Monolord have released a new song titled “I’m Staying Home.“ The track can be found in digital outlets, along with a live version of “The Bastard Son” from the 2019 Freak Valley Festival. Physical copies can also be pre-ordered HERE. Thomas Jäger commented:
“A leftover track from the No Comfort session with the lyrics re-recorded to suit our current state. Stay the fuck home.”
Cellar Darling have released a new single titled “Dance.” You can stream the track below and purchase it as a limited edition picture disc HERE.
The band commented:
“Darlings, this is it. This is the reason we’ve been so quiet these past few months. This is DANCE. We have never put so much work into one piece of music before. And although we always want our music to speak for itself, we’d like to share a few words with you about the journey this song has taken us on. The story of ‘Dance’ comprises three parts:
Chapter I – Past: “As you might have guessed, ‘Dance’ originated in the sessions for our concept album ‘The Spell’. It was supposed to be another chapter of our story about a girl who falls in love with death, but the song ultimately didn’t make the cut. It wouldn’t quite leave us alone either, so about one year ago, we decided to dig it up and give it another go.”
Chapter II – Present: “As rewarding and exciting as the intense work on the concept of “The Spell’ was – from creating a storybook soundtrack to putting everything into prose — once it was completed, we were done with it. Anna was ready to let go of that story and rewrote all of the ‘DANCE’ lyrics and most of the music. This time, inspiration came from two sources: the dancing plague of 1518, which is a fascinating story in itself, and an engagement with our contemporary world: doesn’t it sometimes feel like we’re in the process of dancing ourselves to death?”
Chapter III – Future: “This song, which we share with you today for the time being only as what it is, i.e. without a flood of images, is only the first part of this extensive project. A collective of brilliant artists has interpreted ‘Dance’ visually and transformed it into their own world of images. Stay tuned for more…”
It was previously revealed that Journey were working on a new album and now it looks like we may get the effort’s first single next month. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Neal Schon said that the band are planning to release a new song in mid-February.
Schon said the following about the progress the band have made on their new album:
“It’s coming along, man. It’s really shaping up. Narada [Michael Walden, producer/drummer] and I have been working nonstop. Jonathan [Cain, keyboards] is also working from his houses in Florida and Nashville. Arnel [Pineda, vocals] is working from Manila. [Bassist] Randy Jackson is working mostly from L.A. And it’s one of those Zoom sessions and it sounds phenomenal. It sounds like we’re all playing in the room at the same time. I actually can’t wait until we do get together and start putting the show together. The new single should be coming out mid-February.”
He also added the following when asked how the group’s new lineup has impacted their sound:
“You have to hear it for yourself. It still sounds very much like Journey thanks to the songwriting, my guitar playing, and the vocals. But the rhythm section is definitely a powerhouse. Narada has been known for years, and Randy Jackson is a completely monstrous bass player. Some people may not be aware of his work, but they have credentials that go way, way back. Randy and I have always been pretty in tune, and Narada and I are in tune. And now it’s coming together. It’s got a new strut to it.
There’s nothing we really can’t play. I’ve got a track I laid down with Narada the other day. I sent it to Arnel and he was freaking out. He said, ‘This sounds like brand-new [Jimi] Hendrix or Prince. Please write more of that.’ And I was just messing around. It was just a jam we did and it turned out to be monstrous. We’re creating. We aren’t afraid to go to new places. It’s easy to stay safe and write where we have always been. We have a bit of that so we don’t lose everyone, but at the same token, this is a new chapter of Journey. I want to go where we have not gone before.”
Myrkur has released a new single titled “Dronning Ellisiv.“ The track was recorded during the sessions for her latest album “Folkesange“ and the following was said about it:
“The single, a reimagining of a song by the great Harald Foss, tells the tale of the Grand Prince Yaroslav of Novgorod and his daughter Elisiv of Kiev. Elisiv would later marry King Harald of Norway and become Queen Consort of Norway in the 1040’s.”
Primal Fear will be releasing a new five-track single titled “I Will Be Gone” on April 9. The effort will feature the updated title track, which features Tarja Turunen (Ex-Nightwish), a new song titled “Vote Of No Confidence,” and three bonus tracks, “Rising Fear,” “Leave Me Alone,” and “Second To None,” from the limited digipack edition of “Metal Commando.”
Primal Fear bassist Mat Sinner commented:
“There were three famous vocalists on our final wish list. That it was Tarja who got involved in this song is a matter of pure joy for all of us. Working together on the song and video was totally relaxed and professional — a great experience also because Tarja’s and Ralf’s [Scheepers] voices go together incredibly well. Now, we can expand the ‘Metal Commando’ saga with a unique chapter. We’re all really proud of this single.”
“I was very happy to receive the invitation to take part in Primal Fear’s beautiful song ‘I Will Be Gone’. We started our careers nearly at the same time many years ago, and finally got a chance to work together. I love the song and personally it helped me to stay connected and rock again, even if at the studio this time. I really hope that people will like this collaboration and that it will bring them joy especially during these difficult times we are living through at the moment.”
The single will be available on multi-colored vinyl, shaped vinyl, CD digipack, and digitally.
Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) have launched a new project called Nighttime Boogie Association. The duo have released a deluxe single featuring two tracks titled “Long In The Tooth” and “The Path We’re On.“ A press release offered some more information on those songs:
“‘Long In The Tooth‘ was written by Taylor Hawkins (lyrics) and Matt Cameron (music) and features Cameron on guitar, bass, and drum machine and Hawkins on lead vocal, drum fills, percussion, and keyboards. Matt Cameron wrote the music and lyrics for ‘The Path We’re On‘ and also plays drums, guitar and vocals. Taylor Hawkins performs the drum intro, as well as lead vocals and keyboards. The song also features Buzz Osborne on guitar and Steven McDonald on bass and from ‘fuzz-rock overlords,’ The Melvins.”
Helloween’s “Pumpkins United” lineup, Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen, Andi Deris, Michael Weikath, Sascha Gerstner, Markus Grosskopf, and Daniel Löble, will be releasing a new single titled “Skyfall” on April 2. Pre-orders for that track can be found HERE. The band commented:
“The epic 12 minute song, written by Kai Hansen, will be released in two versions: The A-side features the 7 minute single edit and the B-side explodes with a 12 minute alternative version of the album track with a new mix and a different singer allocation – available only on this very single! The second edition will offer “INDESTRUCTIBLE” as the B-side, another precursor from the album. Limited availability, on vinyl only with premium packaging. The upcoming album will follow in summer 2021.”
