According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mastodon have been hit with a new lawsuit from the estate of the late Brent Hinds. The filing was related to the guitarist’s ownership interests and the use of his likeness following his death.
The complaint claims Hinds still had a share of the band and related businesses following his 2025 exit. The group were planning to buy him out, but he died before the deal was complete. The estate say they were given an $80,000 check. However, Mastodon failed to explain how they arrived at that number.
The lawsuit went on to allege that Mastodon used an image of Hinds for the artwork on their latest album “Marrow Deep.” As such, the estate also wants to be compensated for the use of his likeness.
Furthermore, ths estate also lamented the way the band discussed Hinds following his death. This includes private matters such as substance abuse issues, which reportedly played a role in his firing.
