Marduk’s Oakland, CA Show Cancelled “In The Interest Of Public Safety”

Marduk‘s show with Incantation and Svart Crown at the Oakland Metro Operahouse in Oakland, CA tonight (February 18) has been cancelled. The cancellation was due to apparent security concerns.

The venue posted the following:

“In the last week we have read interview after interview with Marduk spanning over the last 20 years and found no statements indicating the band are white supremacists, nationalists, or anti-immigrant. That being said, we don’t want to subject our security staff, venue staff or the public to violence.

Our staff is almost exclusively POC and/or LBGTQ and they have all expressed the desire to work, but as we are getting threats, we just can’t risk it. So, in the interest of safety, and because the Oakland Police Department would have insisted anyway, we have canceled the Marduk performance on Feb 18.

The Oakland Police Department has decided in the interest of public safety that the Marduk show on Saturday, February 18 at the Oakland Metro Operahouse be cancelled. Refunds at point of purchase. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

They also posted a screenshot of their chat with sergeant Andy McNeil of the Oakland Police Department:

Hate Eternal Drop Off Deicide, Svart Crown Etc. Tour

Hate Eternal have dropped off their tour with Deicide, Black Crown Initiate and Svart Crown, due to Eric Rutan injuring his hand. This is just the latest issue associated with this disastrous tour, which now seems to be cancelled. Other problems included: Lorna Shore’s recent departure, Entombed A.D’s expulsion, and Metal Alliance’s cancellation.

Hate Eternal had the following to say about Rutan’s hand:

“After last night’s set in Lubbock, Erik suffered an injury during load-out to his playing hand (left hand) that will cause Hate Eternal to miss tonight’s show in Austin. Sitting out tonight is not what we want to do, but it is at the behest of the ER doctor that saw him last night.

Hate Eternal is en route to Dallas now with the intent to play tomorrow. Erik will see another doctor in the am to have the injury treated and evaluated once again.”

They then offered the following update:

“Due to the nature of the injury and persistent swelling, the doctor has advised Erik to not use the hand at all for the next 4-5 days minimum. As such, this spells the end of the Deicide/Metal Alliance tour for Hate Eternal.

The immediate plan is to get back to Tampa and have Erik‘s hand reevaluated again, and figure out when he can play again.

Plans are in the works for a fall tour, and we’ll be doing our best to hit the places we’re missing this week. We’ll update you all on that just as soon as we have news.

Thank you all for your patience, understanding and well-wishes. We’re looking forward to seeing you all on the road again this fall.”
