Iron Maiden Announce “Legacy Of The Beast” In-Game Collaboration With Ghost

Iron Maiden have teamed up with Ghost for a new collaboration inside their “Legacy Of The Beast” mobile game. Papa Emeritus IV will appear in the game as part of a special “Mascarade Diabolique” event, which will run from October 13 to November 12.

A press release offered more details:

“The game’s Mascarade Diabolique event is an ode to both bands’ lore taking its broad themes from the cover of Iron Maiden’s 2003 album “Dance of Death” and the video for Ghost’s 2018 song, ‘Dance Macabre,’. In this new storyline, Eddie and Papa Emeritus IV are both invited to a mysterious party in Transylvania (taken from the intro to A Dance Macabre & also surely a nod to the first Maiden instrumental track of the same name on their debut album!)

They soon discover that things are getting out of hand, even faster than usual, as a sinister force has mastered the power to mimic the un-bindable will of the sentient powers of free will and individuality, in an effort to bind them to its control. Together they must fight through the hordes of mind-controlled revelers to confront the corrupted mimic, Cardinal Immortus, an evil clone of Papa Emeritus.”

Ghost’s Tobias Forge added:

“I’m happy to see that my creature is being led into [Maiden’s] world. That is a cool thing, both very humbling and flattering.”

Watch Cardinal Copia Become Papa Emeritus IV In Ghost’s New Video For “Life Eternal”

Ghost have premiered a new video for their song “Life Eternal.” The clip was recorded one year ago today (March 3) during the final show of the “Prequelle“ touring cycle at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico. That concert notably featured the death of Papa Nihil and the promotion of Cardinal Copia to Papa Emeritus IV.

Tobias Forge Says Papa Emeritus IV Will Front Ghost On Their Next Album Cycle

During a recent interview with Kerrang!, Ghost’s Tobias Forge confirmed that Papa Emeritus IV will be fronting the band on their next album cycle. However, it is still unclear if Cardinal Copia will be promoted or if a whole new character will be taking over.

Forge said the following when asked who will front the band:

“I just know that person will have the name Papa Emeritus IV. It will be the fourth Papa Emeritus. But who that is, we don’t know yet.”

The singer also added the following about the new record, which is expected to be released in 2021:

“I look at many fifth albums as a guide as to the urgency for what that record will need to be, with [Iron Maiden’s] ‘Powerslave‘ being a great example.

By the fifth album you’re at a point in your career where you have this momentum built up, and you have the expectancy of people depending on you, so you have to put something special in those many spotlights.

You need to step up and make a record that’s worth it and justifies all of these things.”

Ghost “Retire” Papa Emeritus III Onstage

Ghost finished off their “Meliora“/”Popestar” touring cycle in Gothenburg, SWE last night (September 30), and ended the show by “retiring” Papa Emeritus III. The singer was dragged off stage by men in suits, and the crowd was introduced to the elderly Papa Emeritus Zero, who said the following [translated from Italian]: “I am Papa Emeritus Zero. The party is over. The Middle Ages are starting now.” This is likely the precursor to Papa Emeritus IV, and the band’s new album, which is expected to be released in April 2018.
