Metallica To Film Live Concert For Drive-In Theaters, Announce Appearance On “The Howard Stern Show”

Metallica will be filming a special live concert that will be shown in various drive-in theaters across North America on August 29. The screenings will also include an opening set from Three Days Grace. Prior to that, Metallica will be making a virtual appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” this Wednesday (August 12).

The band said the following about the drive-in screenings:

“It’s been a crazy, hectic, thrilling and exciting time at Metallica HQ as the four of us have all been in the same room making music for the first time in almost a year! “What’s going on?” you ask? We’re recording a concert to appear at your local drive-in theater… that’s what!

We’ll be the first rock band to be featured in the Encore Drive-In Nights series, with a full set screening August 29th at hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada. We’ve been rehearsing at HQ for a show that will be shot specially for the drive-ins at a location nearby later this week and then we’ll pass it off to our award winning production team to then be edited and mixed at the highest standards possible to be beamed into your cars from the big screen.

The Fifth Member pre-sale starts August 12th 12:00pm local time at ticketmaster.com/encore-metallica. Fifth Members should check their e-mail or click here for more details.

The general on-sale will begin on August 14th, also at 12:00pm local time. Every ticket purchase – which admits one carload of up to six people – will include four mp3 digital downloads the upcoming release of S&M2.

Needless to say, this is an exciting first for us, as we continue to explore new ways to connect with you and keep playing live… this definitely qualifies as a unique and memorable experience for us. We hope you think so too!

Additional information about Encore Drive-In Nights can be found at ticketmaster.com/encoredriveinnights. The exclusive concert will adhere to guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as all state and local public health mandates. Encore Drive-In Nights has partnered with leading health experts to establish procedures for staff and fans.”

They also added the following about their appearance on “The Howard Stern Show”:

“Happy Monday! We’re back again on this busy Monday morning with more exciting news from HQ. Our great friend, and ever loyal Metallica supporter, Howard Stern has invited us to pay a virtual visit to his show this Wednesday, August 12. It’s going to be yet another first during this very unusual time as we’ll be hanging in Northern California at HQ and chatting with Howard while he’s camped out in his home studio. In between the banter we’re going to fire up the amps, get behind the drums and beam a few songs live to Howard as well. Tune in for lots of conversation and some morning metal!

Check out The Howard Stern Show on Howard Stern’s exclusive SiriusXM channel Howard 100 and for more information on SiriusXM, please visit SiriusXM.com and HowardStern.com. And thanks to Howard for inviting us back… we look forward to catching up!”

The following guests also contributed to the record: Lacey Sturm (ex-Flyleaf), Adam Gontier (Saint Asonia, ex-Three Days Grace), Scooter Ward (Cold), Spencer Chamberlain (Underoath), and Michael Barnes (Red).

“Aurora” Track Listing:

01. “So Cold”
02. “Failure” (feat. Michael Barnes)
03. “Far Away” (feat. Scooter Ward of Cold)
04. “Angels Fall”
05. “Red Cold River” (feat. Spencer Chamberlain)
06. “Tourniquet”
07. “Dance With The Devil” (feat. Adam Gontier)
08. “Never Again”
09. “Torn In Two”
10. “Dear Agony” (feat. Lacey Sturm)

Frontman Benjamin Burnley and all of the album’s special guests commented:

Burnley:

“This album is a celebration of our incredible fans; for those who have been there since hearing ‘So Cold‘ for the first time in 2004, and the new ones who have joined us on this amazing journey along the way. We’ve always shared a unique emotional connection to our music with our fans, and this album attributes to those dark times and euphoric ones. From wherever you joined along the road to Aurora, this one is for you. Thank you.”

Sturm:

“I love the mystical kind of lyrics that a thousand different people can sing and each person feels like it was written just for them and what they are going through. This is the magic of Breaking Benjamin songs that I love. Ben asked me to sing on this acoustic version of ‘Dear Agony‘ at a time when singing the lyrics sliced through me in a deeply prophetic way. It was a revelatory and healing experience. I’m so thankful.”

Ward:

“I’m very honored and blessed to be a part of such a beautiful song and project. Ben’s writing has had a special place in our hearts for many years. Thankful to be a part of this.”

Gontier:

“Ben asked me to be a part of this record, and of course I said yes. We’ve been close friends for over 20 years, and Breaking Benjamin has been a big influence on me over the years. I’m REALLY stoked that Ben and I have finally found a way to get our voices on a track together. Also, ‘Dance With the Devil‘ is one of my favorite songs by anyone. Ever.”

Chamberlain:

“Touring with Breaking Benjamin was not only one of my favorite tours we’ve done in years but we also left the tour with life long friends. Being asked to sing on ‘Red Cold River‘ was very flattering and a complete honor. I love these guys as musicians and as people, I’m honored to be a small part of their journey.”

Barnes:

“I was honored to be a part of Breaking Benjamin’s new acoustic record along side so many other amazing singers – can’t wait to hear the whole thing!”

As previously reported, you can catch Breaking Benjamin on tour with Korn early next year.

Three Days Grace Share New Video For The Kenya Project

Three Days Grace and World Vision Canada are celebrating World Humanitarian Day with the release of a new video for the Kenya Project, a MTN Of Hope social justice initiative that was created by the band. The clip offers fans a look at Matt Walst and Neil Sanderson’s 2018 trip to Kenya in which they got a firsthand look at the different things that could be done to help the communities in the area.

Sanderson commented:

“We were inspired everywhere we went and by everyone we met because what we experienced isn’t what we thought it would be. I learned that poverty is not hopelessness. Hope is around every corner; sometimes you just have to look for it.

When you meet communities of families and children who mostly live off $2 a day, but greet you with the biggest smiles and are so full of hope and resilience, it makes you take stock of your life and how lucky we are to be born in Canada. We were given every resource and freedom to create opportunities at making a career as a band. Now we have an opportunity to use our career to build awareness and invite our fans from all over the world to join us at creating change to people that can use a hand up.”

The Kenya Project seeks to protect children from violence and to provide them with clean water. The group previously donated $1 from every ticket sold for their fall 2018 Canadian tour to the initiative.

Underoath, Ex-Flyleaf, Ex-Three Days Grace, Etc. Members To Guest On Breaking Benjamin’s New Acoustic Album

It looks like Breaking Benjamin’s upcoming acoustic album will feature a number of special guests. During an interview with HardDrive Radio, Benjamin Burnley confirmed that the effort will include guest vocals from Spencer Chamberlain (Underoath), Lacey Sturm (ex-Flyleaf), Adam Gontier (ex-Three Days Grace), and Michael Barnes (Red).

Burnley said the following about the acoustic tracks:

“They all have orchestration on ’em — like, full orchestra on ’em. And then there’s four that have guest vocalists that [are] really, really amazing. They did so good. I have Lacey Sturm — she used to be the singer for Flyleaf — she’s doing a song with me called ‘Dear Agony‘… She was great. She nailed it, man. And she’s so fun to work with, too. She just nails it every time. And she’s such an incredible singer. So she did that.

And then Spencer from Underoath did ‘Red Cold River‘. And then Adam Gontier, the original singer for Three Days Grace, he did a song called ‘Dance With The Devil‘ with me. And then Mike, the singer for Red, did ‘Failure‘ with me.”

He also added:

“[They’re] all are friends of mine. So I just was, like, ‘How can we put some more of an original spin on this so it’s not just a remake of things? So that’s what I came up with. And I tried to get a couple of more too, but it was a time thing. These guys, more so than anything, they’re my friends. So that’s what’s cool about it to me — that they’re my friends on a record with me.”
