Ex-Machine Head, Ex-Dream Theater, Etc. Members Share Quarantine Cover Of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Revelation (Mother Earth)”

Phil Demmel (Vio-lence, ex-Machine Head, etc.), Dino Jelusick (Trans–Siberian Orchestra, etc.), Rudy Sarzo (ex-Quiet Riot, etc.) Mike Portnoy (Sons Of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater, etc.), Marta Demmel (Bleeding Through), and Julie Bélanger Roy (Gone In April) have joined forces for a quarantine cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Revelation (Mother Earth).” You can check that out below:

Phil Demmel commented:

“This series wouldn’t be complete without this song included. It’s my favorite [Randy Rhoads]-era Ozzy song/solo so when Mike told me it was one of 3 songs on his ‘to do’ list, it was time to tackle this song. Dino and I had been waiting for a song to do with MP and since the BPMD record had come out and I wanted to wait a bit before doing another with him.

This needs to be epic and although having Marta handle the piano/synth bells/vocoder parts was going to be legit, I wanted something filling more space and immediately asked Julie (who killed it on ‘Falling’ for us) to add as much as she wanted and see what she would come up with. Having these 2 on this song with their ideas and performance makes it incredible.

We needed a Bass player and I shot for the moon. Rudy is the most professional, courteous, polite, capable and compassionate musician I’ve worked with and as he said ‘of course, I’d be honored’ I knew it was going to be special, in many ways.

It’s no secret Randy is my favorite musician. His passion for not only music but also for performing has struck something with me and I’m paying tribute in this way to maybe inspire others to follow his life’s work.

With some of my earlier Jams I recorded single/pass tracks, but with this one I wanted it to respect it as he would. 2 rhythm, 2 6-string acoustic, 2 solo, 1 12-string and 1 nylon-string tracks later, I hope you all enjoy what the 6 of us accomplished.

RIP RR”

Ex-Machine Head, Sons Of Apollo, Etc. Members Cover Van Halen’s “Loss Of Control”

Phil Demmel (Vio-lence, ex-Machine Head), Jeff Scott Soto (Sons Of Apollo, etc.), Billy Sheehan (Sons Of Apollo, etc.), and Dave McClain (Sacred Reich, ex-Machine Head) have joined forces for a quarantine cover of Van Halen’s “Loss Of Control.” You can check that out below:

Demmel commented:

“This a song Dave and I have been jamming for awhile. It had to be covered.

While I was touring with Nonpoint last year, my bud Jeff came to a show and we talked about our VH worship. He went on to show me his ‘tri-tone’ DLR screams that pretty much NO ONE can match. I’ve been waiting for the perfect tune to come along to ask him to do and this was perfect!

I was going to reach for the moon and ask him to hit up his band-mate Billy to join us but he beat me to the punch and MADE IT HAPPEN. McClain puts on a tight shirt/Alex VH shades and kills this.

If you haven’t seen DLR’s 1983 US Festival footage, check it out to get our opening scene Iced Tea reference.

Such an honor to be joined by these guys to jam on a kick-ass song by some of our heroes of Rock.”

– Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
– Eddie Ojeda (ex-Twisted Sister)

– Dave Alvin (White Trash)
– Todd Kerns (Slash Feat. Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators)
– Andy Freeman (Last In Line)
– Jacob Bunton (Mick Mars)
– Dead By Wednesday

Ellefson said the following:

“Before any of us started writing our own songs, we all began playing cover songs by our heroes during our formative years as musicians. So, it’s fun to go back in time and revisit those songs which helped us to become the artists we are today, especially when, ironically, many of those artists have now become peers and friends.

During the process of recording some covers for B-Sides and bonus tracks for the upcoming Ellefson solo LP, Thom and I just said, ‘This is a blast, let’s just do a whole album of covers!’ Literally, within 2 weeks, we had the songs recorded, and began calling our friends to join us, many of whom we had just performed with on the MEGA-Cruise back in October. From there, the album just fell into place.”

“A lot of our buddies have been playing covers and quarantine jams on the Internet during the pandemic, so this is really just an extension of that, but we took it the next level and actually recorded a full studio album.

We’ve been working remotely anyway, as we’re all over the Globe, so it was easy to incorporate some guests jumping in with some outstanding performances of their own. It’s been a really fun nod to making great music with our friends, who are kick-ass players, and many legends in their own right, which is the whole reason we got into this in the first place!”

Hazaert added:

“It’s all songs and artists that really mutually influenced both myself and David, especially a lot of early ‘metal’ and harder classic rock. Some stuff I picked, some stuff he picked, but for the most part is was all artists that we both loved. What’s funny, as there’s a bit of an age gap, we were sometimes more influenced by different eras of the same bands. But it was really him saying, ‘Let’s do this song,’ and me saying, ‘Yes!!! And let’s do this song.’ And before we knew it, we had over 15 songs. And it’s a lot of album tracks, deep cuts, early tracks, stuff people might not expect, which was what was so fun.”

“It was also great that we were able to work in a lot of nods to David’s history, getting Chuck Behler to play with us, bringing in original Megadeth guitarist Greg Handevidt to play on ‘Love Me Like A Reptile’, a song they used to play in cover bands together before they moved to L.A. (which we wrote about in ‘More Life With Deth’), and Randy Burns is going to mix a track or two. As a singer, these are literally bands I’ve listened to, and covered all my life, and for me, getting to play with Eddie Ojeda, the Tesla guys, Charlie Benante, Jason McMaster, Mark Slaughter, etc, and sing these songs that mean so much to me. I mean, literally, the entire record is my bucket list of people I’d love to play with, and some of my favorite bands. So, it’s truly an honor to put together something so fun, and really as effortless as this was. It truly is a love letter to rock n’ roll, an homage to what made us, musically, who we are today.”
