DIEHUMANE (Ex-Exodus, Ex-Type O Negative) To Release Debut Album “The Grotesque” In Early 2023

DIEHUMANE, the new project featuring Rick Hunolt (ex-Exodus), Sal Abruscato (A Pale Horse Named Death, ex-Type O Negative), Garret West, Joshua Vargas, and Greg Hilligiest Jr., are planning to release their debut album, “The Grotesque,” early next year. The effort will be released in partnership with producer Ulrich Wild’s WURMgroup and DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara’s The Oracle Management.

Fafara said the following:

“We here at Oracle Management are very proud to announce that DIEHUMANE has chosen to allow us to represent them. The music belongs in its own category being artistic, heavy, and unique in its own right. There’s seasoned musicians at the helm and one of the best vocalists I’ve heard in many years. Here’s to the future!”

Each band member also commented:

Hunolt:

“To be honest, being in a band wasn’t even on my mind at the time a dear friend called me and said, ‘Hey, I know these guys looking for a guitar player.’ He sent me some raw tracks, and I listened for about a month before I replied, and it was the music that I was looking for. It gave me the ability to express myself musically and, even more important, was radically different than anything I have ever played. Music needs ‘different’ in order to evolve. [There’s] so much talent in this band, and I can’t wait for you to experience DIEHUMANE.”

Abruscato:

“I am looking forward to the release of this very different and unique album I had the pleasure writing/performing the drum tracks for. It’s different from what I have done in the past and it’s been fantastic to be a part of it with everyone in the band, Ulrich Wild/WURMgroup and The Oracle Management. I feel folks will be blown away.”

West:

“I grew up listening to Sal and Rick. Then Dez took us into his flock with The Oracle and Ulrich (a powerhouse responsible for many of my favorite records) made it his mission to make us sound pristine. What we have here is something special. I just hope people find it as special as we do.”

Hilligiest:

“I want to thank Ulrich and Dez both for taking interest in us and helping us get it out there. I’m just happy to finally get it out to people’s ears. We’ve been hearing this album in many different forms for two years now, it’s time to let everybody else in the world hear it as it is meant to be heard. I hope you all like it as much as we do.”

Vargas:

“Typically the formation of a project and subsequent creation of an album marks the beginning of something, whereas this one starts with the end, and actually ends with the beginning of something. All of these songs began as a way of dealing with complete and total isolation in 2020 and the loss of what life was before that year, and ends marking the beginning of something awesome, and the album sounds like exactly that. Recording began in a dingy townhome in Galveston, Texas and ended in fucking Hollywood. The musical journey we all took on this album is something I wouldn’t trade for world. Big thanks to Ulrich Wild (WURMgroup) and Dez Fafara (The Oracle Management) for going on this crazy journey with us. I’m so happy with this album that I don’t even care if anyone hates it.”

Kenny Hickey commented:

“The first casualty of this album was the record company – which promptly went under after its release. Soon after, Peter passed, and then even the rehearsal studio it was written and developed in was burnt to the ground by Hurricane Sandy. As the black cloud continued its relentless path over Type O, ‘Dead Again‘ appeared and disappeared from the streaming platforms for years. Now that the storm has passed we have some slight hope of establishing a small illusion of permanence with this final release of ‘Dead Again‘. We are sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused you.”

DIEHUMANE (Ex-Exodus, Ex-Type O Negative) Mixing New Album

DIEHUMANE, the new project featuring Rick Hunolt (ex-Exodus), Sal Abruscato (A Pale Horse Named Death, ex-Type O Negative), Garret West, Joshua Vargas, and Greg Hilligiest Jr., have finished recording their new album. The effort is currently being mixed by Ulrich Wild.

Vargas commented:

“As of today, the DIEHUMANE album has finished recording. Ten originals and a 10 minute cover. The album is also over halfway mixed because Ulrich Wild is an absolute beast and we only have a few more to mix, then mastering.

I’m super proud of this album. It’s definitely it’s own thing and only sounds like itself, which was always the most important goal and what made it worth doing in the first place. I’m pretty sure it won’t be what some people are expecting, and it’s definitely not gonna be some people’s cup of tea, and that’s perfectly fine. What no one will ever be able to say about it is that we were following others or trying to fit into a certain niche.

