Norma Jean Premiere “Call For The Blood” Music Video

Norma Jean have premiered a new video for their new song “Call For The Blood.” This track is from their new album “Deathrattle For Me,” which will be released on August 12.

Vocalist Cory Brandan Putman said the following:

“Accept that everything is a draft/ It helps to get it done. We banded together to make this record and to me, this song is the rallying cry. Composed by my brother, [co-producer] Matthew [Putman], this song was written around a single idea, altered heavily in post, and then mimicked by us.

The studio and post-production elements acted as an instrument. The experimentation and the process behind this track was a major point of inspiration for many other things we ended up doing throughout Death Rattle Sing For Me.

I feel like Matthew wrote this song with my voice in mind and I wanted to do something very unique over it. Dangerous rock ‘n’ roll! Blast it!”

Matthew added:

“‘CFTB’ was one of the first songs where I felt like we were establishing a personality for the album. Even though it was constructed in the studio from manipulated ideas we captured during a ‘riff vomiting’ session with Grayson [Stewart, guitars], it still has a very raw, live energy.

The samples were all chosen in a very deliberate way for how they colored the story behind the song (rebellious unity). There is nothing random about ‘CFTB’; every sound has meaning.

This is one of my all-time favorite vocal performance from Cory, where he proves once again why he’s one of the best of his generation.”

Cory also commented on the album:

“This record was really about banding together. It embodies the camaraderie of our brotherhood in Norma Jean. At the time, we needed something to do, and we wrote these songs for our own souls. The record was necessary to keep me alive in a very literal sense. It’s a deeper place.”

Norma Jean’s Cory Brandan And His Brother Launch New Project orphantwin

Norma Jean’s Cory Brandan Putman has joined forces with his brother Matthew Putman for a new project called orphantwin. The band’s debut album, “Future Classic,” will be released on June 3. Two tracks from the effort, “Deathsurf” and “Headphones Or Die,“ can be found below:

Matthew said the following about “Deathsurf”:

“‘Deathsurf‘ was the song that birthed orphantwin. Cory and I started experimenting in the studio, writing shorter, hyper-focused songs based on the music we grew up with, filtered through the lens of our current songwriting and production aesthetic. ‘Deathsurf‘ draws inspiration from bands like Angel Hair, Voivod, Burned Up Bled Dry, and Slayer.”

Cory continued:

“I had an incredibly vivid dream a few years ago. I saw a giant wave rising up over the tree line. I saw myself trying to get everyone inside before it reached us, I looked over again and I saw a much larger second wave behind the first. It covered the sky, and when it crashed, it consumed everything in its path.

orphantwin is a studio project with my brother, Matthew. We talk about everything, but especially the ways our brains process things and how our lives together are a wealth of inspiration. We wrote some songs about cataclysmic waves, and we wrote some songs about how, in hindsight, I should have surfed that shit.”

They also commented on the project as a whole:

“orphantwin at its heart is a studio project. Using the studio as an instrument allows us the freedom to take a 2-piece garage band and fill the gaps with sampling, sound design, copying, pasting, stretching audio, finding sounds we want from the space around us, and piling it on. Garage pop.”

Cory added:

“This is a brothers project. Matthew and I look alike. Our voices and mannerisms are very similar. We’re only a year apart in age, so people have always referred to us as twins. orphantwin is the idea your reflection is a twin of you in another world. It’s about brothers.”
