Godsmack May Release A New Album And An Acoustic EP Next Year

During a recent appearance on the “Appetite For Distortion” podcast, Sully Erna talked a bit about Godsmack’s current plans. He said the following:

“We’re starting to get ready to write some more music now for the GODSMACK record. We’re gonna try to maybe even do two albums next year, so there’s an acoustic EP and a full-length rock record. And I might even work with the solo band and do some solo stuff. So I’ve got a lot going on. It’s better to stay busy, I believe, than stay bored. Bored gets you in trouble.”

Godsmack’s Sully Erna Recruits Shinedown, Papa Roach, Staind, Etc. Members For “Live From The Living Room” Charity Fundraiser

Sully Erna (Godsmack) has announced a “Live From The Living Room” fundraiser for The Scars Foundation. The event will stream on the frontman’s YouTube channel and the Foundation’s Facebook page on August 6 at 5:00 p.m PT / 8:00 p.m. ET and it will feature Godsmack, Erna solo (feat. Chris Lester and Máiréad Nesbitt), Staind’s Aaron Lewis, Shinedown’s Brent Smith and Zach Myers, Papa Roach, Saint Asonia’s Mike Mushok and Adam Gontier, Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, and Sevendust’s Clint Lowery.

Erna commented:

“I had always looked for ways to give back and help others in some way after reaching certain levels of success in my life. But I could never really figure out where to dedicate my time and attention and what was important to me, or where I even had experience to offer. One day, I started thinking about my own life and being a survivor of such an extremely rough inner city and that’s where all my experience was. It was all the battle wounds and scars I’ve carried that made me stronger and made me the man I am today. Instead of being ashamed of my imperfections, or hiding from them, I learned how to embrace them and grow from those experiences. I want to share that with people and lend my stories, my experiences, and my theories on how you can overcome challenging times rather than letting them ruin your life.

And that’s why The Scars Foundation is so important to me. It’s personal. It’s my life. And it’s important that people who struggle with these mental health issues and ‘imperfections,’ or ‘scars,’ as we call them, learn how to embrace them, and show them to the world loudly and proudly!

I hope the work we do with The Scars Foundation inspires people to come forward and share their stories so that those stories inspire more people to come forward and break the silence and internal struggles.

Just remember: you’re not alone. And we’re all imperfectly perfect. Just the way we’re supposed to be!”

In addition to the livestream, fans can also participate in a charity auction HERE.

Godsmack’s Sully Erna: “I’m Gonna Try To Get Two Records Done Before The Holidays”

During a recent appearance on “Offstage With DWP”, Sully Erna discussed his upcoming plans amid the coronavirus pandemic. The frontman said he is hoping to use his time to finish a new Godsmack album and a new solo record.

Erna said the following:

“There’s a lot going on, but what is gonna be permitted is yet to be told. My main priority is to spend the rest of this year with my band, writing, rehearsing, recording, mixing, mastering, getting new GODSMACK ready to go for the top of ’21. And I’m really hoping to be able to get even a solo record done this year. So I’m gonna try to get very aggressive with my creativity and get two records done before the holidays. So that’s gonna be challenging. Once I’m in that creative space, though, it usually starts going quick. It’s just getting that wound open again and trying to get that vessel to work, that instrument to work. Because when it’s closed off for a while and you’re just being dad, and you’re being the guy who’s trying to set up a new business, and you’re installing new hardwood floors at your house or something — you’re just that dude, right? And you’re not playing the guitar and getting artsy. So I’ve gotta shut off that to become this again. Once I get into that open space, then I think I should be able to get a couple of records done this year. So as far as content goes, that’s one of my missions to accomplish in 2020 while the world is rehabbing.”

He continued:

“The other thing that we are getting very close on is, I have a feature documentary that’s been shot for many years now about my life story from zero until I got a record deal, which is based on a book that I put out, ‘The Paths We Choose’. They’ve been working on this feature documentary about that, and we’re really hoping that’s gonna be wrapped by the end of July and try to find a home for it, whether it’s Netflix or somewhere it has a platform to play it on. So that’s on the plate.”

Godsmack’s Music Publishing Catalog And Master Royalty Stream Acquired By Primary Wave Music Publishing

Primary Wave Music Publishing has officially acquired Godsmack’s music publishing catalog and master royalty stream. Frontman Sully Erna said the following about that:

“I can honestly say on behalf of myself and my boys in Godsmack, we couldn’t be happier at this stage in our career to have such an elite publishing company onboard team Godsmack. This goes much deeper for me than just money; these guys really care about the music and doing the right thing to keep it alive and bring the most visibility to the brand. Being the main songwriter for the band, these songs, are my life’s work, and I would NEVER put that in anyone’s hands unless I was 100% sure they were the right fit for us. And I believe Primary Wave is exactly where this music should be.”

Godsmack Cancel 2020 Touring Plans

Godsmack have decided to cancel all of their 2020 touring plans due to the coronavirus pandemic. This includes a previously unannounced summer tour with The Pretty Reckless.

Sully Erna said the following during an appearance on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation”:

“We were going out with The Pretty Reckless to do a major tour in July through September, but all that’s gone now. Because I don’t see this thing resolving itself to the point where people are going to want to jump back into big crowds yet.

I do think we’re gonna eradicate this thing and I have high hopes that this is gonna end soon, but I do think there’s gonna be a lag where people are gonna [say] (a) ‘Maybe I’m not gonna go right to a concert yet or a sports event and be around a lot of people; there’s lingering parts of this thing going on.’ And (b), with people losing houses and their jobs and stuff like that, I think when it comes back, they’re gonna be, like, ‘All right. I’m glad it’s over. Let’s get back to work. But I probably should replenish my savings account before I start buying concert tickets.’”

“We decided, ‘You know what? Let’s not try to jam ourselves into the fall.’ We were at the tail end of this record anyway, so this gives us time to go work on a new album and also be first next year to be able to pick the venues we wanna go to, the tour buses that we want, the days that we wanna be at those venues, the markets we wanna be in, and let’s just book out ahead of time and be first next year instead of trying to find our little piece of real estate this fall when every other band is probably gonna try to go out and tour.”
