Numerous rock and metal guitarists will be teaming up to raise money for legendary guitarist Jason Becker, who has been battling ALS for over 30 years. The fundraiser will take place throughout March and April and it will be hosted by DragonForce‘s Herman Li.
Here’s what the fundraiser will include:
“1) A livestream telethon-style fundraiser on Twitch: special guests will appear on Herman Li’s Twitch channel to play, jam and participate in fan-generated challenges with all money raised going directly to Jason’s medical trust. Over $13,000 has been raised so far. Visit Jasonbecker.com or twitch.tv/hermanli for a full schedule of livestream guests.
2) Artists will donate signed guitars, merch and other rare items which will be sold via a special Reverb shop to benefit Jason. Details to be announced.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Jason Becker since I was young, and it’s one of the biggest honors of my life to be able to help organize this tribute and raise money for him. I still have a Jason Becker poster in my studio in London. It’s been very inspiring to see everyone coming together to celebrate Jason.”
“I am so grateful for all the love and support everyone has given to me and my family. As far as selling my guitars being sad, and that I shouldn’t have to do it, I just want you to know that isn’t how I feel. It makes me happy to see others playing my music. I feel good about passing on my guitars, thinking they mean something to others. I can’t play them now, but other folks can. That’s a good thing. And, I want myself and my family not to have to worry about money, if possible. Thank you for all the love, I send it right back to you.”
Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro has premiered a new song titled “Overflow.“ This track is from his new solo album “Open Source,“ which will be released on July 10.
Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro has premiered a new song titled “Imminent Threat.“ This track features former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and it will appear Loureiro‘s new album “Open Source,“ which is set to be released on July 10. Loureiro commented:
“For the last five years, I’ve always been compared to Marty Friedman, and Marty Friedman is a great musician — not only a great guitar player but an amazing musician. And I’m a big fan of his solo work and Cacophony and, of course, other Megadeth years, and I had a chance to meet him two times and have great conversations about music and about life with him. I have some guest musicians, guest guitarists on my new album, and guess what? Marty Friedman is one of them. I’m so happy to have Marty Friedman. He did, of course, an amazing solo on one of my songs. So, thank you, Marty.”
Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) has confirmed that his new solo album, “Open Source,” will be released on July 10. This news comes after the guitarist recently released a new single titled “EDM (e-Dependent Mind).” He has since shared a video in which he shows fans how to perform “the hardest phrase” in that track as well:
Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) has premiered a new video for his new song “EDM (e-Dependent Mind).” This track will appear on his upcoming solo album “Open Source.”
Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) has confirmed that his new solo album will be titled “Open Source.” The effort’s cover art, which was created by Gustavo Sazes, can be found below:
Loureiro said the following:
“By definition, ‘open source’ is related to softwares which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. It brings us a higher sense of community, enhances our creativity and creates new possibilities. So why not take this concept to our art, our music? How much richer a song could be if others had access to its source code? What if the song’s original composition wasn’t the final product? What if it was just the beginning? Something that could be constantly updated and evolve over time. And as well as a machine, we as humans are also minded to enhancements, being an open source ourselves, constantly moving and growing, through technology, science, spirituality… and art.”
This is the mindset which I bring now to my fifth solo album, that was named… guess what? OPEN SOURCE!
My compositions and recordings are not the final objective of the album, but rather the start. I want you to have access to the way I created the album concept, to the songs and to how I played them. In addition, I will make the stems available for download. So you can remix, recreate and make new versions of it. And I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna create from that. I can expect different approaches and better versions than mine.
To make all this possible, I’m doing a crowdfunding campaign and stretching goals to be able to create and share even more with you. Some of the perks are unique. Brings us closer, we can collaborate together and I’m very excited to have this possibility through this campaign.
When you participate in this limited-time exclusive crowdfund, you officially become a partner of mine. And you’re helping to launch this album worldwide. And if you’re not the composer kind, don’t worry, the backing tracks will also be available. So weather you play an instrument or are a music producer, you can put your own spin on it.”
I’m looking forward to sharing this project with the world. Stay healthy and stay safe!”
