Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) Reportedly Planning To Release New “Desert Sessions” Volumes In October

According to The New York Times, Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) is planning to release Volumes 11 & 12 of his “Desert Sessions” series in October. The releases will reportedly feature Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Les Claypool (Primus), Carla Azar (Jack White), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), etc. Some teaser images have also been shared on Instagram and desertsessions.com.

Pearl Jam Joined Onstage By Jack White At Portugal’s NOS Alive Festival

During Pearl Jam’s encore at Portugal’s NOS Alive festival last night (July 14), the band were joined onstage by Jack White. You can see footage of them playing a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” below. It’s also worth noting that Pearl Jam mixed The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” into “Porch” earlier in the encore as well.

The lineup has been revealed for the 2018 Shaky Knees festival. The event will take place on May 4-6 at Central Park in Atlanta, GA, and it will include: Queens Of The Stone Age, Circa Survive, Tenacious D, Andrew W.K., Rival Sons, Greta Van Fleet, Jack White, The Distillers, Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low, The Menzingers, and more. Isaiah “Ikey” Owens Dead At 38

Jack White’s current keyboardist, Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, who has also played with The Mars Volta, and guested on albums from Mastodon, Sublime etc., has passed away. He was found in a Puebla, Mexico hotel room on Tuesday morning (Oct. 14). It has been reported that drugs and alcohol were present in the room.

UPDATE: Owens’ death has now been confirmed, to have been caused by a heart attack. Thirdman Records issued the following statement:

“The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14th at approximately 4 am. The only drugs found in his room were a small amount of marijuana.
Ikey, born Isaiah Randolph Owens was a GRAMMY award winning artist best known for his work with Jack White, the Mars Volta, De Facto and Free Moral Agents, among others. He was a beloved member of the music community as well as his hometown of Long Beach, CA.”

 

Thirdman Records originally issued this statement after the death:

“It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects.

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled.

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.”
