Evile Premiere Music Video For New Song “Gore” Featuring Brian Posehn

Evile have premiered a new video for their new song “Gore.” This track features Brian Posehn and it will appear on the band’s new album “Hell Unleashed,” which is set to be released on April 30.

Ol Drake commented:

“Here it is! The second new Evile single from the upcoming album ‘Hell Unleashed‘. This is a song about a topic that no other metal band has ever covered before; a serial killer. This song harkens back more to the first Evile album; it could easily be a track from our beginnings. It’s heavy, it’s fast, it has some great changes, and it will punch you in the face sonically. The overall message of this song/video is that these horrible individuals are hidden in plain sight. They could be our friends, family, or colleagues.

We’re also excited to welcome back the extremely hilarious and extremely metal comedian Brian Posehn. He was kind enough to provide us with some backing vocals in the chorus. Luckily, we only needed the one-word shouting, so we got a great collection of Posehn ‘Gore’s to sift through. Thank you, Brian!”

Anthrax Team Up With Z2 Comics For “Among The Living” Graphic Novel

Anthrax have joined forces with Z2 Comics to create a new graphic novel inspired by their 1987 album “Among The Living“. Members of Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and more contributed to the book, which can be pre-ordered HERE.

A press release offered the following description of the effort:

“An anthology narrated by longtime mascot “The Not Man,” newly designed by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), Among the Living unites [Charlie] Benante and [Scott] Ian with writers Brian Azzarello, Grant Morrison, Jimmy Palmiotti, Brian Posehn, Rick Remender, Corey Taylor, Joseph Trohman, Gerard and Mikey Way, and Rob Zombie, with more to be announced.

Artists include Roland Boschi, Maan House, Dave Johnson, Scott Koblish, Darrick Robertson, and Erik Rodriguez, and more, with covers by Benante, JG Jones, and Eric Powell. Band members Benante and Ian will collaborate on an original story inspired by the fan favorite anthem “I Am the Law,” featuring the legendary comic book antihero Judge Dredd, in partnership with 2000 AD.

This will make official the decades long connection between the character and the band, rewarding comic book fans and metalheads alike.”

Charlie Benante commented:

“Doing a comic book has always been a huge goal for me. I’ve tried for years, but something always comes up and sidetracks me. I was ecstatic when Josh Bernstein brought the idea to us to do a graphic novel based on our album ‘Among The Living‘. I felt that it was the perfect time and opportunity to fulfill that dream.

I am a lifelong artist and have been drawing during the pandemic more than ever, so I had the idea to bring my own artwork to this project. As a fan of the Judge Dredd series since the 80’s, it was an honor to create cover art based off of Dredd and Judge Death. The amount of talent that is going into this project is astounding, I scratch my head just thinking about it!”

Scott Ian added:

“Comics are one of the two things (the other thing being Horror) that I’ve been into longer than music. Comics were/are my constant. Music joined the party and became my constant as well. I started a band. I wrote lyrics about comics and horror and they connected with people all over the world. And now for the 40th (40!!!) anniversary of Anthrax, I get to cross the streams and merge my constants with a graphic novel (comic) celebrating the album that made such a mark on the planet – ‘Among The Living.’

Getting to be a part of this process – choosing writers and artists to express what these songs mean to them – has been incredible. I made a wish list of writers/artists/musicians that I would love to be a part of this, not really thinking we’d get them.

I was aiming high, the list had Grant Morrison‘s name at the top – and Grant said yes. Brian Azzarello said yes. Eric Powell, J.G. Jones, Greg Nicotero, Corey Taylor, Rob Zombie, Brian Posehn, Rick Remender, Joe Trohman, Gerard & Mikey Way – they all said yes. Holy crap!”

“I pitched a Judge Dredd story for ‘I Am The Law‘ that I’d been thinking about for a while. It was an idea I actually talked to Grant about one night after an Anthrax show in Glasgow over a few drinks. This idea has stayed with me, I’d never written it down, it was one of those ideas that would smack me in the face every few months demanding to be recognized, I just didn’t have an outlet for it.

And then I did have an outlet with this project but, we didn’t have the rights to use Dredd in our book. You have to ask right? So we sent my idea to the kind folks at Rebellion and they green-lit my story. And there, my friends, is the moment where everything came full circle for me as a life-long comic nerd and the as the guy in Anthrax. Thank you ‘Among the Living.’ for making it all happen.”

Brian Posehn Premieres “Grandpa Metal” Video

Brian Posehn Premieres New Song “Grandpa Metal” Feat. Scott Ian (Anthrax) & Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)

Brian Posehn has premiered a new track, titled “Grandpa Metal,” via Billboard. This song features Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) and it will serve as the title track of Posehn’s new comedy metal album, which is set to be released on February 14.

Posehn commented:

“We had the title. The idea is that all guys my age [53] are kind of grandpa metal, stuck in the ’80s or whenever they liked heavy metal. Their opinions have not changed since then.”

“I came on the idea of just making fun of Scott [Ian], ’cause he literally hasn’t liked a new band since Refused, and I find that funny. Once I decided it would just be me busting his balls, I started filling the song with as many old-guy jokes as I could.”

“[Then I] got onto this thread commenting on all the different things I love about heavy metal and having a sense of humor about all these different genres of music and commenting on them.”

Posehn said the following about the album:

“The original concept for this album came from bands like Scatterbrain and S.O.D., and even Cheech and Chong. They all made music that was fun and funny, heavy music that also made you laugh.

I wanted this to be the ultimate comedy/metal record, a loving record that made fun of some of the things in heavy metal, so I called all my friends and asked for a bunch of favors.

There’s a Satan song, and there’s a Viking song, there’s one song that sounds like Black Metal, and then there’s one that sounds like a Van Halen party song. The intention was just to make a funny metal/comedy record for people who like both of those things.”

He also added:

“This was such a dream project for me. I wanted to take my time, I wanted it to be perfect, so it took us six years to complete. It’s the ‘Chinese Democracy‘ of comedy-metal records. And it didn’t cost thirteen million dollars to make.”

Brian Posehn Taps Slayer, Testament, Soundgarden, Etc. Members For New Album

In a new interview with Metal Injection, comedian, Brian Posehn revealed the special guests the will be on his new album. Members of Testament, Slayer, Soundgarden and more have all been confirmed for the effort.

Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s taking forever but Anthrax is just finishing up their next record, it’s coming out in February. We’re using the same producer, [Jay Ruston]. We’ve been doing it for a while. It’s all written and most of the tracks are done. It’s just tweaking now. Scott and I wrote it with the help of Brendon Small from Metalocalypse, he wrote some songs too. It’s really close to being done and once we have it done, we’ll figure out when it’s coming out and all that.

We’re putting it out through Megaforce [Records], which, as a metal fan is crazy. I’m doing something for that label 30 years after loving that label.

I’ve been talking with Jay [Ruston] and after I finish promoting this movie, he and I are going to finish up what we can. We’re trying to get Phil Anselmo to do a guest part. We have a bunch of guests already. Alex Skolnick [Testament guitarist] did a solo. Gary Holt [Exodus and Slayer guitarist] did a solo. Kim Thayil from Soundgarden is doing a thing.

So a bunch of badass guys are doing parts. And, I’m also using other vocalists, as I’ve done before. I had Mark Osegueda of Death Angel do “More Metal Than You” with me, because I can’t scream. So, we have guys like Chuck Billy [Testament vocalist] coming in. I wrote a thing for Phil [Anselmo] to do and Phil said he’d do it, it’s just nailing him down and getting him in LA. And that’ll be it. Once we get those final touches down, we can put the record to bed.”
