Fates Warning Singer Ray Alder Reunites With Former Drummer Mark Zonder In A-Z

Fates Warning singer Ray Alder has reunited with the band’s former drummer Mark Zonder for a new project called A-Z. The group, which also features bassist Philip Bynoe (Warlord, Steve Vai), guitarist Joop Wolters (Steve Walsh, Simon Phillips), and keyboardist Vivien Lalu (Steve Walsh, Jordan Rudess), have already signed a deal with Metal Blade Records. Zonder commented:

“When we were looking for a deal, Metal Blade was number one on the list. First worked with Brian Slagel about 40 years with ‘Metal Massacre II’ and Warlord. No question that they do a great job and we are very excited and proud to be back at MB.”

Entheos Sign Worldwide Deal With Metal Blade Records

Entheos, the band featuring Navene Koperweis (ex-Animals As Leaders) and Chaney Crabb, have signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records. The duo’s new album will be released through the label in 2022.

The band commented:

“We are incredibly excited to announce that we have signed with Metal Blade Records. Metal Blade is a pillar in the metal community and consistently releases music from many of the world’s greatest bands. We are proud to be associated with such a label and look forward to our future working together.”

They also added the following about working as a duo:

“We respect each other greatly – not only as artists, but as people. Our relationship and the mutual passion that we have for Entheos has consistently been the backbone of this band. We share a vision that we are unwilling to compromise – in music, art, live shows and beyond.

Having been together romantically for ten years, we are very aware of how to play to each other’s strengths. In the creative process, we don’t just write for the sake of our own voice being heard, but what would complement both of our musical voices and vision.

We don’t want anything about this project to be an afterthought, so in the creative and planning stages, it is crucial for us to see it together as a whole and understand how we both fit in.”

“We took the pandemic as an opportunity to reimagine every aspect of the band and plan on re-emerging stronger and more focused than ever with a new release. With this record, we are pushing beyond the boundaries of what we believe this band is.

It is by far the heaviest and fastest record we’ve made, while simultaneously being the most dynamic and diverse showcase of genre-bending musicianship, melody and progressive themes. We are also more focused than ever on vocal performance, and Chaney will be incorporating pitched screaming and singing along with a more diverse metal vocal range.”

“Six years, two albums and many tours later, it is just the two of us, and we want to prove that the heart and soul of Entheos is not only far from gone, but that in this iteration, we can still deliver the best and most passionate release that we have created.”

“It was an extreme honor to be called upon to help curate an installment of the truly transformative Metal Massacre series. Rather than concentrate on one particular era or style, I dutifully attempted to bring the best sub-genres metal has produced over the past 40 years into a cohesive portrait of what today’s underground metal scene faithfully represents. May it, Metal Blade Records and Metal Massacre forever reign.”

Metal Blade Records To Release Retrospective Vinyl Set “The Story Of Metal Blade”

Metal Blade Records have announced that they will be releasing a retrospective vinyl box set, titled “The Story Of Metal Blade,” in May. The limited edition set will feature eight albums from the label’s history, a podcast series, deluxe liner notes, and a photo booklet. Pre-orders can be found HERE.

Courtney Catagnus, Sr Director, Business Development & Partnerships, VMP, commented:

“In the 80’s, when Brian Slagel released Metal Massacre – the inaugural Metal Blade compilation that featured a little local band called Metallica – he altered the course of music history as we know it. So, there was a resounding ‘hell yes’ from the VMP team to partner with Metal Blade to release our first-ever heavy music Anthology. In true Anthology form, we brought in the connoisseurs of the genre to guide us through the history of the label, as told through these eight key albums from Metal Blade, with guidance from legendary magazine, Revolver. We’re so proud to bring you this next chapter in our Anthology series and can’t wait to dive in together to unpack the rich history and influence of Metal Blade.”

Wake Sign With Metal Blade Records

Wake have signed a new deal with Metal Blade Records and are planning to enter the studio in July to record a new album with producer Dave Otero. The band commented:

“All of us in Wake have had a lot of regard both for Metal Blade and for the bands on its roster from any era. An endless stream of Metal Blade artists have been played in our van during any number of tours. For us, playing music has always been something that we’ve tried to do on our own terms and with our own vision. We’ve explored a lot of ground musically, and that was influenced by the history that Metal Blade was there to write. So, we’re very excited to say that we’ve joined up with Metal Blade. Expect a lot more noise from our camp in the near future.”
