Sonata Arctica To Release New Album “Talviyö” In September, Premiere “A Little Less Understanding” Lyric Video

Sonata Arctica have announced that their new album “Talviyö” will be released on September 6. You can check out a lyric video for the first single, “A Little Less Understanding,” below:

Vocalist Tony Kakko said the following about the song:

“The song is lyrically somewhat a follow up for ‘I Have A Right’ and talks about the difficulty of making the right choices with the upbringing of a new human being.”

He also commented on the album:

“The idea was to create an album that is musically in line with at least the previous two albums. I am very happy with the songs and the general mood of the album. Some career highlights there, I feel.”

Keyboardist Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg added:

“We recorded a bunch of kick-ass songs and tried some new stuff as well. I’m really proud of how we managed to record the band sounding more live, playing together instead of just tracking everything one by one.”

“Mikko [Tegelman] produced the album and he really managed to push us to do our best, even with the more experimental stuff. Working with an outside producer was the biggest new thing we tried this time.”

Klingenberg also commented on the artwork:

“We were talking about having an album cover made from a photo and luckily managed to find this award-winning photographer Onni Wiljami who actually hails from a village not too far from our hometown and his pictures were just perfect for this album.”

The Dark Element (Ex-Nightwish, Ex-Sonata Arctica) Finish New Album

The Dark Element, the band featuring Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica), have officially finished their second album. Olzon confirmed the news in the below Instagram post. The effort is expected to be released this fall.

The Dark Element (Ex-Nightwish, Ex-Sonata Arctica) Working On New Album

The Dark Element, the band featuring Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica), have entered the studio to work on their second album. The effort is expected to be released in fall 2019.

Olzon commented:

“I’m so excited that me and Jani will make new music again! Our first album is still proving to be such an amazing ride for me and it turned out to be maybe the best thing I’ve ever done, so far. Great songs are in the works and of course me and Jani will have so much fun hearing how the album grows from simple demos to the final master. I’ve recorded some first vocal demos and can already say that this will be as fun recording as the first one! Great times ahead and I can’t wait for you to hear our album number 2!”

Liimatainen added:

“[My] journey with wonderful Anette and the excellent Frontiers label will continue. The first album turned out even better than I had hoped and the reception we we got from the fans was unbelievable. During this past spring, I started putting together some new material for us and now all the songs are written. I am writing this on Wednesday, 21st of November, and by this time next week we are already going to be in the studio laying down the drum tracks for what I am sure will be another excellent album. So what can you expect? Musically, I think the album picks up where the last album left off. It’s very heavy, but still hyper melodic, and this time we are even exploring new musical territories we didn’t on the previous album. Now that me and Anette have one album together under our belts, we have found the style we want to pursue and also the ideal way of working together. Given all this, I think it’s safe to say that with the next album you’ll get even more of what made the first album so good, only it’s gonna be bigger, better and bolder!”

Sonata Arctica Recording New Album, Announce “Acoustic Adventures” European Tour

Sonata Arctica have confirmed that they have been in the studio recording a new album, which is expected to be released in 2019. With this news, the band have also announced a European acoustic tour with Witherfall.

Keyboardist Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg commented:

“We’ve been locked up in the studio since the end of the summer working on our next studio album and decided we needed to take a break and go out and play some shows.

In the summer of 2016, we did an acoustic summer tour in Finland which was a lot of fun for both us and our fans; in fact, it was so great that we wanted to do it again and this time we’re not settling for just Finland — but taking this show all around Europe for the first time ever.

Now is a unique chance to hear our music in a completely different setting and we’re sure these evenings will be something really special. Our set will also include some stuff we’ve never played live before, and who knows — maybe even a new song from the upcoming album. See you at the shows!”
