Iggy Pop Claims He Was Once Approached About Joining AC/DC

During a recent interview with The New York Times, Iggy Pop claimed that he once received an offer to join AC/DC. The frontman said the following about that:

“They had a manager many years ago, when I hadn’t reformed The Stooges, I hadn’t moved to England. And this guy said, ‘Are you interested in joining AC/DC?’ They were looking for a singer. I listened to their record. I thought, I can’t fit that bill. I wasn’t, like, ‘Ugh, I don’t like them.’ It was quite well made. They do careful work, but I’m not what they needed.”

Iggy Pop Signs With Gold Tooth Records

Iggy Pop has signed a new deal with Gold Tooth Records, the label founded by producer Andrew Watt (Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne). This news comes on the heels of the new partnership between Gold Tooth and Atlantic Records.

Pop commented:

“I’m the guy with no shirt who rocks. Andrew and Gold Tooth get that, and we made a record together the old-fashioned way. The players are guys I’ve known since they were kids and the music will beat the shit out of you. Have a great day.”

Watt continued:

“Iggy Pop is a fucking icon. A true original. The guy invented the stage dive. I still can’t believe he let me make a record with him. I am honored. It doesn’t get cooler. This album was created to be played as loud as your stereo will go. Turn it up and hold on.”

Craig Kallman, CEO of Atlantic Records, added:

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Andrew and Gold Tooth into the Atlantic family. As a brilliant producer and stellar musician, Andrew has the gift of elevating every project into a work of art. And, of course, we’re over the moon to have the legendary and phenomenal Iggy Pop as our first joint signing. Iggy’s groundbreaking work forever changed the rock landscape, and he continues to make boundary-crashing music. This also marks his return to the Warner family, more than 50 years after he made his recording debut with The Stooges on our sister label Elektra. Iggy’s never stopped evolving, and he’s made a fantastic album that we can’t wait for the world to hear.”

The first single from Pop’s upcoming album, “Frenzy,” will be released on October 28.

There’s a tremendous amount of diversity represented throughout, and I couldn’t be more excited to announce the record with Iggy’s version of ‘Kick Me,’ which not only serves as a reinvention of the song vocally, but instrumentally as well. This record became such an enjoyment of experimentation and relinquishing control of my own work in a way that I’ve never done before.”

ONI Share Music Video For New Song “Secrets” Featuring Iggy Pop & Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe

ONI have premiered a new video for their new song “Secrets.” The track, which features Iggy Pop and Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe, will appear on the band’s new album “Loathing Light,” which is set to be released on June 17.

Jake Oni said the following about working with Iggy Pop:

“He came down, we had some food and just chilled. And then he did his thing all over the song. He asked me for ideas about how to approach it, which was just crazy and cool. It all worked so well and came out sick.”

Randy Blythe added:

“It was awesome to work with Jake again, and of course the usual suspects, my compatriots Mark Morton and Josh Wilbur – always a good time. But to be on a track and film a video with one of my biggest influences as a frontman, the OG godfather of punk and living legend Iggy Pop? Completely priceless.”

Oni also commented on the new album:

“The songs are very much written from the first person, with a lot of ‘I’ and ‘me’ in the lyrics as opposed to ‘us’ or ‘you’. The music encompasses many different vibes, both light and dark. I really challenged myself to address difficult things I’ve gone through over the years.

Mark [Morton] helped me through a lot of stuff with mental health and addiction, things he’s gone through himself. He’s definitely been a big support for me. I worked with him before in a full band, but this time, it was just he and I, writing an entire album together, which was killer.

I don’t want anyone in there besides Mark and Josh [Wilbur] when I’m recording vocals. They get what I can do. They know my limitations and how to utilize my talents like nobody else really can fully.”

“Loathing Light” Track Listing:

01. “The Lie”
02. “Against My Sins”
03. “Secrets” (feat. Iggy Pop & Randy Blythe)
04. “Awaken”
05. “War Ender” (feat. City Morgue)
06. “Heart To Stone”
07. “Battery Tomb”
08. “Sequence Static”
09. “Gasoline”
10. “Golden”
