Brandon Boyd (Incubus) & Portugal. The Man Guest On AWOLNATION’s Cover Of Scorpions’ “Wind Of Change”

AWOLNATION have joined forces with Brandon Boyd (Incubus) and Portugal. The Man for a cover of Scorpions‘ “Wind Of Change.“ This track will appear on AWOLNATION’s new covers album, “My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me,” which is set to be released on May 6.

AWOLNATION’s Aaron Bruno said the following:

“I’ve known Brandon for awhile and he’s been good to me over the years of being in this industry. The guys from Portugal. The Man feel like brothers from a hardcore band we would be in in another lifetime. This is such a massive song that I thought I’d swing for the fences. ALSO, did the CIA really write it???”

Portugal. The Man’s John Gourley also commented:

“This song marks a very significant point in my childhood. My dad pulled me to the TV in 1989 to watch the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was the first time I truly became aware of the world around me. We wrote a song about that experience called ‘1989’ Like many others, ‘Wind Of Change’ sticks to that memory for me.”

Incubus’ Brandon Boyd added:

“This track has been drifting around in my headspace since I first heard it as a kid in the 1990s. It never occurred to me that it would be a great song to cover until Aaron suggested it for his project. The deal was doubly sweetened when he told me John from Portugal. The Man would be joining us as well. I’m thrilled to be part of it!”

Tom Morello Premieres Lyric Video For New Song “Every Step That I Take” Feat. Portugal. The Man & Whethan

Tom Morello To Honor Chris Cornell With New Song “Every Step That I Take”

During an an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Tom Morello (Prophets Of Rage/Rage Against The Machine) revealed that he will be partnering with SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) for his new song “Every Step That I Take” as way to honor his late Audioslave bandmate Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, etc.). That track features Portugal. The Man and Whethan, and it will appear on Morello’s new album “The Atlas Underground” (out October 12).

Morello said the following:

“For the song “Every Step That I Take” with Portugal. The Man and Whethan, a teenage EDM marvel, we’re partnering with an organization called SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), focusing on suicide prevention, information and depression awareness. With the passing of Chris (Cornell of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave) over a year ago, and the momentum towards removing the stigma from mental health issues and suicidal thoughts, it was very important to have a song from that point of view.

I’ve had mental illness issues in my family and among my friends in the past, and there’s a current trend toward this demystification to encourage people, among your friends, loved ones and professionals, there is help and there are ways. You know, you break your arm — it’s not a stigma to go to the hospital to get it set. Hopefully we’re able to start looking at suicidal thoughts and depression in the same way that can materially save lives. “Every Step That I Take” is about how the dreams, and depression, and love and the lack of it on the emotional steps of the gallows are processed. It was a song written by myself and Matt Shultz from Cage the Elephant and Johnny (Gourley) from Portugal. The Man sings it and it’s just a beautiful song. One of my favorites on the record.”
