Hellfest organizers commented:

“Hellbangers,

What can we say except that we are proud (and excited) to finally unveil the long-awaited line up of our anniversary edition! Keeping such a line up as a secret for several weeks has been no easy task, especially in the last few days…

It’s been more than 16 months since our work rhythm was turned upside down by the arrival of this virus, since the live music industry was extinguished. Despite this, our confidence has never been affected and we have kept working with a positive mindset.

The frustration of two years without a festival has led us to dream even bigger about our reunion! In 2022, we are offering a new and unique format spread over 10 days! Never done before, this formula will, without a doubt, remain in the history of so-called “extreme” music! Twice as historic, because this formula is meant to exist only in 2022 and will not happen again in the years to come.

After a first weekend from 17 to 19th June 2022, we double the fun with an additional weekend from 23rd to 26th June! A real marathon that will see no less than 350 artists on 6 stages!

As usual, the festival does not deviate from its principles: you will see artists capable of performing in stadiums, with artists who are usually playing in smaller venues, and for some even in pub caves. Punk, Heavy, Black, Hardcore, Death, Stoner, Pagan, Power, we have done our best to put together what we believe to be the “edition of the century”.

No need to list the program in detail as you are not, and for the second year, headbanging at the festival right now. You can find out all this by yourself, at home or with your friends, enjoying our virtual edition “Hellfest From Home“! (More information over here : fromhome.hellfest.fr)

This exceptional edition is also an opportunity for us to thank the pass holders who have been waiting for more than 2 years. Your loyalty and trust have kept us going and we do not have enough words to thank you. It seemed fair to us that you should access the ticket sale 24 hours before the public sale in order for you to obtain your ticket for sure.

We are aware that some of you, for professional, family or simply financial reasons, will not be able to attend this XXL edition. By going through (and only through!) our partner TICKETSWAP (please stop Viagogo and others…), you will be able to resell your pass for the weekend you are the least interested in, and thus make one more happy fan!

For all the others who will have the chance to live these 10 days of anthology with us, we promise that you will remember our reunion! As a bonus, we might even make you a nice “FINISHER” t-shirt so that this moment will remain engraved forever in your memories. Once in a lifetime celebration!

Last but not least, we could not finish without thanking all those who have supported us during these last months. Volunteers, intermittents, sponsors, service providers, media partners, people from Clisson, we are all eager to see you again and to live with you this future adventure, which promises to be historic!

Stay Strong. Stay Safe.

Ensiferum Premiere “Andromeda” Video

Ensiferum have premiered a new video for their new song “Andromeda.” This track is from the band’s new album “Thalassic,” which will be released on July 10. In other news, the group will also be hosting a virtual record release show from Sonic Pump Studio in Helsinki, Finland on July 10 at 12 p.m. EST / 9 a.m. PST. You can watch that at Keikalla.fi.

Ensiferum Premiere New Song “Rum, Women, Victory”, Reveal Details For New Album “Thalassic”

Ensiferum have premiered a new song titled “Rum, Women, Victory.” This track is from the band’s new album “Thalassic,” which will be released on July 10.

“Thalassic” Track Listing:

01. “Seafarer’s Dream”
02. “Rum, Women, Victory”
03. “Andromeda”
04. “The Defence Of The Sampo”
05. “Run From The Crushing Tide”
06. “For Sirens”
07. “One With The Sea”
08. “Midsummer Magic”
09. “Cold Northland (Väinämöinen Part III)”
10. “Merille Lahteva” (bonus track)
11. “I’ll Stay By Your Side” (bonus track)

Sami Hinkka had the following to say about “Thalassic,” which translates to “of or relating to seas” from ancient Greek:

“I think we managed to take another step ahead musically and we also utilized the best parts of our old sound. There are lots of Ensiferum’s trademarks: beautiful folkish melodies, ass-kicking riffs, a nice mix of different vocals and great singalong choruses.”

He also revealed that the record has a theme:

“The idea of it started to brew in my mind when I was doing interviews for ‘Two Paths’ and many journalists asked if it was a theme album, and I noticed that I was answering all the time that because of the way we compose it’s almost impossible to make a theme album. This really started to piss me off and the decision was made: the next album would have a theme. At that time, we already had a few songs almost ready for the next album, and I started to listen to the demos much more from the feeling aspect instead of analyzing them musically. For some reason, all of them took me to a seashore, and the theme was found: something related to sea or water. So I started to read about history, myths and legend around the world that had something to do with the theme, but even though all of the lyrics are obviously inspired by this, I tried my best to keep Ensiferum’s heroic mentality in them. In the end, there were too many ideas for lyrics, because I didn’t set myself any boundaries — like all stories would have to be Nordic, etc, and one of my favourite songs on the album tells about Andromeda from Greek mythology. I can’t promise that this way of lyric-writing will be the future of Ensiferum, but at least we did this once.”

He also added the following about working with producer Janne Joutsenniemi:

“We like to go to a studio when we have all the songs 99.9% ready so the producer’s main job is to kick our asses while we record. Of course Janne Joutsenniemi is a world-class producer, and we asked his opinion if we were doubting any details. It was really a pleasure to work with him again, and I think this was one of the most easy-going studio sessions I have ever been part of. We are extremely happy with the result.”

Ensiferum Finish Recording New Album

Ensiferum have finished the recording process for their new album. The band will begin mixing the effort on February 17.

Sami Hinkka commented:

“Hi folks! 🙂

The new Ensiferum album is recorded and the mixing starts on Monday. Just the raw tracks sound incredible and I personally think it’s the best album Ensiferum has ever made. The way i see it, we managed to combine the best elements of the old school and the more recent elements of Ensiferum’s music. I can’t wait to hear the final mixes and most of all, to play these songs live!

We’ll have some surprises coming up with Metal De Facto during the spring plus we’ll start working with our second album quite soon. So remember to like/follow us to get all the news.

Have a brilliant weekend!”
