Kataklysm’s Maurizio Iacono Signs With eOne Music For His Invictus Solo Project

Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm, Ex Deo) has signed a new deal with eOne Music for his Invictus solo project. Notably, Iacono worked on his new album with Chris Clancy (Mutiny Within) and Jean-François Dagenais (Kataklysm, Ex Deo).

Scott Givens, eOne Senior Vice President, Rock & Metal, commented:

“I’m very excited to finally be working with Maurizio Iacono. He has been a force in metal for years and we look forward to a great future together starting with the release of Invictus.”

Iacono added:

“I’ve explored many facets of the music business, from performing, writing, and producing, to managing bands’ careers but I’ve never explored that deep down energy inside my thoughts that drives me to always compete and, in many ways, survive everything thrown at me. I’ve found that I’ve matured enough now to release something that I’ve been waiting to do for a long time and explore different musical lines within the metal world to bring a more personal touch to what I have been doing over the years. You will obviously find some fragments of Kataklysm in Invictus, but you will explore a completely new approach. I’m very excited and honored that eOne showed so much enthusiasm to sign this project and bring it to light. I look forward to this new chapter in my life together with this great label.”

Kataklysm Premiere “Defiant” Video

Kataklysm have premiered a new video for their song “Defiant.” This track is from the band’s latest album “Unconquered.”

Maurizio Iacono commented:

“March 25th, marks six months since the release of what we call our quarantine album, ‘Unconquered‘. There were many songs to pick from but after consulting with our label we both came to the conclusion and agreed that ‘Defiant‘ was the song to pick for this video. The reason is that it’s what we need to be at the moment as we face a chaotic and unstable world.

It’s an intense song that screams out strength in the face of the unknown. ‘Defiant‘ was filmed by acclaimed director Scott Hansen in the Atlanta area and the storyline deals with a soldier dealing with PTSD after experiencing the horror of war. Unfortunately, due to Canada’s strict COVID-19 travel rules, bassist Stephane Barbe couldn’t make it to the video shoot so we decided to still shoot some parts with myself and J-F so we could still have some sort of band presence in it. The song is dedicated to the ones who sacrificed everything in order for us to have the freedoms today that so many take for granted.”

Kataklysm Premiere “Cut Me Down” Video

Kataklysm have premiered a new video for their new song “Cut Me Down.” This track is from their new album “Unconquered,” which was released today (September 25). Maurizio Iacono commented:

“‘Cut Me Down‘ is a melodic, high octane assault, with thrash elements and relentless power, showcasing another angle of our new album, ‘Unconquered‘, which is released today! The lyrical idea of this song is being surrounded by someone whose sole purpose is betraying and taking advantage of you, I lived with this type of scenario around me many times. Luckily for me, I trust no one. I did however trust Tuomas Saukkonen of Wolfheart to come and give a hand on the song and rip through the chorus with me as a special guest!”

Kataklysm Announce New Drummer

Kataklysm have officially parted ways with drummer Oli Beaudoin. Taking his place will be James Payne (ex-Hour Of Penance/Vital Remains, etc.), who recently shared footage of himself performing “The Killshot”:

The band commented:

“Kataklysm have officially parted ways with drummer Oli Beaudoin, we would like to thank him for his work on the past four albums and his professionalism on the live stage over the last few years , we wish him all the best with his future Endeavors.

With that being said, we are excited to welcome acclaimed Los Angeles based drumming monster James Payne ( Hour of Penance, Hiss from the Moat , Vital Remains ) to the Kataklysm family, James will be behind the throne for the upcoming “Unconquered” world campaign and beyond . Please Give him a warm welcome 🔥🤘”

Payne added :

“I am thrilled and honored to join Kataklysm and participate in a piece of their amazing legacy! I’ve been a fan of the band since I was in High school, and to think of sharing the stages around the world with them is incredible! I can’t wait to start this experience and give the fans all I have behind the drums at every show we’ll play and beyond!”

As previously reported, Kataklysm‘s new album “Unconquered” will be released on September 25.

Kataklysm Premiere “Underneath The Scars” Video

Kataklysm have premiered a new video for their new song “Underneath The Scars.” This track is from their new album “Unconquered,” which will be released on September 25.

Maurizio Iacono commented:

“‘Underneath The Scars‘ is a bulldozer of a track that will surely ignite the world’s metalheads into straight headbanging madness. We look forward to bringing this beast live when the time comes. Since all the Kataklysm members live in different states and countries as well as all the travel restrictions in place, there was no way we could get together and film another concept video as we had planned.

So we dug up some unreleased footage from last year’s European headlining tour and decided to pull together a cool montage of what we miss the most; playing live with our crazy fans by our side! Meanwhile, crank up ‘Underneath The Scars‘ and pull them horns up in the air!”

Kataklysm’s Jean-François Dagenais Offers Health Update After Testing Positive For COVID-19

As previously reported, Kataklysm’s Jean-François Dagenais recently tested positive for COVID-19. Now, the guitarist has offered a health update saying that he is currently recovering at home.

Dagenais said the following:

“Hey, folks! First, I want to thank everyone for the outpour of support from all our awesome fans and music colleagues around the world. It really gave me a morale boost! Last week started like any normal week. I was doing press for Kataklysm‘s new album Unconquered and on Wednesday morning I woke up and felt like I got hit by a train; I had a slight fever, body aches, and very low energy.

The next day I went to my doctor after no improvement and they administered the COVID test to be on the safe side. It came back positive and I was shocked because I’m the extra careful type of guy. I wear a mask religiously, wash my hands, and barely go out. Anyhow, over the weekend I started to feel much better and started feeling like my old self again.

Luckily, I am in decent health with no underlying conditions. I will self-quarantine at home with my family (so far they are fine) and will be free of this thing in no time. I don’t want to make a big thing out of this and overshadow the new album but wanted to share the news that anyone can get this so be careful out there It is a nasty bug, the first few days were brutal but at the end of the day I’m fine and I will get over it.”

Kataklysm Guitarist Jean-François Dagenais Tests Positive For COVID-19

Kataklysm guitarist Jean-François Dagenais has tested positive for COVID-19. The band commented:

“We regret to inform everyone that our guitarist and founding member J-F Dagenais has tested positive for COVID 19 after experiencing severe symptoms, we will give you an update on his condition during the next few days. #Kataklysm #Jfdagenais”
