• Watch Prototype Trailer for “Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior” Video Game

A new prototype trailer has been released for Chaosmonger Studio’s upcoming Voivod game, “Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior.” You can check that out below. The video game recently entered its full production phase following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The “retro-inspired action-adventure [is] set in the dystopian sci-fi universe of legendary metal band Voivod” and it will combine “fast-paced combat, deep exploration, and a twisted visual style drawn from Voivod’s iconic artwork and sound.” Nicola Piovesan, founder of Chaosmonger Studio, commented:

“Our goal is to make a game that feels like stepping inside a Voivod album cover. This new trailer captures the atmosphere and energy that define the band’s universe. It’s both a tribute and a continuation of their legacy.”

  • Paul Stanley On New KISS Music: “It’s Possible”

During a recent chat with TMZ, KISS frontman Paul Stanley sparked new music hopes once again. According to him, new material is “possible”

    Stanley said the following:

“It’s possible. It’s possible. Life’s full of surprises.”

He continued when asked about the vibe of the new music:

“I think we’d probably go for something that’s classic, but everything has to have a beat. You gotta be able to dance to it, but it should still be rock.”

He also added the following about lyrical content:

“Freedom, self-empowerment, enjoying life. That doesn’t change. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You’re supposed to enjoy your life, you’re supposed to do things your way. That’s timeless. That’s rock and roll.”

  • Forbidden Part Ways With Guitarist Daniel Mongrain

Forbidden have parted ways with guitarist Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain (Voivod). Jeremy Von Epp will be taking his place.

    Forbidden commented:

“Hey everybody, please help us welcome Jeremy Von Epp aboard as the new blood!

When we first approached Dan about playing guitar with us, Steve amicably left the band while we still had a full table of obligations ahead of us. Mongrain was our very first choice & he agreed almost without hesitation.

We all have deep respect for Dan and consider him one of the greatest guitarists in our Universe. To have him on stage with us was a dream come true. Chewy was a perfect fit. This being said, it was also on borrowed time due to his upcoming commitments with Voivod.

Still, we managed it and intended on Dan being a part of Forbidden’s new album as he’s already recorded & contributed to 3 songs.

The touring part was always going to be touch and go depending on our overlapping schedules. This issue first appeared at Aftershock in Sacramento and Grita in Colombia. We recruited Jeremy Von Epp and he stepped in like a champ!

Jeremy was a seamless transition that caught us by a very pleasant surprise, so much so that it made us rethink our short term and long term plans. It took Von Epp almost no time at all to learn our language and solos of three unbelievably great guitarists in Glen Alvelais, Tim Calvert, Smyth and Dan Mongrain. No small shoes to fill.

We got back from Colombia & reevaluated our situation. Jeremy needed to be in Forbidden full time & we all agreed. It made too much sense with the chemistry we have together.

Dan has been amazing, a great friend, player & now is like family to us. His contributions raised the bar of quality sky high. We are forever grateful for his genius and brilliant humor he shared over the last 1 1/2 years.

Thank you, Dan! Also a sincere thanks to the rest of Voivod for letting us borrow him from you, albeit temporary. Forbidden loves you all.

As we move into this era of Forbidden with Von Epp, we’re presently writing, recording & pre producing new material that will take us to another level.

There is much more exciting news that is just around the corner to share very soon!

    – Craig, Norm, Chris & Matt”

    Mongrain continued:

“When Craig Locicero called me to play in Forbidden, I accepted right away as I was already a fan and that we we’re friends since 2008 when we first met in Tokyo where we played on the same bill (Voivod, Forbidden). I never thought I would later play in the band live, touring and contributing on new songs. Life has great surprises.

From the start we all knew it would be quite a challenge for the schedule to fit with Voivod activities and my other bands. But we went for it, it worked for a while and it’s been great. I got to know Chris Kontos, Norman Skinner and Matt Camacho better, and along with Craig, we became brothers and troopers on the road.

I am honored and forever grateful to have been part of Forbidden, and tour the world together.

Unfortunately, teleportation and cloning is not a thing yet, schedules, distances and other factors are making it impossible to make it work on the long term. So I have to step down and pass the torch to the great Jeremy Van Epp who’s been killing it since the last couple shows as it was impossible for me to be there.

Love to all the Forbidden family & crew, friends, fans, all the people I met during this amazing journey, it was a great ride to say the least.

I embrace the memories and wish all the best to the mighty Forbidden in the years to come with a kick ass line-up!! They will blow your mind!!

    Peace and Health to everyone!!
    See you on tour!

    – Dan “Chewy” Mongrain”

    Von Epp added:

“When Craig called me a few months back with the prospect of helping them out as a stand in for Chewy, I was immediately interested. We have all been friends for years, and I’d been keeping up with them since their reformation, but after hearing the new song, “Divided By Zero” I was all in!

