Guitarist Olly Steele Exits Monuments

Guitarist Olly Steele has announced his departure from Monuments. A replacement has yet to be announced.

The band commented:

“With a heavy heart, today we announce that Olly Steele is stepping away from Monuments.

You can read Ollys statement below.

We’re also releasing a limited batch of 8-bit style t-shirts & posters, to commemorate the end of this form of our line-up. These can be ordered from our website thisismonuments.co

All profits will go to mind.org.uk to support those in need of mental health support.”

Steele added:

“What’s cracking. I’m stepping down from Monuments.

It’s been ten incredible years of highs and lows and I’m extremely grateful for the entire experience.

It’s been a huge part of my life and many of the amazing memories and interactions will stay with me forever.

I’ve been around the world a good few times and met so many inspiring people and learned so much.
You can’t buy that shit.

Monuments is an amazing opportunity with some amazing players but ultimately at this point in my life I feel like I’ve had the experience and I’ve said what I am able to say musically with the group.

Monuments deserve someone who is inspired and driven and I can’t offer that like I did when I was 19 so I’m making the move.

I’m still gonna make music and continue with my current projects and collabs, with the initial focus being more solo music.

After that who knows, the endless possibilities are really exciting.

Huge thanks to the boys for being there whilst we achieved so many great things together.

And special thanks to the band for rolling the dice on a little raw mouthy teen with basically only potential to offer.

Like everyone else I’m more than excited to see what Monuments do next. I was a fan first and now I’m a fan again. Thanks to everyone who supported in whatever way that may have manifested, none of this could have happened without the people behind us.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before you hear from me again.

Till then take care, much love and thank you.

– Olly”

Hellfest organizers commented:

“Hellbangers,

What can we say except that we are proud (and excited) to finally unveil the long-awaited line up of our anniversary edition! Keeping such a line up as a secret for several weeks has been no easy task, especially in the last few days…

It’s been more than 16 months since our work rhythm was turned upside down by the arrival of this virus, since the live music industry was extinguished. Despite this, our confidence has never been affected and we have kept working with a positive mindset.

The frustration of two years without a festival has led us to dream even bigger about our reunion! In 2022, we are offering a new and unique format spread over 10 days! Never done before, this formula will, without a doubt, remain in the history of so-called “extreme” music! Twice as historic, because this formula is meant to exist only in 2022 and will not happen again in the years to come.

After a first weekend from 17 to 19th June 2022, we double the fun with an additional weekend from 23rd to 26th June! A real marathon that will see no less than 350 artists on 6 stages!

As usual, the festival does not deviate from its principles: you will see artists capable of performing in stadiums, with artists who are usually playing in smaller venues, and for some even in pub caves. Punk, Heavy, Black, Hardcore, Death, Stoner, Pagan, Power, we have done our best to put together what we believe to be the “edition of the century”.

No need to list the program in detail as you are not, and for the second year, headbanging at the festival right now. You can find out all this by yourself, at home or with your friends, enjoying our virtual edition “Hellfest From Home“! (More information over here : fromhome.hellfest.fr)

This exceptional edition is also an opportunity for us to thank the pass holders who have been waiting for more than 2 years. Your loyalty and trust have kept us going and we do not have enough words to thank you. It seemed fair to us that you should access the ticket sale 24 hours before the public sale in order for you to obtain your ticket for sure.

We are aware that some of you, for professional, family or simply financial reasons, will not be able to attend this XXL edition. By going through (and only through!) our partner TICKETSWAP (please stop Viagogo and others…), you will be able to resell your pass for the weekend you are the least interested in, and thus make one more happy fan!

For all the others who will have the chance to live these 10 days of anthology with us, we promise that you will remember our reunion! As a bonus, we might even make you a nice “FINISHER” t-shirt so that this moment will remain engraved forever in your memories. Once in a lifetime celebration!

Last but not least, we could not finish without thanking all those who have supported us during these last months. Volunteers, intermittents, sponsors, service providers, media partners, people from Clisson, we are all eager to see you again and to live with you this future adventure, which promises to be historic!

Stay Strong. Stay Safe.

Monuments Premiere New Song “Deadnest”

Monuments have premiered a new song titled “Deadnest.” You can check that out below:

Guitarist Olly Steele commented:

“Our last release ‘Animus’ focused on pop/melody so I wanted to contrast this with darker, lower, aggressive and abrasive moments for ‘Deadnest’. Maintaining energy and momentum throughout was definitely a goal. I tried to keep myself in the headspace of a young hungry kid with a lot to prove which I believe is reflected in the technicality of the song. It has a major/minor feel, playing with happy and uplifting passages but also sad sounds that paint despair and take away any hope. It was inspired by a level in a video game – a nasty dark place that had no light and is completely jagged and uninhabitable, yet many creatures still called this place home. I found that real life has many parallels with this – sometimes the place where you are meant to feel safe doesn’t provide that for you at all. Another example is with fear, anxiety and paranoia – these things inhabit you, sometimes physically, but always mentally. How can you escape your own mind and how can you fight something that is internal? The lyrical concepts perfectly aligned, and ‘Deadnest’ was born.”

Monuments Postpone North American Tour

Monuments have postponed their North American tour with Skyharbor and Vespera due to the coronavirus pandemic. The shows will be rescheduled at a later date.

Monuments commented:

“It is with a heavy heart that we must postpone our upcoming US tour.

Given the pandemic and it’s circumstances, we just can’t make this tour happen from either a logistical or safety perspective.

We will update everyone with new dates in the coming months, once it is apparent that it is safe to gather again, we will bring this tour to you!

Refunds will be available from point of purchase, but we ask you please to consider holding on to them, as they will be valid for our rebooked shows. This will help mitigate the difficulties for all of the amazing promoters and our agency who have worked so hard to make this tour happen.

We can’t wait to groove with you in the near future.

Stay safe,
-Ments”

Monuments Premiere “Animus” Music Video

Monuments have premiered a new video for their new song “Animus.“ Frontman Andy Cizek commented:

“Hey Y’all’, We’re excited to show you our new track ‘Animus‘. Lyrically, this song explores overcoming anxiety. Embracing your burdens and letting them flourish into a positive driving force. Thus, these demons became my ‘Animus‘. Thanks for listening.”

Drummer Mike Malyan Rejoins Monuments

Monuments have officially welcomed Mike Malyan back to the band. The drummer originally left the group in 2015 due to back and shoulder injuries.

Monuments commented:

“Fans,

We’re beyond excited to welcome Mike Malyan back to MONUMENTS as our full time drummer.

After 5 years of injuries, leading to surgery and physical therapy he was thankfully able to fully recover and get his ass behind the kit again… exactly where he belongs!

We’d like to thank Daniel Lang (Lango) for the years he put into this band. We played some of our biggest shows together during this time period and created some beautiful memories. Check out his other band ‘The Scratch’ if you like your music Irish. You’ll do nuthin.

We’re now deep into writing MONUMENTS IV and have tour dates lined up in Europe and the United States.

Again, put your hands together for the one and only, words McGee himself, Michael Malyan!

Bless Bless
