Frontman M. Shadows commented:

“It’s very typical of musicians to write 20 to 30 songs for a particular album. Most of the time, they take the best of the bunch and call it a day, discarding the rest. We have never written like that. We don’t usually finish songs unless they are fulfilling a purpose. The one exception to this was during the self-titled era. We were experimenting with our sound, producing ourselves and we had no one to reel us in.

Eventually, the unreleased songs from these sessions were released under the name Diamonds in the Rough. We’ve heard the demand from many fans that want to stream the album and we wanted to make it special. So, we have remastered the album and added some hard to find tracks. We even found an unreleased track from the Hail to the King sessions that we think you will enjoy.”

Satyricon To Release 20th Anniversary Edition Of “Rebel Extravaganza” In December

Satyricon have announced that they will be releasing a 20th anniversary edition of “Rebel Extravaganza” on December 13. This version of the effort was remastered and it will be available as a special limited picture double vinyl set, as a 2-LP gatefold, and as a digipack.

Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven commented:

“As much as Rebel was a new record to us, it was also a protest. I felt the genre was turning gothic and that there were more interesting and sustainable types of expression that could be incorporated in the Black Metal to make it grow and spark new life into it.

My own bottomless misanthropy at the time, was also instrumental in shaping the record. Frost and I are proud of how this record contributed to a development for the genre we all know now was necessary. This was a record many discovered in hindsight and that says a lot about its complexity, controversy and importance.

Today, 20 years later, the new version sounds and looks better than this record has ever done. We hope you feel the same way.”

Cradle Of Filth To Re-Release “Cruelty And The Beast” In November

Cradle Of Filth will officially re-release their 1998 album “Cruelty And The Beast” on November 1 via Music For Nations. This version of the effort, which is titled “Cruelty And The Beast – Re-Mistressed,“ was remixed and remastered by Scott Atkins. It will also include a bonus cover of Iron Maiden‘s “Hallowed Be Thy Name,“ new artwork by Stuart Williamson, and revised liner notes by frontman Dani Filth and Dayal Patterson. Pre-orders can be found HERE.

Filth commented:

“Released on the 5th of May, around the same time as we were arrested at the Vatican, ‘Cruelty.. and The Beast’ had been a painstaking labour of love, a year of intense writing amid ever growing popularity and distraction. The album’s concept of the Hungarian blood countess Elizabeth Bathory – both historically astute and fictionally correct – was to become a dangerous obsession of mine and one that saw many a first light of dawn working on the lyrics, hellbent on making the story worthy of her legend.”

“Cruelty And The Beast remains a phenomenally important album in the band’s back catalogue and one that I am exceptionally proud of, as I am exceptionally proud of this Re-Mistressed version, 21 years on from the original release. I hope the listener – sitting there by the flame-lit hearth with his/her walnut pipe on the go – thoroughly enjoys this Cradle classic, so vividly brought back to life for the fickle world today.”

Patterson added:

“Cruelty And The Beast has long been considered a milestone album in Cradle Of Filth’s career, a combination of atmospheric storytelling and visceral, and surprisingly vicious, songs. This 21st anniversary edition has bolstered those songs with an added weight, improving the sound considerably with a warmer and punchier mix, making it a must hear for long-time fans and newcomers alike.”

Epica To Re-Release “Design Your Universe” With Bonus Disc Featuring Acoustic Tracks

This version has been remixed and remastered by Joost van den Broek and it will come with updated artwork and a bonus disc featuring newly recorded acoustic renditions of songs from the effort.

“‘Design Your Universe’ is an album that is very dear to me not only because of the music, but also because of the message behind it. I am looking forward to the anniversary release and all the upcoming shows. The bonus CD is a worthy addition to ‘Design Your Universe’ and I can’t wait for you all to hear the songs!”
