  • Tom Morello Joined By Bruce Springsteen At Recent Protest Show, Calls Minneapolis An “Inspiration To The Entire Nation”

Yesterday (January 30), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, etc.), Rise Against, Al Di Meola, and Ike Reilly took aim at the Trump administration and ICE during a special protest show at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN. Notably, Bruce Springsteen also made a surprise appearance during the event. You can see fan-filmed footage from the concert below.

Morello said the following during his set:

“Brothers and sisters, thank you for welcoming us to the battle of Minneapolis. My friends, if it looks like fascism, sounds like fascism, acts like fascism, dresses like fascism, talks like fascism, kills like fascism and lies like fascism, brothers and sisters, it’s f*cking fascism. It’s here, it’s now, it’s in my city, it’s in your city and it must be resisted, protested, defended against, stood up to, exposed, ousted, overthrown and driven out. By who? By you. By me.

Minneapolis is an inspiration to the entire nation. You have heroically stood up against ICE, stood up against Trump, stood up against this terrible rising tide of state terror. You’ve stood up for your neighbors and for yourselves and for democracy and for justice. Ain’t nobody coming to save us, except us. And brothers and sisters, you are showing the way.

To that end, we would like to begin our program with an old Native American war chant. We encourage you to singalong, in this very room Prince created a revolution, now it’s our turn.”

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers Take Issue With Marketing Of New Netflix Documentary, Say It Was Meant To Focus On Hillel Slovak

Red Hot Chili Peppers have taken issue with the marketing behind Netflix’s “The Rise Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers” documentary. According to them, the project was meant to be a film about late guitarist Hillel Slovak rather than a general band documentary.

    The group said the following:

    “Dear people of the universe,

About a year ago, we were asked to be interviewed for a documentary about Hillel Slovak. He was a founding member of the group, a great guitarist, and friend. We agreed to be interviewed out of love and respect for Hillel and his memory.

However, this documentary is now being advertised as a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary, which it is not. We had nothing to do with it creatively. We have yet to make a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary. The central subject of this current Netflix special is Hillel Slovak and we hope it sparks interest in him and his work.”

As previously reported, “The Rise Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers” will hit Netflix on March 20.

  • Marmozets Premiere “New York” Music Video

Marmozets have premiered a new video for their new song “New York.” This track is from their new album, “CO.WAR.DICE.,” which will be released on May 22.

Vocalist Becca Bottomley commented on the song:

“New York is an eccentric city, full of eccentric people and that inspires us. We reminisced of our first trip over a bottle of red as we recorded ideas. We met a police officer smoking a cigar outside JFK airport, got in a cab while ‘Africa’ by Toto blasted out of the radio as we approached Manhattan. We wanted to write something that kind of encapsulated that 70’s punk energy while painting a picture of this wild experience we had of playing a show downtown to secure our first record deal.”

She also added the following about the album:

“’CO.WAR.DICE.’ is an album reflecting on the state of our world and a vow to ourselves to leave this world in a better place. We may never make a huge impact, but we can only try. Like any story there’s a beginning, middle and end and we’ve chosen for a happy ending.”

    “CO.WAR.DICE.” Track Listing:

    01. “A Kiss From A Mother”
    02. “New York ”
    03. “Cut Back”
    04. “Swear I’m Alive”
    05. “Running With The Sun In Your Eyes”