And, as a guy who has sat with these songs for over a year, and since I know y’all are interested, I’ll say it now:

Rick Hunolt’s guitar work on this is going to knock people flat. Every solo on here is a classic. There is the shit-ripping solos that he is known for, but then there’s a bluesy and jazzy side of his playing that I’m super excited to see people discover.

As well, Sal’s drumming on this literally sounds like somebody awakened a sleeping giant. There’s a song on here that we nicknamed ‘The Bruiser’ that would be just as heavy, dynamic, and intense if you stripped all of the other music off and just left the drums.

To nutshell it, if you’ve read this and are still interested, you’ll love it and it’ll be worth the wait. Our first video shoots in a few weeks, so it’s not much further now.”

Former Exodus And Type O Negative Members Announce New Project DIEHUMANE

Rick Hunolt (ex-Exodus), Sal Abruscato (A Pale Horse Named Death, ex-Type O Negative), Garret West, Joshua Vargas, and Greg Hilligiest Jr. have joined forces for a new project called DIEHUMANE. Hunolt commented:

“Ok so it’s time to announce my new band DIEHUMANE. Been in the studio finishing up vocals and odds and ends with the one and only producer Ulrich Wild. Not sure what genre it falls under so I’m not going to put a label on it as of yet, I will let you guys do that when the time comes haha. I will say that the music is absolutely epic, I absolutely love everything about it and am confident you guys will to. So the members are as follows. We have on vocals Garret West, on bass Josh Vargas, on drums the doom lord Sal Abruscato from Type O Negative and Life Of Agony and Greg Hilligiest Jr. on keyboards. I just want to say that without you guys there is no anything so thanks a bunch for following. Our Facebook just went live today so hit us up at our Facebook and Instagram. You guys are going to love this I know it”.

Ex-Type O Negative Drummer Johnny Kelly On Hypothetical Peter Steele Tribute Concert: “Maybe Somewhere Down The Road There May Be Something”

During a recent appearance on the “Loaded Radio” podcast, ex-Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly was asked about the possibility of a tribute show for the band’s late frontman Peter Steele. He responded by saying that there might be some sort of tribute “somewhere down the road.”

Kelly said the following:

“Coffee talk. There was never any serious consideration, like, should we do something? Is there even a point of doing it? Or also, is it just a blatant cash grab? So all these things go through your head.

People celebrate [Peter] all the time. They do it daily. I see it online all the time and the impact that he had.

Maybe somewhere down the road there may be something that’s… I don’t know. But I know that for me, it would have to include Kenny [Hickey, guitar] and Josh [Silver, keyboards] as well. Anything that we do, it would have to be the three of us. And there’s no way you’re getting Josh to do anything like that. [Laughs]”

He continued when asked who would sing:

“I don’t know. I’d want a girl to do it. I’d want a female vocalist — like Ann Wilson [HEART] or something like that. [Laughs] But even so, that’s the first thing. When you think about doing some kind of tribute show, you’re just gonna get all these people… Yes, Peter was very highly regarded by our peers and stuff like that, and you’ll just get a bunch of dudes up there just trying to sound like Peter. And you can’t do that. And it’s, like, all right, so what’s the most remote thing from Peter? You’d have to do something completely abstract. And I would say get a female vocalist. I think Peter would get a kick out of… He would get off on seeing a girl sing his songs, seeing a female sing them. And it would really stress the point of doing something as a tribute instead of trying to recreate something.”

Psychosexual (Ex-Five Finger Death Punch) Release New Covers EP “Songs To Stalk You By”

Psychosexual, the band fronted by ex-Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer, have released a new covers EP titled “Songs To Stalk You By.“ The effort includes the group’s takes on KISS’ “Watchin’ You,” Stone Temple Pilots’ “Sex Type Thing,” Queensrÿche’s “Gonna Get Close To You,” Type O Negative’s “Love You To Death,” David Bowie’s “Love You Till Tuesday,” and The Police’s “Every Breath You Take.” Notably, ex-Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook guests on “Watchin’ You” and “Gonna Get Close To You.” Spencer commented:

“This is a fun little compilation of bands I love. There is definitely a tongue-in-cheek creepiness to the themes that tie the songs together, and that’s what made them so much fun to record. The fact that stalking and social distancing go hand-in-hand is just a happy coincidence.”