Learning the material was a challenge, but one that I quickly grew to enjoy. It’d been a long time since I played in a twin lead guitar thrash metal band, but I was excited about doing that again with Forbidden. The two shows I played with them in October, Aftershock festival and Grita festival in Colombia, both went really well and everything just clicked.

I look forward to being a part of the next chapter of Forbidden and I am beyond honored to carry the torch(s) for all the great guitarists who have carried it here before me. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to playing some badass Bay Area thrash metal again, now with these guys.

    LFG!

    – Jeremy Von Epp”

  • Converge Premiere “Love Is Not Enough” Music Video

Converge have shared an official video for the title track of their new album “Love Is Not Enough.” That effort will be released on February 13.

Frontman Jacob Bannon said the following about the single:

“[It] explores what it means to remain empathetic and compassionate in the modern world. A reckoning with who we are today and hope to be in the future – if we can fend off the scavengers.”

He also commented on the album:

“I think that realism is missing from a lot of modern music of any genre, but especially our genre. Things either go super raw and almost chaotic to the point where it’s distracting, or bands take the life out of what they’re doing by editing every aspect. Sometimes the perfect take is the one that has some wildness to it. It’s not perfectly executed. There’s a lot of powerful moments on this record and a lot of angry moments. The realism amplifies that.”

“It does a thing that no other Converge record does — it keeps ramping up. And that’s definitely by design. Internally, we passed around dozens of ideas for sequencing because everyone interprets music differently, and there’s no right way of doing it. When we do that, we always joke that we all have to be equally unhappy. But this is the one that works.”

“We still identify this band as the outlet that’s essential to our lives. We give everything we have to it. Being past your average middle age, we’re starting to see deeper than before into a variety of places. And I don’t think that’s specific to us. I think that’s something that’s utterly relatable.”

“Love Is Not Enough” Track Listing:

    01. “Love Is Not Enough”
    02. “Bad Faith”
    03. “Distract And Divide”
    04. “To Feel Something”
    05. “Beyond Repair”
    06. “Amon Amok”
    07. “Force Meets Presence”
    08. “Gilded Cage”
    09. “Make Me Forget You”
    10. “We Were Never The Same”

  • Type O Negative’s Johnny Kelly: “It’s Time To Do Something In Terms Of Celebrating Peter Steele’s Life And His Music”

During a recent interview with Sh!t Talk Reviews, Type O Negative’s Johnny Kelly was asked about the possibility of a Peter Steele tribute show. According to him, “it’s time to do something in terms of celebrating Peter’s life and his music.”

Kelly said the following about a tribute concert:

“Honestly, I really don’t know, ’cause what’s happening now is people are starting to approach us, saying, ‘Hey, have you thought about doing something?’ or, ‘Now may be a good time to do this,’ or, ‘It’s been 15 years. It’s time. You guys should do something.’ So we’re starting to get approached by people about doing something, but it isn’t something that we’ve been actively pursuing or having discussions about, where it’s, like, ‘All right, when are we gonna do this? How are we gonna do it? Who are we gonna do it with?’ None of that has come up. We’ve never discussed who would sing. That conversation has not happened.”

He continued when asked if the offers are welcome:

“Of course the curiosity’s there to see. Who knows? But, yeah, I think it’s time to do something in terms of celebrating Peter’s life and his music. You go online and you see a bunch of people, a bunch of haters and stuff, [saying stuff] like, ‘Oh, no. You can’t do it. No Peter, no TYPE O NEGATIVE.’ And then there’s other people who’ll, be like, ‘I’ll be there.’ And I’ve watched it with [the current touring lineup of] PANTERA, for instance. Everybody complained all the way to the arena. They bitched all the way to the arena.

We toured with PANTERA — we toured with PANTERA when they were at the height of their popularity, when the [classic] band was active — and to see what they’re doing [now]… I saw them play two months ago. They played in Dallas, and I went to the show, and all the touring that we did [with PANTERA], they never played rooms that big and sold them out like that. When we played with them, we played at Nassau Coliseum. And Nassau Coliseum was the smaller arena at the time, and it wasn’t sold out. And this was ‘Far Beyond Driven’ [era]. At the time, PANTERA was huge. But now they’re filling up sheds all over the place. And so I guess seeing the success that a lot of bands have had that don’t have all of the original members in them and stuff like that, of course TYPE O NEGATIVE is gonna get thrown into the conversation. Seeing it that now, that it works with all these other bands, everybody out there, the sharks are out there now saying, ‘Who else can we get? Who else can we resurrect?’”

On a related note, Kelly also addressed the status of the band’s upcoming live album:

“We were able to get our hands on a show. I just got a mix of one of the songs, just two or three weeks ago, to approve it. It was mixed and mastered, and we were gonna put it out with one label, and now I believe we’re doing it with Nuclear Blast. I’m not exactly sure when it’s coming out. Right now we’re going through the artwork and stuff like that, approving that kind of stuff.”
