• Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx: “I Don’t Believe In Making Full-Length Records Anymore”

During an appearance on Joann Butler In Studio With…, Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx expressed a lack of interest in recording full-length albums. The bassist says he would rather focus on singles.

    Sixx said the following:

“Honestly — I know fans don’t wanna hear this, but I don’t believe in making full-length records anymore at this time on the planet, for me. The amount of work that goes into… If you’re doing 10 songs on a record, you gotta write 20. And you better hope five of ’em are stellar. It’s a lot of lyrics, a lot of notes, a lot of chord changes, a lot of time in the studio, which is all fine. That’s what we do. We work hard. But what I don’t like is that when people hear one song, and you recorded 10 or you recorded 20, and then 10 of ’em were demos and 10 was an album, they only hear one. Radio’s changed, streaming is changing and evolving as we go. So I’m really into the idea of lightning strikes, something comes down, I call the guys. I got this song, it’s just sitting on the tip of my tongue right now. I told Tommy [Lee] about it a year ago. I just told my friend, and he goes, ‘You told me to write a song called that 25 years ago.’ And I go, ‘Okay, I’m gonna finish the song and then show it to the band.’ But it’s like having a song and a whole team behind a song and being able to get the fans to really understand what the song is about. It’s just not something that they just pass by, or they go to the new Mötley Crüe album, and they only listen to one song. So I love the idea of like we did ‘The Dirt’ [film soundtrack in 2019]. We did five [new] songs from ‘The Dirt’. We did three songs on this EP [‘Cancelled’] we just did [in 2024]. I mean, that’s already a full-length record. So I think we’re just gonna keep going, like whenever something comes up, you feel something — heartbreak, joy, rebellion — let’s write a song about it, and let’s go cut it in the studio.”

  • Five Finger Death Punch Bassist Chris Kael: “Against Phil Labonte From All That Remains’ Advice, I Actually Go To Therapy”

During a new episode of the “Beardo & Weirdo” podcast, Five Finger Death Punch bassist Chris Kael and comedian Craig Gass discussed recent claims from All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte, who believes “therapy is for women.” For his part, Kael has actually been undergoing therapy himself.

    Kael said the following:

“Against Phil Labonte from All That Remains’ advice, I actually go to therapy.”

Gass went on to say that Labonte’s comment is “one of the dumbest fucking things [he’s] ever heard.”

    Kael then added:

“I understand what he’s saying, though. There’s some truth in there… He basically said that men don’t need therapy. We need to take action. We get our good feelings in life from doing. Which is true, but he’s telling this in an interview. The interview — you’re talking about feelings and whatnot. You’re doing therapy in that interview. You’re not going to a therapist.

So, it has definitely helped me out, with therapy, going in… It’s almost like a meditative thing for me. I’m taking a pause from everything else going on in the world. I’m focusing on me, making plans for the future, talking about things that upset me. And not for nothing, I’m clearly still very angry. So, channel that stuff into music. And even it gives me song ideas a couple times, really opening up and being vulnerable about stuff, and, like, ‘Oh, there’s a song idea.’”

He also explained how heavy music helps him:

“It’s a simmering rage in there all the time. I don’t know where it comes from. But we were talking to Frank Bello [of Anthrax on this podcast] just the other day, and he was talking about this music being an outlet for that sort of stuff. God bless music for you all for keeping me sane. [Laughs]”

  • The Pineapple Thief Announce New Album “Far And Wide”

The Pineapple Thief have announced a new album titled “Far And Wide.” The effort will be released on October 9 and a video for its opening track, “New World Order,” can be found below:

    “Far And Wide” Track Listing:

    01. “New World Order”
    02. “Hold The Ashes”
    03. “Still Living”
    04. “God Knows”
    05. “The Empty Space”
    06. “Scattering Like Flies”
    07. “Through The Noise”
    08. “Who Wants It”
    09. “No Exceptions”

    Frontman Bruce Soord commented:

“We realized, for instance, that you don’t need more than two guitar parts at any one time. You know, ‘why have we got four or five guitars? Why have we got six-part harmonies when there’s only three of us singing?’ We deliberately created those constraints, because we thought, ‘we’re a rock band, there’s five of us on stage, this is what we should be about in the studio.’”

    Drummer Gavin Harrison added:

“You do start to imagine what a song would look like on a stage, and sometimes that does influence the arrangement. Like, ‘this would be amazing live when we do this, if this section just went into this other thing’, and you can picture it with the lights and the atmosphere on stage.”
