Acres have shared a new cover of HIM’s “Buried Alive By Love.” You can check that out below. The track is from the new deluxe edition of “The Host,” which will be released on November 6.
Vocalist Ben Lumber commented on the cover:
“When we were planning a cover, HIM were instantly the first band that came to mind. They’ve been such a huge part of my life and honestly one of the main reasons I ever wanted to be in a band. When I was younger, my friends and I would spend hours in the garage learning and playing HIM songs so getting to bring ‘Buried Alive By Love‘ into the world of Acres all these years later feels like a proper full circle moment. It’s our way of paying respect to a band that had a massive part in shaping who I am as a musician.”
He also added the following about the album:
“‘The Host‘ has always felt closely connected to the ‘What It’s Like to Feel Worthless‘ EP, so doing a deluxe version felt like the perfect way to bring those two worlds together and close out this era of the band. We loved the idea of putting everything into one record, but also giving people something new with the additional tracks and different versions of songs.
We’ve always been into reworking our music whether that’s stripping a song back, a live version, or letting it exist in a completely different way. Gordon “Kaelin” McIntyre (Ex-CDC) Passes Away
Former CDC vocalist Gordon “Kaelin” McIntyre has sadly passed away. The news was confirmed by Kurt Fowles. However, a cause of death is still pending.
Fowles said the following:
“I don’t even know what to say. I honestly can’t believe this is real.
Kaelin wasn’t just a friend. For more than 20 years, we lived a lifetime of memories together. We traveled the entire world, shared beds, shared stages, shared countless crazy nights, and were there for each other through some of the biggest moments of our lives.
So much of my life is tied to memories with Kael. There are places I’ve been, things I’ve experienced, and moments I’ll never forget because he was there.
It’s impossible to process that someone who was such a huge part of my life is suddenly gone. I keep thinking about all the memories, all the laughs, all the miles, and everything we experienced together.
I can’t believe you’re gone, Kael.
Rest easy, brother. I’ll carry those memories with me for the rest of my life.
RIP Kael.”

Absolute Power Recruit Tim “Ripper” Owens For New Song “Needs Must When The Devil Drives”
Absolute Power, the project featuring Shane Embury (Napalm Death) and Simon Efemey, have recruited Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest, etc.) for a new single titled “Needs Must When The Devil Drives.” That song serves as the title track of the band’s new album, which will be released on November 6.
Embury said the following about the single:
“This song, whilst being title track of our new record, also talks about how both Simon and I grew up in the West Midlands listening to heavy metal of 1980s — all the classics as you would expect,” Shane explains. “The areas where we both came from were very much industrial areas. Working-class families and for us, as teenagers, heavy metal was our escape from the everyday realities of our areas — you did what you had to just to get by. Needs must when the devil drives!”
Efemey also commented on the album:
“I want people to have a good time in the old school way. I want them to forget the mundane, boring or horrible parts of their jobs. I want them to forget themselves for a couple of hours. That’s what good music should allow us all to do.
When we did the first album, we wanted to make songs like our heroes — Judas Priest, Saxon, the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal — everything we liked as kids. When we were on tour buses, we’d have a few drinks and start blasting old-school heavy metal like Black Sabbath or Dio. One day we said we should write our own tunes like that.”
He went on to reveal that Mark Gemini Thwaite (ex-The Mission) contributed to the record:
“I’ve known him for years. I recorded a demo for his old band years ago. I sent him some tracks and he put some magic on them. He added a little goth flavour to some of those tracks. It took it further than the first album, which was just straight-down-the-line traditional metal.”
He also added:
“Over the years [me and Embury’s] paths crossed, and we realized we had a similar love for music and a similar sense of humor — ‘Monty Python’, ‘The Young Ones’, really dark humor.
You hear the stories from back in the day about these legendary bands and the mad stuff they’d get up to. For me, that’s part of rock ‘n’ roll. I never wanted to just be the guy sitting there in the studio nodding along with what bands say. It was more about entertaining people and entertaining ourselves.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’re serious about the music. We reject ideas that aren’t good enough. Every song needs a good riff and a catchy melody. I wouldn’t let anything go out that was just fodder. That approach has always been prevalent in my work.
I can’t think of many new British bands doing what we do. I think people like our stuff because it’s old-school with melodies you can sing along to. We use the formula from the 70s and 80s because we know it works. We make this kind of music because we love it and we want people to sing along with us.”

