Iggy Pop Premieres New Song “Dirty Little Virus”

Iggy Pop has premiered a new song titled “Dirty Little Virus.” The track was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and the frontman had the following to say about it:

“I was moved to write a direct lyric, not something too emotional or deep — more like journalism. Who, what, when, where. I left out the ‘why,’ because that gets too complex, but I put in how I felt about it. It was a stopper for me. It’s been the big thing happening in my life, and everybody else’s, I reckon, for almost a year now. If there was still a Man Of The Year, it would be the virus. So, I wrote the lyric.”

Iggy Pop Premieres “We Are The People” Video

Iggy Pop has premiered a new video for “We Are The People.” This news comes after he recently performed the track with Laurie Anderson at the Tibet House benefit in New York. The song is an interpretation of a poem written by Lou Reed and it appears on Pop’s latest album “Free.” A test vinyl pressing of that record will be released on March 7 and it will be limited to 340 copies. This version includes cover art and a creative collaboration with Maurizio Cattelan, as well as a 7″ featuring an a cappella rendition of “Brahms Lullaby” and “Epistle to Tromba.” On top of that, Pop and Cattelan will also sign copies of it at Perrotin in New York on March 7.

Iggy Pop To Release New Album “Free” In September

Iggy Pop has announced that his new album “Free” will be released on September 6. You can stream the effort’s title track below:

Pop commented:

“This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice…

By the end of the tours following ‘Post Pop Depression’, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long. But I also felt drained. And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free. I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need — not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”

“Free” Track Listing:

01. “Free”
02. “Loves Missing”
03. “Sonali”
04. “James Bond”
05. “Dirty Sanchez”
06. “Glow In The Dark”
07. “Page”
08. “We Are The People”
09. “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”
10. “The Dawn”
