On Thursday night (July 9), Great White apparently played a concert in Dickinson, North Dakota with no social distancing restrictions and no mask orders. This news comes after North Dakota surpassed 4,000 cases of COVID-19 with 87 deaths related to the disease.

April Getz, an event coordinator for Odd Fellows, told The Dickinson Press the following about the show, which was held as part of “First On First: Dickinson Summer Nights”:

“We do not have restrictions, believe it or not, we don’t have any. It’s one of those things where if people feel comfortable coming down and mixing and mingling, that’s their personal choice. We’re leaving it up to everybody that chooses to attend.”

UPDATE: The band’s publicist has since issued a statement to Blabbermouth:

“GREAT WHITE would like to address our Thursday, July 9, at First On First Dickinson Summer Nights concert in North Dakota.

“We understand that there are some people who are upset that we performed this show, during this trying time. We assure you that we worked with the Promoter. North Dakota’s government recommends masks be worn, however, we are not in a position to enforce the laws.

“We have had the luxury of hindsight and we would like to apologize to those who disagree with our decision to fulfill our contractual agreement.

“The Promoter and staff were nothing but professional and assured us of the safety precautions.

“Our intent was simply to perform our gig, outside, in a welcoming, small town.

“We value the health and safety of each and every one of our fans, as well as our American and global community.

“We are far from perfect.”
