Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) served as the musical guest on the September 29 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!.” You can watch him perform “Soldier In The Army Of Love” on the show below. Notably, his backing band included his son Roman. The track appears on the guitarist’s latest album “Everyone Gets Everything They Want.”

I was recently given the opportunity to interview Kingdom Collapse vocalist Jonathan Norris about the band’s new album “Survivor” (out October 30). You can check out that chat below.
METAL ANARCHY: First of all, what would you like to tell readers of this site about your new album?
NORRIS: “SURVIVOR” is a soundtrack of anthems that take you through the ups and downs of life. Catchy hooks, big riffs, in your face messages and an underlying theme of hope.
METAL ANARCHY: What was the recording process like?
NORRIS: With this being our debut album, we wanted to give the world a taste of what Kingdom Collapse is. So the entire process was done in-house. Writing, recording, producing, mixing mastering. 100% artistic integrity.
METAL ANARCHY: What themes are you exploring on the record?
NORRIS: Death, loss, relationship struggles, existential thoughts, really anything that life can throw at you.
METAL ANARCHY: You have already shared several singles from the effort. How have fans been responding to the new material?
NORRIS: It’s been incredible seeing the reception of the new singles. “Survivor” has been at radio for the last month or so and is already at #30 so we’re stoked to see where it ends up!
METAL ANARCHY: I really dig your cover of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten.” What made you decide to take on that track?
NORRIS: “Unwritten” was one of those songs that was EVERYWHERE growing up. So it never left my head. One day we were on tour and had stopped at a place for lunch and it was playing and I remember thinking “We would crush a cover of this” so we got home from that tour and I recorded it for fun. So we decided to go all in and put it out with the debut album.
METAL ANARCHY: What are some of your personal favorite songs from the album?
NORRIS: Definitely “Up In Flames.” That song came together so naturally and had a spirit of its own. I remember writing it with David and the words just spilled off the page.
METAL ANARCHY: You’re about to hit the road with Lakeview and Adelitas Way. What can fans expect from those shows?
NORRIS: We’ve been out for most of the year but it’s been awesome introducing all the new songs into our set and seeing everyone singing along to them. A Kingdom Collapse show is always a party.
METAL ANARCHY: Which unreleased track are you most excited to debut live?
NORRIS: Definitely “Up In Flames.” It’s such an anthem/sing-along track. Think old-school “lighters in the air” type of vibe.
METAL ANARCHY: Lastly, what are you future plans beyond the album’s release?
NORRIS: We have lots of exciting touring stuff in the works for 2027. We’ll be ringing in the New Year with Sevendust in Orlando at the House of Blues Disney World. So I think that’s a good sign of what’s to come.
Linkin Park have started working on material for their next album. However, release plans are still pending.
DJ Joe Hahn told NME the following when asked if the group have new music in the works:
“Yeah, because we really enjoy being around each other, and we especially love the creation side of things and making music. When we were touring in different cities, if there was a day off, we would go into studios just to tinker around with stuff. And when we finished touring, we decided to take a month off because we needed a break, but then we jumped right back into the studio.”
He also added the following when asked if the band have plans for a new album:
“Oh, yeah… and it’s going to be really slow and boring, and very polarising to everyone [Laughs].”
He also discussed how they approach new music:
“When we’re in the studio, we actually intentionally deviate as far away as possible [from what we did in the past] because we want to challenge ourselves and experiment. We don’t want to be locked into what’s been previously done.
As songs naturally progress, some of those components might naturally start to come back into play, but we don’t go in saying, ‘Oh, we’re making this type of music and only this type of music.’ We’re more like, ‘Let’s make music. This instrument will sound great over this type of thing, and this vocal will sound great over this other type of thing.’
I often think back to what we were trying to do before we wrote [2000’s] ‘Hybrid Theory.’ ‘Hybrid Theory’ used to be our band name, and then it became just the ethos of what we were trying to accomplish on that first record, which was: ‘Let’s just grab from everywhere and put style into what we’re doing.’ That’s what we continue to do.”

While responding to a fan on Instagram, Slipknot’s Jim Root reflected on the band’s divisive 2022 album “The End, So Far.” For his part, the guitarist believes the record “was disjointed and a mess.”
The fan initially said the following:
“I feel like y’all have always done what you wanted to do, with the exception of TESF, because y’all have talked ad nauseum about that process. I’m just excited for you guys to do what YOU WANT to do again, without the label and corporate pressure. I think that’s the only way to appropriately compare the early records to now…you guys writing the music for yourselves and where you’re at in life. That said, Ngl, bummed about KKTX and Manson being anywhere near y’all, but understand it might not just be up to y’all. Thanks for your candor Jim, in your interactions and conversations with us as fans. Happy recording!”
Root then responded:
“We’ve never had a A&R guy over our shoulders suggesting this or that. I did meet the head of Warner on a tour of the offices in NYC once. He brought up “bringing in outside writers” and I just said… “No. That’s not what we do” and that was the end of it. TESF was disjointed and a mess. Some good stuff came from it. But overall Covid and the state of the world made that a very hard process for us. Among other circumstances.
I stay out of the logistics of touring and all that. I concentrate on writing and being a guitarist… so forgive my ignorance about who we do shows with. There are other people with much bigger brains than I that coordinate all that and I honestly don’t keep up with new bands or new music etc. I’m stuck listening to the same music my parents listened to when I was forming myself as a little human. And I purposely don’t listen to or pay attention to what’s “trending” or what’s happening at them moment as to not get influenced by anything. if one is a part of the family they will come along for the journey that started 26+ years ago… even before I was a part of the story. If not. Cya and with that said… I’m late for the studio. TTYL.”
