The Damned Things Confirm New Lineup, Announce New Album “High Crimes”

The Damned Things have officially confirmed their new lineup. Rob Caggiano (Volbeat, ex-Anthrax) and Josh Newton (Shiner, ex-Every Time I Die) recently exited the group and as previously rumored Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) has joined as their new bassist. The rest of the lineup consists of original members Scott Ian (Anthrax), Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die), Joe Trohman (Fall Out Boy), and Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy). The band will be releasing a new album titled “High Crimes” on April 26 and are currently booked to perform at Welcome To Rockville on May 4 and at Epicenter on May 11.

Trohman talked about the new album with Kerrang!, saying it was originally going to be an EP “but then it got to the point where [they] just made a whole record.” He continued:

“The more we put into it, the more we were, like, ‘Okay, let’s just do this,'” he said. “I hate using the terms ‘organically,’ because it’s a pretty shitty buzzword, but it happened organically. [Laughs]”

He also added:

“I originally wanted to open the record with this song called ‘Storm Charmer’ because it was really slow and ominous, which is probably a bad idea. [Laughs] I think I love ‘Cells’ — that is one of my favorite songs on the record. ‘Cells’, ‘Omen’ and ‘Carry A Brick’ are some of my favorites.

Honestly, I’ve been sitting with the demos for nearly two years, and I still haven’t got sick of any of it. I don’t listen to it in a self-serving way. I’ll listen to them and think, ‘When am I going to hate them?’ And every time I listen to them, I really like all these songs. It’s the first time I’ve listened to a record and found there’s not a lot I would change. With making anything, I could tweak it forever, but I think with this one, the mentality was just: go in, write these songs, and when they’re done, they’re done. Don’t overthink anything. Hopefully, by approaching it in a ‘Let’s make them sound really cool and not tweak them forever’ stance, then they would be the rawest possible version. I though the last record was definitely a little flippant in production, and I just wanted to pull back on that.”

Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) Reportedly Joins The Damned Things

Scott Ian (Anthrax) has shared a new photo that seems to suggest that Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) has joined The Damned Things. Though not confirmed, some believe he could be replacing bassist Josh Newton (Shiner, ex-Every Time I Die), who is absent in the picture. Rob Caggiano (Volbeat, ex-Anthrax) recently confirmed his exit from the band as well, but as he said, the group already have enough guitarists, so it is unlikely that they will need to replace him. The band, which also features Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die), Joe Trohman (Fall Out Boy), and Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy), are currently booked for Welcome To Rockville (May 4) and Epicenter (May 11).
