  • Sharon Osbourne Settles Legal Dispute With Original Black Sabbath Manager Jim Simpson Over Unreleased Earth Demos

    Late last year, Ozzy Osbourne’s widow and manager Sharon Osbourne called out Black Sabbath’s original manager Jim Simpson for allegedly trying to profit off of unreleased demos from the band’s pre-Black Sabbath project Earth. However, it appears they have since settled their legal dispute.

    Sharon said the following during a recent appearance on “The Osbournes” podcast:

    “We settled with Jim Simpson and the band now have their demos back. And all four of them [the original members of Black Sabbath] own it, which is where it should be. All of that stuff should be theirs. So it all ended well. So, yeah, they own them. We’re gonna talk about what everybody wants to do with it, and we’ll go from there.”

    She went on to say that the Earth demos were “very different” from Black Sabbath:

    “I just think it’s historically important — for music lovers of that genre. And then we got [the rights to] the pictures that were taken at that time too. So, that is all so important. I mean, listen, you [Jack Osbourne] want those pictures. Everybody in the band’s kids and grandkids would love to see [them]… It’s special. And I’m just happy that it’s where it should be — with the band, and [they can decide] what they wanna do as a band, what they’re gonna do with it. So that’s great.”

    Sharon also thanked Simpson for settling:

    “He did the right thing at the end of the day. He did the right thing for the band.”

  • Metallica Pay Tribute To Late San Francisco Symphony Leader Michael Tilson Thomas

    Metallica have shared a tribute for San Francisco Symphony leader Michael Tilson Thomas, who recently passed away after being diagnosed with a brain tumor five years ago. The band collaborated with the conductor during their 2019 “S&M2” shows at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

    Metallica said the following:

    “It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. A towering figure in classical music, many of you became familiar with the man known as MTT when he worked with us as a major driving force in the development and live performances of the ‘S&M2’ shows in San Francisco in September of 2019.

    MTT was more than a conductor; an accomplished pianist and composer, he served as the San Francisco Symphony’s musical director for 25 years. During his time with the orchestra, he brought innovation, experimentation, and community engagement to San Francisco. He fostered contemporary music by forming relationships with living composers and creating fresh accounts of standard repertory. Throughout his career, he earned 12 Grammy Awards.

    We cherished our time with MTT and learned so much working with him to prepare the ‘S&M2’ performances; it was a very high honor to have him on the podium for our shows. He will be sorely missed.”

  • Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello Announces “Leviathan Freedom” Comic Series

    Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello has teamed up with writer/producer Marc Guggenheim, artist Szymon Kudrański, and letterer DC Hopkins for “Leviathan Freedom.” The five-part comic series is a sci-fi reimagining of a true story about Robert Smalls and it will debut this summer as part of the Amazon Comixology Originals digital content line.

    The following was said about the series:

    “In ‘Leviathan Freedom,’ the galaxy is divided by civil war. And the profound human cost of conflict is felt not in the war rooms but by the Doldrums, the laborer caste essential for the war machine — until one man decides to stand against it.”

    Morello commented:

    “For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on a mission to unearth the stories of revolutionaries — the fighters, the visionaries, the ones history either buries or sanitizes beyond recognition. Their courage, defiance, and unwavering pursuit of justice, often in the face of seemingly impossible odds, have shaped the world, even if their names are too often left out of the narrative. Robert Smalls is one of those heroes. The idea of taking his revolutionary spirit and launching it into the cosmos feels like a perfect extension of his fight.”

    Guggenheim added:

    “‘Leviathan Freedom’ comes as a reminder that true freedom is rarely given and very often must be taken.”

  • Blood Incantation To Release “All Gates Open (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)” In June

    Blood Incantation will be releasing the official soundtrack for their “All Gates Open: In Search Of Absolute Elsewhere” documentary on June 5. The effort, which is titled “All Gates Open (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack),” will be available on Blu-ray, vinyl, and digitally. The physical copies will also include several music videos and the documentary, which focuses on the 2023 recording sessions for “Absolute Elsewhere” at Hansa Studios.

  • Sepultura’s Derrick Green Is Putting Together A New Band

    It looks like Sepultura’s Derrick Green is planning to push forward following the band’s farewell tour. The frontman recently told Heavy Matters that he is already putting together a new band.

    Green said the following about his future plans:

    “There’s so many possibilities, endless possibilities. I’ve always been into photography, and I will continue to do that. I’ve been really into fitness and health and this plant-based world, and I’ll continue doing that. And I will continue doing music. I definitely would love to do another band. And I’m putting that together as we speak.

    Trying to align with certain people, it’s like starting from scratch — well, not necessarily from scratch, but it’s definitely a challenge to form that connection with people again — different people. After being with a band for so long — I’ve been especially with [Sepultura guitarist] Andreas [Kisser] and [Sepultura bassist] Paulo [Xisto Pinto Jr.] for so many years, since like 1998 — so it’s interesting to think back and then now be where we’re at, where it’s just, like, ‘Okay, I’ll try to find other people to jam with.’ It’s exciting, I have to say.”

    He also added the following when asked if it will be similar to Sepultura or more hardcore:

    “I was able to learn so much and take away so much being with Sepultura, and I will use different elements from that. Then, the hardcore, of course, it’s always flowing in my blood. And then also a lot of melodical-type stuff I was doing. I felt that I’ve grown and evolved in being able to do that. So I wanna have a mix of that, and for sure have a heavy groove on whatever it is I’m gonna do in the future. So I’m looking forward to really combining all those different elements.”

  • Spirit Adrift To Play Their Farewell Shows On 2026 Decibel Magazine Tour

    Spirit Adrift are set to replace Fulci on this year’s Decibel Magazine Tour. Notably, the trek will double as the band’s farewell tour.

    Frontman Nate Garrett said the following:

    “We were sorry to hear that our friends in Fulci are unable to make it to the States for the Decibel tour. But we’re honored to step in on short notice and make this happen. Since we announced the end of Spirit Adrift, a lot of y’all have been clamoring for a farewell tour, so here you go. Decibel Magazine has always been so supportive of Spirit Adrift, so this was an offer we simply could not refuse.

    We’re psyched to be the black sheep of the tour, old school doom/heavy metal smack in the middle of a powerhouse lineup of incredible death metal bands. We’ll be playing songs from our new (and final) album Infinite Illumination, as well as highlights of the back catalog.

    Hopefully we’ll see some of you long time Spirit Adrift fans out there, and maybe we can even win over the more extreme metal fans. We’ll definitely be breaking our necks to ‘Slit Your Guts’ with y’all every night. Can’t wait!”

    Fulci also commented:

    “Sometimes the real horror doesn’t come from the screen.

    Due to delays in our U.S. visa process, we won’t be able to take part in the Decibel Tour. We did everything possible, but the approval didn’t arrive in time and this is completely out of our control.

    We’re honestly gutted. We put months of work, energy, and anticipation into this, and it would have been incredible to hit the road with such a killer lineup: @necrot_official @cryptopsyofficial Blood Monolith

    We still encourage all of you to go out and support the tour. It’s going to be something special. Stepping in our place will be our brothers Spirit Adrift @spiritadrift , go show them your support.

    To everyone who was waiting to see us across the U.S. and Canada, we feel it just as much. Not being on that stage feels like the gates of hell have been forced shut before the ritual could begin.

    But this is not the end. The gates of hell will open, and the dead will rise and walk the earth again.