Initiate Have Changed Their “With Love // With Rage” Cover Art Due To A Copyright Issue
Initiate have shared updated artwork for their latest EP “With Love // With Rage.” The cover for the effort was changed following a copyright issue.
The band commented:
“We recently discovered a copyright issue with the EP artwork, so we needed a new cover that could carry the same message and meaning. It was important to us that we worked with someone we trusted, and Kiabad [Meza] was the first person who came to mind.
Kiabad has been a close friend and creative partner since day one, creating so much of the artwork that’s helped shape this band over the years. We’re incredibly grateful that he stepped in and brought his own vision to this piece while still honoring the heart of the original.
We’re so excited to share his take on With Love // With Rage and can’t thank him enough for his friendship, support, and talent. It means a lot to have someone who’s been part of this journey from the very beginning continue to leave their mark on it”

Mastodon Sued By The Estate Of The Late Brent Hinds
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mastodon have been hit with a new lawsuit from the estate of the late Brent Hinds. The filing was related to the guitarist’s ownership interests and the use of his likeness following his death.
The complaint claims Hinds still had a share of the band and related businesses following his 2025 exit. The group were planning to buy him out, but he died before the deal was complete. The estate say they were given an $80,000 check. However, Mastodon failed to explain how they arrived at that number.
The lawsuit went on to allege that Mastodon used an image of Hinds for the artwork on their latest album “Marrow Deep.” As such, the estate also wants to be compensated for the use of his likeness.
Furthermore, ths estate also lamented the way the band discussed Hinds following his death. This includes private matters such as substance abuse issues, which reportedly played a role in his firing.

William Shatner Says His Metal Album Will Be Called “What The F Is Heavy Metal?”
During an interview with The Moynihan Report, William Shatner (“Star Trek”, etc.) discussed his upcoming heavy metal album. He also revealed that the effort will be called “What The F Is Heavy Metal?.”
Shatner said the following:
“I am in a fervor of creativity. I am writing books. I’m doing albums. This heavy metal album is like… They want me to do… I’m gonna do a concert. I’m gonna do 30-minute concert — 30 minutes of heavy metal [laughs], with a band. 30 minutes on stage.”
He continued:
“Cleopatra, the label that I work with frequently, said to me, ‘Why don’t you do a heavy metal album?’ And I said, ‘What the F is heavy metal?’ Then I heard ‘Patience’, the song ‘Patience’ [by Guns N’ Roses]. So we write a song called ‘Impatience’. ‘I’m not gonna wait around for you. I’m not waiting for you. Here, read my lips.’ And it’s all about, ‘I’m not waiting around for you. Yeah. You hear me? You hear my lips? I’m not waiting.’ And it’s got that kind of rage and tempo… Impassioned. ‘I’m tired of old age. I’m tired of losing hair. I’m tired of not eating. I’m tired of catching a cold. I’m tired of being tired. I’m tired!’”
He also added:
“The music is a distillation of emotion. It’s so right there.”
He went on to unveil the title:
“The name of the album — I hope; I mean, everybody agrees —is ‘What The F Is Heavy Metal?’ That’s the name of the album.”
He also revealed that he knew “nothing” about heavy metal before pursuing this project:
“You gotta start with the premise that I really know nothing,” he said. “I’m inquisitive. Apparently, I’m inquisitive, and I’m reading and looking up all the time, stuff. So I began to experiment. I fastened on to emotions. I thought heavy metal has gotta be about emotions — violent, passionate… Not violent — passionate emotions. ‘The Black Sky’ is about what we’re doing to the planet. ‘Impatience’ — don’t keep me waiting. ‘Rage’. Five songs with meaning to me. I’m enraged, I’m angry about, I am disgusted with.”
He also confirmed that he still has rage at his age:
“Oh, yeah. I wanna get on my horse and run the way I used to. My legs don’t have the strength that they once had, so I’m careful. I don’t wanna be careful. These albums that I have written with Rob [Shatner’s longtime friend and collaborator Robert Sharenow] are all personal. They all have to do with my growth.”
He also added the following when asked if there are any metal artists he likes:
“I don’t know. ‘Cause I don’t know their names. Brian May plucks an anguished guitar. It’s crazed. And it moves me. There are 50 well-known heavy metal geniuses who wanna be on the album, led by Brian May. Why? Brian May laid his track down over a song that Rob [Sharenow] and I wrote called ‘Rage’. ‘Rage against the dying of the light,’ to use that — what’s his name’s phrase. That’s the name of the song, and we’ll make it into a music video.”
