Watch Testament, Anthrax, Etc. Members Cover Stevie Nicks’ “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”

Alex Skolnick (Testament), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Jennifer Cella (Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Randy McStine (McStine/Minnemann), Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance), and Harry Waters (McNally Waters, Roger Waters) have joined forces for a quarantine cover of Stevie Nicks’ “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” You can check that out below:

Skolnick commented:

“Just in time for #internationwomensday, a classic song that’s quite relevant today in which a woman tells it like it is (sometimes we need to just stfu & listen, amirite?). Originally by Stevie Nicks from her 1981 debut solo album ‘Bella Donna’, where she was joined by all of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (except for the great session bassist Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn who played bass just on this one track). Here we have our same band that did ‘Rhiannon’ (see vid a few months back), which was so fun to do and well received that we thought we’d continue. As before, Stevie’s part is channeled by the one & only Jen Cella, with Randy chiming in as Tom Petty (the late great, may he RIP) and the lineup augmented with Hammond B3 played by McNally Waters keyboardist Harry Waters, also a veteran of recent tours with his father (whom you may have heard of, his name’s Roger).

I tried a few guitars, including my LPs, SGs, but this AS sig ESP lemonburst just captured the right tone & sustain in this case. Original guitarist Mike Campbell (currently playing with Stevie in Fleetwood Mac) is someone not always as appreciated as he should be in guitar scenes, as his playing is not technically complicated, but it’s nonetheless brilliant. I tried to capture the spirit of his original licks and, add a little bit of my own flavor but not deviate from the original too much (what Mike C did was perfect for the song, as usual).

Enjoy the tune and for goodness sake, people (I’m not gonna tell you again): STOP DRAGGIN’ MY HEART AROUND!!!”

Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Etc. To Pay Tribute To Tom Petty At Upcoming Virtual Festival

Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Lenny Kravitz, The Killers, Post Malone, and more will be celebrating the late Tom Petty’s 70th birthday with a virtual festival on October 23. The event will stream live on Petty’s website starting at 7PM EST. Other performances will also air on Sirius XM’s Tom Petty Radio at 4:30PM EST.

The following statement was posted on tompetty.com:

“For the first time ever, the Petty estate is working alongside fans and engaging with the music community to celebrate and pay tribute to Tom Petty. In 2017, the first annual Tom Petty Birthday Bash debuted in Tom’s hometown of Gainesville, FL. Fans gathered for the free, six-hour show of all Petty tunes, performed in the legendary musician’s honor. The celebration has grown into a fully-fledged music festival featuring local as well as national acts, with fans traveling across the country to celebrate the life and legacy of Tom Petty.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s special Tom Petty Birthday Bash, honoring what would have been his 70th birthday (today), will be held virtually on Friday, October 23 with 5 hours of performances, testimonials and tributes to Tom from friends and fans including Stevie Nicks, Chris Stapleton, Post Malone, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Norah Jones, The Raconteurs, Jason Isbell, a very special performance by Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench and many more.”

Dave Grohl Guests On New Stevie Nicks Song “Show Them The Way”

Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) has premiered a new song titled “Show Them The Way.“ This track features drums from Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and a music video for it can be found below:

Nicks commented:

“The year was 2008… I was in St Charles, Illinois. It was cold, snowing~ and it was winter~ February. I was there to edit a concert film. It’s like making a record. You go to the studio everyday~ come home~ sit down with your dog – and turn on the tv.

It was the Democratic Primaries. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were fighting over who would be the candidate for President. I started watching the documentaries being aired from the late 50’s up to the present. Mostly the fight for civil rights – The dreams of John Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Bobby Kennedy and John Lewis ~ and all the hidden figures that surrounded them. I was hypnotized. This went on for two months.

One night I had a dream. A dream that was so real that I was pretty sure it had happened. It was a cinematic story. It had a beginning, a middle and an end. Every detail, every color, every smile ~ was there. I started writing the story the moment my eyes opened.

I was invited to a party~ to play piano and sing a few songs. It was a benefit. There were political people there. It felt~ really important. I was just the piano player, the voice, part of their dream.

I wrote the poem the next day~ and the music the day after that. I never recorded it until now. I felt that this was its time, its reason. I understood what it meant then and what it means now~ Please God, show them the way~ Please God, on this day. Spirits all, give them the strength. Peace can come if you really want it. I think we’re just in time to save it.

I hope that this song and its words will be seen as a prayer ~ a prayer for our country ~ a prayer for our world.
I love you always,

Stevie Nicks“
