Dance Gavin Dance, Chad Gray (Mudvayne, etc.), Volumes, Sabaton, Hot Mulligan, and Josey Scott (ex-Saliva) are the latest artists to be confirmed for this year’s Louder Than Life festival. That event will take place at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, KY on September 17-20 and it will also feature Iron Maiden, My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage, Jimmy Eat World, Ice Nine Kills, Bilmuri, President, Loathe, Bowling For Soup, Sleep Theory, Spite, Get Scared, Sunami, etc. Further artists are pending. The full lineup will be announced on February 23.

Mikael Åkerfeldt has revealed that he is working on another project outside Opeth. The frontman told Blabbermouth the following about that:

“I cannot say much, but I have a project that I’m doing in May. Hopefully, it will materialize, but I am doing something in May. That’s going to be fun. Then, I might have some projects as well, like, for me, not for the band. I’m a bit burned out, as you can probably tell. I would really need a break from the band and be regular Mikael, not band Mikael.”

Bassist Mike Leon Exits CKY

Mike Leon has announced his departure from CKY. The bassist claims he left due to “unprofessionalism” exhibited by guitarist/vocalist Chad I Ginsburg. However, Ginsburg claims he was fired.

Leon said the following:

“Hey everyone,

I want to let you know that my time with CKY has come to an end. Growing up, I was a huge fan of the band, and getting the opportunity to play with them was a dream come true. I genuinely enjoyed my time there, and it was fun… until it wasn’t.

For full transparency, I will not be participating in the band’s upcoming shows. As unfortunate as this is, given the circumstances, I believe this was the right move to make. The differences regarding logistics and business decisions, primarily driven by the actions of the band’s leader, created internal issues that made an already stressful environment increasingly difficult to work in.

This unprofessionalism and lack of accountability was known well before I joined, and persisted throughout my time with the band making day-to-day operations a constant challenge. The love I had for the band blinded me to the red flags my peers and the band’s previous history had warned me about, especially surrounding the frontman, yet I chose to believe things would be different.

In all of my years of working in this industry, I have never experienced this level of toxicity from an individual, and it stings extra having been perpetrated by the very band that first inspired me to start my career as a musician.

Music should be a source of joy, but the environment became a source of stress that ultimately outweighed the positive aspects of being part of the band I grew up loving.

I will continue creating music, and I sincerely thank all of you for your unconditional support.”

Ginsburg then responded:

“I don’t know what Mike Leon is talking about in his post, however, I do know the facts. And The facts are Mike — and you know them too — the facts are that we fired you last night because you hate dogs, and you didn’t want to tour with the dogs, and you wanted more money, and you weren’t happy with anything ever. So unfortunately it’s not working out Mike. But what you wrote is fucking crazy dude. Like prove any of that, fucking shit.”

He continued:

“Well hot dang, lots of bass players wanting to now play bass for CKY. Are you sure? We’ve had ove rnine I think. If you want to play base [sic] for CKY send a DM to @ckymusic”

He also added:

“don’t worry. BASS JOB fully covered for the upcoming tour

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Explains The Band’s Decision To Fire Drummer Josh Freese

During a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl explained the band’s decision to fire drummer Josh Freese. According to him, the group had a “great time” with Freese and the decision “didn’t happen overnight.”

Grohl further discussed the band’s time with Freese:

“In those six or seven months, as a band, we talked about what to do next, a new direction, and thought, ‘OK, let’s call Josh and let him know that we are going to move on with a different drummer.’”

“We called, as a band, all of us called, it wasn’t just me. Basically, we called Josh, and were like, ‘Hey man, that was awesome. That was such a blast, thank you so much, but we are going to move on and find another drummer.’

After that, we didn’t make a press release, tweet anything or do interviews. We didn’t say anything. Since then, there’s been a lot of talk about it, but I think Josh said it best when he said that he didn’t feel our music really resonated with him, and that’s really important.”
