Host (Paradise Lost) To Release Debut Album “IX” In February

Paradise Lost’s Gregor Mackintosh and Nick Holmes have launched a new gothic dance-pop project called Host. The band’s debut album, “IX,” will be released on February 24 and a video for its first single, “Tomorrow’s Sky,“ can be found below:

“IX” Track Listing:

01. “Wretched Soul”
02. “Tomorrow’s Sky”
03 – “Divine Emotion”
04. “Hiding From Tomorrow”
05. “A Troubled Mind”
06. “My Only Escape”
07. “Years Of Suspicion”
08. “Inquistion”
09. “Instinct”

Digipak Bonus Tracks:

10. “I Ran” (A Flock Of Seagulls cover)
11. “Hiding From Tomorrow” (Lustmord remix)
12. “Tomorrow’s Sky” (GosT remix)

Mackintosh commented:

“Host is something that I had in mind for a few years but never had the time to do it justice until now. It’s taking the concept of what we attempted to do on the Paradise Lost album ‘Host‘ but approaching it in a modern context. It’s part 80s goth, part electro , part rock but none of them specifically. The emphasis is on hooks and atmosphere. It’s quite a challenge to make miserable music catchy and hopefully we’ve achieved that to some degree.”

He also added:

“We always stood by ‘Host‘ as an album. This project is not totally connected to that album, but some of the ideas are extrapolated. We’re taking the basic premise and trying it out now. And, really, it was something fun and interesting for us to do. We’ve been doing Paradise Lot for a long time and got an itch to try something different from where PL is now. I could take PL down this route again. Who knows? It may happen if we live long enough, but I thought, ‘Why not now?’ I had the time to do it.”

Paradise Lost Part Ways With Drummer Waltteri Väyrynen

Paradise Lost have officially parted ways with drummer Waltteri Väyrynen. The band have since recruited Guido Montanarini (Strigoi) as a fill-in.

Väyrynen commented:

“Dear Fans and friends,

I’m sad to announce that I’m leaving my position as the drummer of Paradise Lost. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m insanely proud to have been a part of this legendary band’s history, playing hundreds of shows across the globe and recording the last two studio albums.

It needs to be emphasized that my decision involves absolutely no bad blood or drama whatsoever and I will forever consider the guys in the band my friends and I’m gonna miss them all dearly.

I’d like to express my gratitude to Nick, Greg, Steve, Aaron, the management and the crew for everything and making me feel like home for the past 7 and a half years. Last but not least; thanks to all the fans around the world for your support over the years, it means everything to me!

I wish the band all the best in their future endeavours and I’m looking forward to hearing which direction they are heading next.

As for myself, I guess you’ll hear from me soon so this is not a goodbye.

Cheers Everyone!”

Drummer Martin “Axe” Axenrot’s Departure From Opeth Was Reportedly Related To His COVID-19 Vaccination Status

It appears Martin “Axe” Axenrot’s departure from Opeth was related to his refusal to get vaccinated for COVID-19. The news was confirmed by Paradise Lost vocalist Nick Holmes, who performs with the drummer in Bloodbath.

Holmes told Blabbermouth the following when asked about Axenrot’s current status in Bloodbath:

“He’s still in the band as far as I’m aware. I haven’t seen him for three years, maybe more. Waltteri’s [Väyrynen, PARADISE LOST] been playing drums with BLOODBATH more than Axe has in the last couple of years.”

He also added:

“I mean, [Martin] was working with OPETH prior to the pandemic, so he decided to take a backseat to the live shows and Waltteri did the [BLOODBATH] live shows ever since. He’s still in [BLOODBATH]. The whole pandemic — he didn’t want to get the vaccine, so that caused issues with travel and touring with OPETH when they started to go out again six months ago. That caused them issues there. It’s come over to BLOODBATH for sure.”

Paradise Lost To Reissue “Live Death” In September

Paradise Lost will be reissuing their 1990 live release, “Live Death,” on September 2. The effort will be available on vinyl and CD/DVD and it can be pre-ordered HERE. The following was said about the set:

“‘Live Death‘ features a band still in their formative years, with an early showcase of their raw potential from Bradford Queens Hall, 1989, in their home county of West Yorkshire, England. From an era of what was still an evolving and blossoming extreme metal scene, Paradise Lost already displayed an advanced maturity to their compositions and a developing style of their own, as the quintet perform a set containing tracks featured on their debut album, the masterpiece of death metal that is ‘Lost Paradise’.”
