Anthrax Announce New Bourbon Inspired By Dimebag Darrell

Anthrax have launched a new limited edition 115.6 proof bourbon, which they are calling “The Healer.” The drink’s name was inspired by the late Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), who used to say “booze is the healer.”

The following description of the bourbon was shared on mashandgrape.com:

“This is a highly limited, cask strength edition of Hillrock’s famous Solera Aged Bourbon personally selected by Anthrax.

The slight cinnamon aromas are surprising along with the oaked caramel-vanilla and floral, fruit notes on the nose of this golden amber bourbon. Sweet, yet spicy full-bodied flavors are warm with maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, roasted corn, and raisin notes on the palate are balanced by spicy notes of clove and cinnamon. The medium to long warm finish abounds with sweet caramel and butterscotch. Familiar characteristic of Oloroso sherry flavors of walnut, fig and candied fruit balance the spicy rye undertones. A lush and velvety expression of our Solera Aged Bourbon amplified at undiluted proof. Specially selected for its clear Oloroso sherry influence and delicate balance of proof and flavor, as well as it’s incredibly long finish. A truly decanter worthy bottling.”

Charlie Benante said the following:

“The first time I heard Dimebag refer to booze being a healer was when we were on tour together and I was really sick. He came onto our bus, opened my bunk curtain, gave me a shot of whiskey and said ‘booze is the healer.'”

Scott Ian also commented:

“‘If we arrived for soundcheck a little hungover, Dimebag would be standing there with a knowing Cheshire Cat smile, a shot of whiskey at the ready and the words ‘booze is the healer.’ And goddamn if it didn’t work. Put us right back on the horse.”

“To my uneducated palate, this high rye content bourbon with notes of toffee, molasses, cinnamon and mint was incredibly well-balanced. The depth of the flavor was intense. In layman’s terms, it’s some damn-good hooch!”

Frank Bello added:

“This bourbon got my vote right away. When I took the first sip, the mix of flavors really came out in a big way, and it was obvious to me that this bourbon had to become my new best friend. It was like a cool smooth vibe that made me pour a second glass. Second glasses are fun.”

Alice In Chains To Release “All Secrets Known” Bourbon

Few Spirits and Warner Music Artist Services have teamed up with Alice In Chains to create a new limited-release bourbon called “All Secrets Known.” The drink was distilled by Few Spirits master distiller Paul Hletko and it features a custom-designed label by artist Justin Helton. It is a 101 proof (50.5% ABV) bourbon that was finished for six months in tequila barrels.

Hletko said the following:

“There are no two spirits that have a closer association with rock and roll than whiskey and tequila. Bringing together elements of both, but in an unconventional, innovative way, is an illustration of what we try to do every time we distill a new product.

Alice in Chains is part of one of very few movements that can be legitimately credited with shapeshifting an entire culture, beginning with their first album, ‘Facelift’. For us distilling, like making music, is about having the courage to ask, ‘What if we…’ and being excited to find the answers — unlocking those secrets.

Nobody sounds like Alice in Chains. We were inspired by their courage to create a sound that flouted convention and thought, ‘There are lots of tequilas finished in bourbon barrels, but it’s rare to find a widely available bourbon finished in tequila barrels. Let’s do that instead.'”

Matt Young, EVP of Warner Music Artist Services, added:

“Our team always seeks out the best in the business when it comes to our artist product collaborations. Few Spirits was a no-brainer when the idea first came up to create an Alice in Chains bourbon whiskey.”

Helton also commented:

“I’ve been a fan of Alice In Chains forever, with ‘Jar Of Flies’ being one of the first CDs I ever owned. ‘I Stay Away’ and ‘No Excuses’ were on repeat in my room. For this design, I found inspiration in the name All Secrets Known. The eye in the mouth is a play on seeing all that’s been spoken. The color scheme is a nod to ‘Black Gives Way To Blue’, the album on which the song ‘All Secret Known’ appears.

Brainville led to access. Doors started opening and I’ve always felt like when you get a chance to work with cool people you admire, you’ve got to at least check it out. As a longtime fan of Alice In Chains and someone who has at various points made his living as a guitar player, the opportunity to work with someone like Jerry Cantrell, whose sound is unlike any other, was one we were determined to see through come hell or high water.”

The bourbon will be available in California, Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington. It will also be available on ReserveBar.com.
