Iggy Pop Postpones Two European Shows

Iggy Pop has postponed his shows in Mantova, Italy and Vienna, Austria due to vocal issues. The concerts have been rescheduled for later this year.

The following statement was issued about the Italy show:

“Iggy is forced to postpone his show in Mantova due to a problem with his voice. The new date is August 30th at the Esedra of Palazzo Te in Mantova and tickets will be still valid for the new date. More details to follow.

Here’s a message from Iggy:

‘If you were there, you know I croaked my way through my last show in Greece and my voice is still recovering.
I must postpone my next show in Mantova, Italy July 05.

I have not taken this decision lightly. I love my fans.

But I must protect my voice.

I’m so sorry but, I’ll come back and make it up to you.'”

A separate statement was issued about the Austria show:

“Iggy’s continued voice problem has forced the postponement of his show at the Vienna Konserthus on Thu July 07. New date announced is September 02 2022. Tickets are still valid and do not need to be exchanged. You also have the option of printing out your tickets with the new date from your personal ticket portal or showing them directly on your smartphone at the admission control.”

Elfman commented:

“At the onset of ‘Bigger. Messier.‘ I asked the same thing of every artist: ‘express me through your own eyes.’ Not only was I surprised at the artists that wanted to participate, but completely blown away by what everyone contributed. There’s a tremendous amount of diversity represented throughout, and I couldn’t be more excited to announce the record with Iggy’s version of ‘Kick Me,’ which not only serves as a reinvention of the song vocally, but instrumentally as well. This record became such an enjoyment of experimentation and relinquishing control of my own work in a way that I’ve never done before.”

ONI Share Music Video For New Song “Secrets” Featuring Iggy Pop & Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe

ONI have premiered a new video for their new song “Secrets.” The track, which features Iggy Pop and Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe, will appear on the band’s new album “Loathing Light,” which is set to be released on June 17.

Jake Oni said the following about working with Iggy Pop:

“He came down, we had some food and just chilled. And then he did his thing all over the song. He asked me for ideas about how to approach it, which was just crazy and cool. It all worked so well and came out sick.”

Randy Blythe added:

“It was awesome to work with Jake again, and of course the usual suspects, my compatriots Mark Morton and Josh Wilbur – always a good time. But to be on a track and film a video with one of my biggest influences as a frontman, the OG godfather of punk and living legend Iggy Pop? Completely priceless.”

Oni also commented on the new album:

“The songs are very much written from the first person, with a lot of ‘I’ and ‘me’ in the lyrics as opposed to ‘us’ or ‘you’. The music encompasses many different vibes, both light and dark. I really challenged myself to address difficult things I’ve gone through over the years.

Mark [Morton] helped me through a lot of stuff with mental health and addiction, things he’s gone through himself. He’s definitely been a big support for me. I worked with him before in a full band, but this time, it was just he and I, writing an entire album together, which was killer.

I don’t want anyone in there besides Mark and Josh [Wilbur] when I’m recording vocals. They get what I can do. They know my limitations and how to utilize my talents like nobody else really can fully.”

“Loathing Light” Track Listing:

01. “The Lie”
02. “Against My Sins”
03. “Secrets” (feat. Iggy Pop & Randy Blythe)
04. “Awaken”
05. “War Ender” (feat. City Morgue)
06. “Heart To Stone”
07. “Battery Tomb”
08. “Sequence Static”
09. “Gasoline”
10. “Golden”

Iggy Pop To Receive Polar Music Prize

Iggy Pop is set to receive this year’s Polar Music Prize. The ceremony will take place in Stockholm, Sweden on May 24.

Pop commented:

“I was aware of the very fine range of people that have gotten the Polar Music Prize. Patti Smith and Steve Reich have been huge for me forever, I love a lot of what he does, and so many others, so it’s a nice step for me. I respect it and I’m honored by it. I’m looking forward to coming to Stockholm in May to receive the Polar Music Prize.”

The Polar Music Prize award committee added:

“With his era-defining group THE STOOGES, Iggy Pop created furious rock music by blending together blues and free jazz influences with the roar of the Michigan automotive industry. With his courage, initiative and raw power, Iggy Pop paved the way for punk and post-punk. Groups like the SEX PISTOLS, RAMONES, BLONDIE, SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, JOY DIVISION and Nick Cave all followed in his footsteps. As a solo artist, Iggy Pop has never slowed down, and has instead pushed this art form forwards for half a century. Iggy Pop is ‘the chairman of the bored’ who portrays alienation in poetic language. A wholly unique artist who personifies and embodies what rock music is about.”

Måneskin Release New Version Of “I Wanna Be Your Slave” Featuring Iggy Pop

Måneskin have joined forces with Iggy Pop for a new version of their song “I Wanna Be Your Slave.” You can check that out below. The original version of the track appears on the band’s latest album “Teatro D’ira: Vol I.” The group commented on the new version of the song:

“It was such an honor that Iggy loved our music and wanted to work with us. It was touching seeing him sing ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ live in front of us. It was very powerful to see such a big artist being so open and friendly. We all grew up listening to his music and he inspired us to start up a band. It’s still unbelievable for us that we had the chance to get to know him and make music together.”

Iggy Pop Premieres New Song “Dirty Little Virus”

Iggy Pop has premiered a new song titled “Dirty Little Virus.” The track was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and the frontman had the following to say about it:

“I was moved to write a direct lyric, not something too emotional or deep — more like journalism. Who, what, when, where. I left out the ‘why,’ because that gets too complex, but I put in how I felt about it. It was a stopper for me. It’s been the big thing happening in my life, and everybody else’s, I reckon, for almost a year now. If there was still a Man Of The Year, it would be the virus. So, I wrote the lyric.”
