Dark Angel Drummer Gene Hoglan On The Band’s New Material: “We’re Just Trying To Make It The Most Aggressive Dark Angel Music That We Can Make”

During an appearance on the “Poppitt’s Corner” podcast, Dark Angel’s Gene Hoglan discussed the new material the band are working on for their new album. The drummer says the group are “trying to make it the most aggressive Dark Angel music that [they] can make.”

Hoglan said the following:

“We’ve been playing a lot of live shows, and we tend to play festivals ’cause that just kind of works out the best. We’re writing the next album, and I’ve been concentrating on writing that, and [guitarist] Jim Durkin is also writing.

At the moment, Jim, he’s had to take a little bit time off from some live shows, but that was always kind of built into our system. ‘Cause when we got ourselves back together, he was, like, ‘Hey, guys, just so you know, there’s gonna be some times somewhere in the future where I might not be able to make certain shows, or there could an entire run that I might not be able to make. As long as you guys are cool moving forward with it. And we were able to get a good eight years with Jim, at least. So there you go.”

We’re just writing, and we’re just trying to make it the most aggressive DARK ANGEL music that we can make.”

Dark Angel Hope To Release New Album By Mid-2023

During a recent appearance on Oxygène Radio’s “Metal Zone,” Dark Angel’s Gene Hoglan offered an update on the band’s plans for new music. The drummer says the group are hoping to release a new album by mid-2023.

Hoglan said the following:

“We are writing right now. I’ve been writing for the last decade, really, just putting down DARK ANGEL riffs and all that. So now that we’re really moving forward with DARK ANGEL…

When we reformed a number of years ago — about a decade or so ago — it was for just a bunch of concerts. And then we all jelled together so good, I’m, like, ‘Man, let’s keep this together. Let’s start writing.’ So [guitarist] Jim Durkin and myself have been writing a ton of stuff. So hopefully by the middle part of 2023, we hope to have a new album out. We’re hoping.

My schedule has been so crazy. All I can do is just keep working on material. So at some point before 2023, I hope to get the drums recorded and the guitars and get all the rest of the record on the road. But we’re hoping.”
