• Sammy Hagar On David Lee Roth: “I Would Love To Be Friends”

As previously reported, David Lee Roth recently made headlines after seemingly poking fun at Sammy Hagar for claiming “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight” was created after the late great Eddie Van Halen visited him in a dream. However, Hagar initially referred to the comments as an “olive branch moment” and has since doubled down, saying he “would love to be friends with Dave.”

Roth initially said the following during an August 13 show at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, NH:

“One of my esteemed colleagues — he’s a contemporary, he’s got a great voice, he’s got a great catalog. You all know Sammy Hagar, right? He’s got a great voice. And Sammy, aloud, he described to the media about six weeks ago that the ghost of Eddie Van Halen visited him and graced him with a song that he memorized and then went home and recorded. It’s on the Internet.

I don’t know what the odds are, but last night the ghost of Eddie Van Halen visited me at the fucking hotel room. I was watching the weather report and he came in and he was laughing. His fucking ghost was laughing. I said, ‘What did you do now?’ He said, ‘Dave, Dave…’ Actually, you want me to do his accent? [Adopts Eddie’s accent] ‘Hey, Dave.’ He said, ‘Dave, you know that song I gave Hagar?’ I said, ‘What now?’ He said, ‘It’s actually [Iron Butterfly’s] ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’ backwards. Don’t fucking tell him.’ This all stays in this room, right? I laughed. We shared a ghost cigarette, a ghost Marlboro. Not one of those pussy-ass white ones, but the [Marlboro Reds]. And I hugged my brother Ed, and I said, ‘Man, do I fucking miss you.’ And he said, ‘I miss you too, Dave.’ He said, ‘But you know what? You should still go to hell.’ And I said, ‘Save me a seat.’”

For his part, Hagar responded with the following:

“I can’t believe social media is trying to make something out of this. This is the first compliment and real olive branch moment Dave and I have had in 100 years. Listen closely and you will see that this is not negative whatsoever. And I believe Dave had the dream as well. Dave’s a good storyteller, but there’s some truth in between the showmanship. All good with me. Keep it up, Dave. These songs we both wrote with Eddie need to be carried on forever.”

This leads us up to now with Hagar having explained his stance during an appearance on “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.” He said the following:

“Dave never does stuff like that. To me, it was, like, ‘Wow, Dave actually became cool for a minute about me,’ and I think him and I can be friends. Honestly, I would love to be friends with Dave. He is the wackiest guy. He would be a blast — in my opinion, he would be a blast to hang. Get on a boat and go cruising around in the islands or something with that guy and some of our friends and stuff.

We’ve got so much in common and so much history together, if you think about it. We both spent 10 years of our lives with VAN HALEN — Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen, right? I mean, we wrote songs with [Eddie]. There’s so much that we have in common. And we’re totally two different kinds of people, but that’s what makes it fun. The people around us would be having more fun.

But anyway, I just think he really did have that dream. And he’s a great storyteller. So the guy gets up there and tells his story a little bit more elaborate — ‘we smoked a Marlboro,’ a ghost cigarette together. He’s a good storyteller. And I just thought it was wonderful that he actually said, ‘You know Sammy Hagar. The guy’s got a great voice’ or something like that, he said, ‘and he’s got a good catalog.’ Whoa. Dave. Right on, brother.

I’ve got no problem with Dave and what he’s doing. I’ve said it to my publicist, to everyone, people always asking, ‘What do you think about this? Give me a comment about these people that are posting all this crazy stuff from his shows out there. What do you comment?’ I said, ‘I would never negative comment, man.’ The guy’s got the balls to go out there and do it and do it for the fans. He’s not doing it for money. Dave’s got plenty of money, for God’s sakes. Nobody in VAN HALEN’s broke. And he’s doing it ’cause he loves it. And he looks like he’s having a good time. He’s got a pretty damn good band, there ain’t no question about that. And the smartest thing — I even told him this; I sent him a note about it when we had that little Instagram comment thing — I sent him a personal note and said, ‘Hey, smartest thing you ever do is get them background singers.’ Those choruses in VAN HALEN are the most important part besides of Eddie’s guitar playing, some of the most important parts of that music to those fans. They love singing along to those songs. And you got those guys singing it, and they sound good singing it. And I think it was a good move. If he can’t do it, get somebody that can do it and just go out there and do your thing, whatever.

Anyway, I’m all cool with Dave. I just wanna make that straight and clear.”

    Bassist Steve Harris commented:

“We are all loving this ‘Run For Your Lives’ Tour. The fans have been amazing, the set list is perfect for the 50th Anniversary, the show is arguably our best ever and ticket demand was incredible with pretty much everywhere sold out and over a million fans attending. So we all thought we should play some more shows in Europe before heading out to other parts of the world later in the year.

Of course Simon Dawson will be joining us once again on the drummer’s stool, and both he and the whole band would like to thank our fans for the terrific reception you have given him on the first leg.

