Elton John Says Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” Is “One Of The Best Songs Ever Written”

During Metallica and Miley Cyrus’ recent appearance on “The Howard Stern Show”, the group were joined by Elton John via video link. John was brought on the program to discuss his guest spot on Cyrus’ cover of “Nothing Else Matters”, which is featured on the new “Black Album” tribute record “The Metallica Blacklist.” John says it was a “no-brainer” to contribute to the track, while also adding:

“This is one of the best songs ever written, to me. It’s a song that never gets old. Playing on this track I just couldn’t wait because the chord structure, the melodies, the time changes — it’s got drama written all over it.”

Notably, John’s kind words actually moved Metallica frontman James Hetfield to tears.

Elton John Says He Recently Did “Something” With Metallica

During an episode of his Apple Music 1 show “Rocket Hour,” Elton John revealed that he recently did “something” with Metallica. He said the following about that:

“I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period, I’ve been working with [the virtual band] Gorillaz and people like that. I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people.”

It is unknown what John was referring to, but it’s worth noting that Miley Cyrus previously said that the legendary musician will be contributing piano to “Nothing Else Matters” on her Metallica covers album.
