Back in December 2018, Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien was arrested for burglary with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer as his Northdale, FL home was burning with tons of weapons, locked safes, and potentially explosive devices inside. Despite this, it looks like the band are still hoping that he will return one day. Frontman George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher recently discussed the incident on “The Jasta Show” and had the following to say:
“We love him,. We want him back. But when I saw him in the court with the [anti-suicide] vest, dude, I cried. Because we just got home from tour… We wish the best for him, and we’re just waiting to see [what happens]. He’s got a road ahead of him still with legal issues, and that’s out of our hands. We support him 100 percent; we’re behind him 100 percent.”
Cannibal Corpse have premiered a new video for the title track of their latest album “Red Before Black.“ The clip was directed by Doug Sakmann and it stars adult performers Nadia White and Talia Satana, as well as Sonja Century, Kim Reo, and Alex Webster.

Cannibal Corpse have recruited guitarist Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal) for their upcoming tours. He will be filling in for Pat O’Brien, who was arrested on December 10, 2018 for burglary with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer as his Northdale, FL home was burning. O’Brien has since been released and the band have said he is “getting the help he needs.”
The group commented:
“Cannibal Corpse have announced that Erik Rutan will fill in for guitarist Pat O’Brien as O’Brien tends to personal issues. Rutan will appear live with the band for the Decibel Magazine Tour and the upcoming US leg of Slayer‘s final tour happening this May alongside Slayer, Lamb of God, and Amon Amarth.
This won’t be the first time these death metal powerhouses have worked together; Rutan has produced four albums with Cannibal Corpse (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture, Red Before Black) and is uniquely equipped to fill the role – he is one of the death metal’s most acclaimed guitarists and is known for his time as part of Morbid Angel (who are co headlining the Decibel tour alongside Cannibal) throughout the 90s and early 2000s, as well as handling vocals/guitars and production duties for his current band Hate Eternal.”
Cannibal Corpse have now commented on Pat O’Brien’s December 10 arrest. The guitarist was arrested for burglary with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer as his Northdale, FL home was burning.
The band said the following:
“As a band and as individuals, we all want nothing but the best for our brother and partner, Pat. While we can offer no further information about the incident, we wanted everyone to know that Pat is getting the help he needs and appreciates the love and support from Cannibal Corpse fans around the world.
Pat is currently with family and friends and looks forward to a healthy return at some point. For anyone wondering, all Cannibal Corpse touring will happen as planned and all shows will be played.”
The musician reportedly called relatives to tell them that “the rapture” was coming and that “aliens have landed” before breaking into a Northdale home at around 6:57 PM while two people were inside. After he was told to leave, he pushed down a woman and ran into the backyard. One of the residents said he seemed to be hallucinating and that he spoke of “the rapture” to him as well. O’Brien also claimed “someone was after him” and even tried to hide in the closet.
Authorities found him hiding near a fence and they used an electronic control device to disarm him after he ran towards a deputy with a knife.
O’Brien‘s Northdale home was also on fire at the time of the incident. Hillsborough County firefighters had a hard time putting out the blaze due to exploding ammunition. Fire marshals found a ton of weapons, locked safes, and potentially explosive devices inside the house. In fact, the stockpile was so large that ATF agents were sent to look through the wreckage after the fire was out. The guitarist was apparently trying to get away from his burning house when responders arrived. He was arrested less than .5 miles away.
Neighbors say O’Brien was an “avid gun collector” and that he did not appear to show signs of odd behavior prior to the incident.
O’Brien made his first court appearance on December 11 and he was wearing an anti-suicide vest with his hands and feet restrained. The judge originally denied him bail until a drug test was conducted, but the musician ended up getting released from Hillsborough County jail on December 14 after posting a $50,000 surety bond.
Deana Mazurkiewicz, wife of O’Brien‘s Cannibal Corpse bandmate Paul Mazurkiewicz, has since launched a crowdfunding campaign for him.