We’ve always enjoyed playing festivals, especially as we get to play to people who aren’t just there for us, and we love that challenge! So we decided to revisit as many great Metal festivals as we could get to in this period. Plus we will also get to play stadiums in Greece, Romania and Bulgaria where we didn’t get to this year and have always loved playing to the passionate fans out there.”

    Manager Rod Smallwood added:

“We were absolutely blown away by the overwhelmingly positive reaction of our fans and from across the mainstream media to the first leg of our ‘Run For Your Lives’ Tour. We knew we had created a special show, but the energy of all our fans at every single concert we played was picked up on by the band and I think we all experienced something really memorable, and arguably our best tour ever. Throughout our career festivals played a huge part, starting with Rock in Rio in 1985 of course, by enabling us to play in front of new fans and hopefully convert them to being Maiden fans, which, in the absence of radio or mainstream media helped enormously to increase our following. So this tour, based around most of Europe’s pre-eminent Metal fests, is also a huge thank you to those very festivals for playing such an important part in the fifty years… and counting… story of Iron Maiden.

Besides Eastern Europe we will also play some stadium shows in regions we missed in Germany (Hannover), France (Lyon-Décines) and Italy, the latter at Milan’s legendary San Siro Stadium, home of both AC and Inter Milan and we will, I am told, be the first ever Metal band to play there. It’s always great to break more new ground – even after all these years!!

You will note the schedule below just says UK SHOW for July 11th and there is a good reason for that! We are working on something special for our loyal UK fans including an extension of our Eddie’s Dive Bar concept we launched last year… so watch this space!

Fans will also notice we will play Paris La Défense Arena again on Mon June 22nd after already playing two sold out nights there this year to 75,000 fans… but there is good reason for that!

Yes, we know you have been asking, so we are going to film this special show for you and for posterity! We chose an indoor stadium to see the best of the production and also a great audience which we know Paris is and always has been for us. So we decided to return to Paris and hope fans there still want to see us! This will be our 31st show ever in Paris, it’s always been a bit special since we first visited there with KISS back in 1980!

Finally it was really special to see that the vast majority of our fans appreciated and respected our request to severely limit their use of phones at our concerts, ideally just keeping it in their pockets the whole time, especially in those standing areas in front of the stage. There were exceptions in a couple of places sadly but overall our fans’ understanding and cooperation made a colossal difference to the atmosphere of every show and increased the enjoyment enormously for the band and fans alike.

While we encourage our fans to follow this again at all our shows in 2026, in Paris specifically, we will be working with Yondr the company that creates phone free spaces where fans are given a secure locked pouch which allows you to keep your phone on you at all times. They will facilitate this process ultimately for the benefit of you, our wonderful fans and I am sure that, like all of us, you do not want to watch the resulting film seeing banks of phone screens in the shot. Therefore, to help our film crew, we will make the huge floor at La Défense completely Yondr phone free so we can ensure the show – and of course all of you in the crowd – look as phenomenal as possible on camera!

In the rest of the venue we are requesting that fans once again keep their phones in their pockets and enjoy the show ‘in the moment’, rather than raise their phone in the air trying to film sections and thus inconveniencing those around them. So if a so-called fan near you thinks they are special and filming what they selfishly want please just ask them, very politely of course, to put their phone somewhere the sun doesn’t shine!

And, as I mentioned before, for all our fans outside Europe, we most definitely have not forgotten you and have some big announcements coming later for 2026. Rest assured we will be visiting as many of you as possible next year, before the band take a well-earned break from the road in 2027.”

  • Varials Premiere “I’ll Find The Dark” Video

Varials have premiered a new video for their new song “I’ll Find The Dark.” The track is the band’s first to feature new vocalist Skyler Conder (CELL). According to him, the single is about “ending it all abruptly.” He continued:

“‘I’ll Find the Dark’ lyrically tries to captivate the overall theme of being consumed by pain throughout existence. The idea was for the instruments to be just as aggressive as the vocals and lyrics of the song itself. The track tries to express the emotional distress of feeling lost within yourself, being terrified of existence and living, as well as trying to overcome some sense of grief and heartache.”

    Guitarist Shane Lyon added:

“The idea was to build a wall of sound that suffocates the listener.”

Full Of Hell will be missing several dates on their current tour with Cannibal Corpse, Municipal Waste, and Fulci. The band are sitting out the shows due to the recent passing of vocalist Dylan Walker’s father. Walker commented:

“Hey everybody, this is Dylan. A couple of hours after we arrived for our first show of tour I received the news that my dad had died. I’m going to travel home to be with my family in a few days, which means Full of Hell will not be performing in Buffalo or Cleveland. I apologize if you were looking forward to seeing us. I’ve written about my dad a lot in this band. He spent his entire life suffering under a cloud of depression and nursed it with alcohol until he simply couldn’t live without it. In many ways, I’ve been grieving him for a very long time. Existence is pain, but existence is all we have. I was grateful to be able to get on stage with my brothers and sing about him in Nashville. As always, thank you for the support and understanding. Hug your dad. See you down the road x”
