Skindred Premiere “Struggle” Lyric Video

Skindred have premiered a lyric video for a previously unreleased track titled “Struggle.“ That song will be available as a bonus track on the upcoming reissue of “Roots Rock Riot,“ which will be available on April 23. Drummer Arya Goggin commented:

“The song ‘Struggle‘, to me at least conveys a message of hope when your in the battle for love. We have all been there and sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. ‘Struggle‘ is about keeping on with the fight as it will be worth it in the end. Life is sometimes a struggle and this year it has really highlighted that. To me it’s as important today as it was when we wrote it over 15 years ago. I’m so pleased it’s getting the chance to be heard and hopefully people will draw a positive message from it.”

Skindred Sign Worldwide Deal With Earache Records

Skindred have officially signed a new worldwide deal with Earache Records. As part of an effort to raise awareness for struggling UK venues amid the coronavirus pandemic, members of the band signed their contracts in various locations, including Benji Webbe, who was at Le Pub in Newport, Dan Pugsley, who was at The Louisiana in Bristol, Arya Goggin, who was at The Black Heart in London, and Mikey Fry, who was at Green Door Store in Brighton.

Goggin commented:

“We are so excited to announce that we are signing a worldwide deal with Earache Records. I have been a fan of the label since I started listening to heavy music. Their independent attitude and willingness to push the boundaries are something we can identify with in Skindred. It was great to ink the deal at The Black Heart in Camden and shine a light on all the struggling independent music venues too. The Music Venue Trust is something that we feel passionately about and we want these venues to thrive and be part of the future of British Music as well as being part of its history.”

Earache Records founder Digby Pearson added:

“We could not be more thrilled to be signing Skindred. They are such a truly unique and much-loved band. We have all been huge fans of them since Day 1 and have followed Benji’s career since the very beginning so to have Skindred sign to Earache is something that we are all extremely excited by. We are delighted to welcome Benji back to the Earache family along with his bandmates Arya, Mikey and Dan and look forward to working with them for many albums to come.”

Skindred Premiere “It’s A Crime” Lyric Video

Skindred have premiered a lyric video for their song “It’s A Crime.“ That track was previously released as part of the Japanese edition of “Roots Rock Riot“ and it will also be featured on the upcoming reissue of the album. The re-release will be available on April 23 and it will also come with another bonus track titled “Struggle.“

Benji Webbe commented:

“I live in a neighbourhood (Newport, Wales) where back in the day, a lot of people were working hard and getting ripped off in life and then theres other ones that who are just hustling and selling this and selling that and it’s just a crime that hardworking people don’t get what the thieves/criminals get.”

Arya Goggin added:

“‘It’s A Crime‘ was written in 2006 in our basement studio below St Joseph’s Boxing club in Newport. It’s where all the writing for RRR took place. The only reason it didn’t make the album was because of how the album track listing flowed. We were so happy with how the album progressed from the opening of chaos of ‘Roots Rock Riot‘ to the epic ending of ‘Choices and Decisions‘ we didn’t want to crowbar another song in needlessly. It was a hard decision to leave it out but we are so happy it’s being included in the re-release. It was always a band and producer favourite.”

Dub Trio Team Up With Skindred’s Benji Webbe For Cover Of Ini Kamoze‘s “Them Thing Deh”

Dub Trio have teamed up with Benji Webbe (Skindred) for a cover of Ini Kamoze‘s “Them Thing Deh.” The track, which has been retitled “Them Thing Deh Dub,“ can be streamed below:

Dub Trio‘s Stu Brooks commented:

“We’re putting this song out for the love of it. We knew we wanted to do a track that paid homage to our forefathers of reggae and dub, rhythm section greatness, Sly and Robbie. They have been an endless source of inspiration to us as a band from the beginning. So, as helicopters swarmed over Hollywood during BLM protests, my wife and I felt compelled to finally break quarantine.

As we approached Hollywood and Vine to join in solidarity with the protesters, ‘Them Thing Deh’ happened to be the soundtrack in my headphones. The lyric “got to keep your cool’ really spoke to me as I could feel the tension in the air.

That week, we quickly put the rhythm tracks together, recording from three different states, with the help of Roger Rivas on organ and keys and hit up our old friend, legend Benji Webbe. Benji is the ultimate genre-masher, soulfully clashing metal, reggae, punk, dub, dancehall… all the shit we love!”

Pitchshifter Release “EFKD 2020” EP

Pitchshifter have released a new EP titled “EFKD 2020.“ The effort, which can be purchased HERE, features several new versions of “Everything’s Fucked“ featuring members of Static-X, Fear Factory, Bullet For My Valentine, etc.

JS Clayden commented:

“I thought that everything was as messed up as it was going to get in the year 2000 when we originally released the ‘Everything’s F**ked’ single; but we’re two decades down the road and the lyrics are still applicable. We’re living in a slow-motion apocalypse. What better way to finally jockey clown ship earth off the bluffs than a re-issue of a 20-year-old tune lamenting the madness with a bunch of like-minded deviant provocateurs, and some live dates?”

Benji Webbe (Skindred) And Dean Beddis (Bad Sam) Release Cover Of Paul McCartney And Stevie Wonder’s “Ebony & Ivory”

Benji Webbe (Skindred) and Dean Beddis (Bad Sam) have teamed up for a cover of Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder’s “Ebony & Ivory.” The track is available on Bandcamp and the proceeds from it will go towards Eden Gate. Beddis commented:

“We had already decided to release it before George Floyd was murdered. But now it feels an even more appropriate time to release it. Virus pandemic, isolation, poverty, loss of income and abuse on top of all of this. Time to change, remove the bigots and racists from public service.”
