Li commented:

“I’ve been a huge fan of Jason Becker since I was young, and it’s one of the biggest honors of my life to be able to help organize this tribute and raise money for him. I still have a Jason Becker poster in my studio in London. It’s been very inspiring to see everyone coming together to celebrate Jason.”

Becker added:

“I am so grateful for all the love and support everyone has given to me and my family. As far as selling my guitars being sad, and that I shouldn’t have to do it, I just want you to know that isn’t how I feel. It makes me happy to see others playing my music. I feel good about passing on my guitars, thinking they mean something to others. I can’t play them now, but other folks can. That’s a good thing. And, I want myself and my family not to have to worry about money, if possible. Thank you for all the love, I send it right back to you.”

Alice Cooper, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Etc. To Judge Upcoming Music Competition Show “No Cover”

Alice Cooper, Bishop Briggs, Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), and Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) will be serving as judges on Hit Parader’s new show “No Cover.” That program will find bands playing original music for a chance to win “a six-figure recording contract with Sumerian Records, booking agency representation from UTA, management from the Shelter Music Group, high-profile festival slot(s) via Danny Wimmer Presents, studio time at Nightbird Recording Studios, new gear from Gibson, brand endorsements, licensing opportunities and more.”

The first season of “No Cover” will be filmed at the Troubadour and The Sunset Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood, CA and artists that wish to participate can apply via nocovershow.com. However, they will be required to pay a fee that ranges from $99 to $499. The following was said about that:

“The above options are a chance of a lifetime and requires a fee, no different than submitting to SXSW or other music/film competitions. These events take a lot of personnel and resources.”

A press release continued:

“Entries are open to the general public and musicians will submit their original songs, photos and videos for the show’s producers to select from. Once bands are selected, our celebrity judges will grade these artists on three key factors: originality, presence and songcraft.”

All of the judges also commented:

Alice Cooper:

“I can’t wait for ‘No Cover‘. To me, a band really isn’t a band unless they are writing their own material, and if you know anything about me you know that I have a very high standard for not only the songs but also the performance. I’m looking for the band who has it all – the one who can not only write it and play it, but perform it and make me BELIEVE it.”

Bishop Briggs:

“I am beyond excited to be a judge on ‘No Cover‘! Songwriting is such a therapeutic outlet for me to express myself so I cannot wait to dig deep and learn more about each person who gets on that stage.”

Gavin Rossdale:

“I’m thrilled to be part of ‘No Cover‘ – what a talented panel of artists to be collaborating with We’ve seen the shows singing the hits -finally the chance to find a real band with their own sound and their own vision. I hope we catapult some great artists into the spotlight.”

Lzzy Hale:

“I’m beyond excited to join my friends, peers and fellow rockers as a judge for Hit Parader’s music competition TV show ‘No Cover‘. I hope that my passion and experience will help to inspire and encourage these young bands to carve out their own path in this world.”

Tosin Abasi:

“I’m really looking forward to being on this incredible panel of judges. It’s the first time I’ve seen a show like this that actually connects with the music I’m into. This is going to be rad!”

Animals As Leaders Re-Sign With Sumerian Records, Tosin Abasi Revealed As “Air Shredder” For “Bill & Ted Face The Music”

Animals As Leaders have re-signed with Sumerian Records and are currently working on a new album. With this news, the band have also revealed that guitarist Tosin Abasi’s riffs will be featured throughout “Bill & Ted Face The Music” as part of the “air guitar” moments. That film will be released on August 28.

Guitarist Javier Reyes said the following about re-signing with Sumerian Records:

“We are happy to announce that Animals As Leaders has re-signed to Sumerian Records. We have known the folks at Sumerian for years on both a personal and professional level and it honestly feels great to continue our journey together. Sumerian has been an integral part in the growth of Animals As Leaders, even before we ever signed to Sumerian. We look forward to working together with Sumerian for the next few years to continue growing our brands and legacies.”

Abasi continued:

“I’ve seen the birth and ascension of Sumerian Records to one of the most important labels in modern metal and beyond. Animals as Leaders is stoked to be continuing our journey with them.”

Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen also commented:

“I have known Tosin and Javier longer than anyone else in the music business. We came up together as kids in DC figuring it out with the most DIY, take no prisoners approach we could. They have both played big parts in my life and career. I can honestly say my path could have ended up very differently had I not become so close with them when we were rookies.

I am honored to continue our relationship on an artist/label level and couldn’t be more proud to have Animals As Leaders on the Sumerian roster. They are one of the most influential groups of our generation in this world of music. As for Matt G, he is a true G. As for his alter ego Dirty D, I am not at liberty to comment.”

As for the “Bill & Ted” news, Abasi added:

“I’m thrilled to be part of the ‘Bill & Ted’ universe. Most excellent!”

Jonathan Leahy, music supervisor for “Bill & Ted Face The Music,” also issued a statement:

“Getting the right guitarist to handle Bill and Ted’s air-shredding was one of my top priorities from the very beginning. The director asked me, ‘What does shredding sound like in 2020?’ and my answer was, ‘It sounds like Tosin Abasi.’ Tosin’s virtuosity is mind-blowing and he leads the vanguard of modern players who push the limits of what’s capable on electric guitar. Everything about his approach, from the compositions to the techniques to the physical instrument itself, seems like it arrived via time machine from the future.”

“Bill & Ted Face The Music” director Dean Parisot added:

“When Jonathan Leahy suggested Tosin Abasi for ‘Bill & Ted’, I have to admit my first response was, ‘Are you kidding? Absolutely! But will he even do it?’ Miraculously, he did, and as expected, he blew us all away! Absolutely brilliant virtuosity and musicianship, an artist of the highest caliber, and a very nice man. I still can’t believe he did it. So so grateful he did.”

Notably, Animals As Leaders will also appear on the “Bill & Ted Face The Music” soundtrack as guests on a new Wyld Stallions song.
