• Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan Says He Only Has “30 Percent Vision”, Discusses The Possibility Of Retirement

During a recent interview with Uncut magazine, Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan discussed the possibility of retirement. The singer also revealed that he only has “30 percent vision.”

    Gillan said the following:

“It’s one of those things. I’ve only got 30 percent vision. That won’t get better. It makes life mysterious. The hardest thing is working on my laptop. I can’t see anything on the screen unless I use my peripheral vision; I pick up a line by looking at it sideways. But you find a way. You adapt. But it’s achingly tiresome. It takes a long time to do the work.”

He went on to say he still has a sense of humor:

“It’s hilarious this growing old thing. It’s a laugh a minute. Well, sometimes yes and sometimes no. I walk down the road and hear something drop off — clang, there’s something else gone. Nothing’s changed really apart from I can’t pole vault any more. Other than that, things move a little more slowly. But nothing’s changed.”

He also added the following about retirement:

“I think if I lose my energy I’m going to stop. I don’t want to be an embarrassment to anyone. We’re not far off that. It creeps up on you — you don’t really notice.”

  • Svalbard Share Music Video For Final Single “If We Could Still Be Saved”

Svalbard have premiered a new video for their new song “If We Could Still Be Saved.” The track serves as the band’s final single as they prepare to wrap up their career.

    Guitarist/vocalist Serena Cherry commented:

“We spend most of our lives unaware of finality. Blissfully oblivious to when those musical notes played will be our last.

So, when we can see an end in sight for something, it distorts the view. Like a funeral marked in your calendar a year in advance. Appreciation shows it’s sheepish face and whispers: ‘sorry I took so long.’

This is the last time we will release a song as Svalbard. Its a song not just heavy with riffs but heavy with sentiment, reflecting on our 15 years as a band. It’s also a parting gift to all of the people who have supported us.

Think of it as the metal version of “Goodbye” by the Spice Girls!”

“There may be some music in the works. We like to tell you what we’re doing, the things that are planned. The problem is that so much of what we may bring up never comes to fruition, [but] music, yeah, that looks pretty damn… more than possible. Probable. I’m not going to give you any hints, but I only write when there’s a project — and I’ve been writing.”

  • Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Wants To Perform In Space

During an interview with Metal Hammer, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine expressed a desire to play the band’s final show in space. According to him, it would be a “fitting climax.”

    Mustaine said the following:

“I hope we’ll be playing up in space. I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool.”

    He continued:

“I saw they sent up a bunch of celebrities into space and I thought ‘Well, if them, why not me?’, you know? I’m just watching how that all progresses. I know Elon Musk and Richard Branson were working on interstellar travel. I think people are going to be travelling to space a lot sooner than you think.”

    He also added:

“People already travel over 40,000 feet altitude, and when you get to that kind of atmosphere you’re basically already in space. So I do think it’s going to happen. The question is, are people going to be able to inhabit the moon?”
