Emma Ruth Rundle Premieres “In My Afterlife” Video

Emma Ruth Rundle has premiered a new video for her song “In My Afterlife.” This track is from her latest album “Engine Of Hell.” Rundle commented:

“[The video is] an expiration of insanity, a lot of sagazan and influence from Julie Taymor’s circa 2000 film rendition of ‘Titus.’ I developed the character, makeup and costume myself, which I made by painting and modifying found articles while I was in the UK. This mask or character is supposed to represent what is left after life ends, wandering the halls of their own existence, reliving little joys, and sufferings. They are a demented and unsettled character.”

Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle have premiered a new video for their song “Anhedonia.” You can check that out below:

Stop-motion editor and video producer Cressa Beer commented:

“The core idea of the video came from an artist and mutual friend that Chelsea and I both love, Jess Schnabel [Blood Milk Jewels], who created a ‘grief moth’ inspired by real moths that drink the tears of sleeping birds. It’s an idea I’ve wanted to animate for a while. So, that became the backbone of the project: the lifecycle of a moth literally born from overwhelming sadness. From there, the video grew into a reflection of what I was experiencing during quarantine, as I found myself confronting my own grief and deeply rooted trauma. I suffer from PTSD that envelops me like a black void. I wanted to visually articulate how that feels, as well as feelings like disassociation and loneliness, the way that trauma can physically alter your body and mentally reshape the world around you. But still, the moth can fight its way out, can fly, can follow the light. Just like the comfort in the final verse of the song, I wanted to still show that healing is possible.”

Chelsea Wolfe has teamed up with Emma Ruth Rundle for a new song titled “Anhedonia.” You can stream that below:

Wolfe commented:

“I wrote Anhedonia after I experienced it during summer of 2019, then tucked the song away and moved forward with my acoustic album and subsequent North American tour. When COVID-19 hit and stay-at-home orders began in 2020, my European tour was canceled and I had to fly home. Restless, I started listening through my archives of unfinished songs and little unused ideas. When I heard Anhedonia again, it hit me how strangely relevant the lyrics felt to current times. I’d been wanting to work on a song with Emma for a long time, so I recorded it and sent it her way. She graciously added her gorgeous vocals and lead guitar, and then Ben mixed it, adding his signature sound landscape as a fortress around the song. As I listened back to the final version, I was finally able to set free those emotions which I couldn’t feel back in 2019. I had worries around releasing the song, not wanting to romanticize the condition of anhedonia (the inability to feel pleasure), but I also understood that it could possibly be cathartic for others who are struggling, as it was for me, to sing and dance my way out of a depression.”

Rundle added:

“I was moved to tears when she sent me Anhedonia, which made getting through the tracking very emotional and slow on my end. I love the way the guitars I tracked morphed in Ben’s mix. The whole song swirls in a poignant eddy of sorrowful sound and still takes a hard swing at my heart hearing it now.”

Thou and Emma Ruth Rundle have premiered a new song titled “The Valley.” This track is from their new collaborative album “May Our Chambers Be Full,“ which will be released on October 30.

Rundle commented:

“‘The Valley‘ is a place. A landscape that lacks vistas and perspectives. An analogy for unrelenting, crushing mental illness, physical pain, addiction and the isolation that can arise as a result of these diseases. There is a choice one must make once initiated into The Valley‘s fold; to press on living where no hope will ever show itself or to dissolve into its bleak grayness.

On the journey, remains of those who came before us and succumbed are visible. Instead of hope, we turn to anger and defiance for fuel and with those we fortify ourselves. The ending doesn’t resolve, but successful escape from The Valley is unlikely.”

Thou & Emma Ruth Rundle Announce New Collaborative Album, Premiere New Song “Ancestral Recall”

Thou and Emma Ruth Rundle will be releasing a new collaborative album, titled “May Our Chambers Be Full,“ on October 30. The effort’s first single, “Ancestral Recall,“ can be streamed below:

Thou guitarist Andy Gibbs commented:

“It’s an easy marriage of our styles that was truly enhanced by everyone’s input during the arrangement process. When I first wrote the main two riffs (the first one being an homage to A Perfect Circle’s ‘Sleeping Beauty‘), I didn’t know if it would fit with the vibe we were pursuing because it didn’t sound ‘Thou-y’ enough nor did it sound like something Emma would normally put on a record. Ultimately, I realized how important that trait is; this record is all about exploring territory we wouldn’t usually explore with our own records.”

Rundle added:

“Andy originally wrote the riffs and I believe I referred to it as the ‘Guitar Hero’ jam — it was hard for me to keep up and I felt like I was doing an obstacle course (in the best way). Because of the differences in our guitar tunings, it was difficult for me to match the rest exactly and I ended up coming with a single note passage to play over the most difficult section.

For me this was a good example of the collaboration and that I was able to express my style despite my limitations in a way that added to Andy’s riff. Working with him on guitars was a challenge, but most rewarding, and I feel proud of our child.”

More Bands Added To 2020 Roadburn Festival

A number of artists have been added to the 2020 Roadburn Festival including: Red Sparowes, Miserable, NGHTCRWLR, Cloud Rat, Russian Circles, Warhorse, Brutus, Hante., Rorcal, Alber Jupiter, Die Wilde Jagd, and Dead Neanderthals. The event will take place on April 16-19 in Tilburg, NET and it will be curated by Emma Ruth Rundle and James Kent (Perturbator), who both have special sets planned. Full Of Hell and Lingua Ignota will also be playing special sets as the artists in residence. Hide, Boy Harsher, HEALTH, She Past Away, and more will perform as well.
