Swallow The Sun Premiere “Firelights” Music Video

Swallow The Sun have premiered a new video for their new song “Firelights.” This track is from the band’s new album “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light,” which will be released on January 25.The group commented:

“From the ultimate depths of Lumina Aurea, we rose upon the water. Now it is time to light the first torches in the night. Death might be stronger than life, but Love is always stronger than death. This is Firelight!”

Swallow The Sun Premiere New Song “Upon The Water”

Swallow The Sun have premiered a new song titled “Upon The Water.” The track is inspired by the death of Aleah Liane Stanbridge and it will appear on the band’s new album “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” (out January 25). Guitarist Juha Raivio commented:

“Every word and note I wrote, I wrote for Aleah. And about my own battle since she passed. The album title, ‘When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light’, comes from Aleah’s own words, ‘When a shadow is forced into the light.’ That was exactly what I needed to do. To push myself out from the shadows. I’ve been pretty much a hermit in the woods for two and a half years. Gathering my life to write this album. That’s also why the subject is very personal and therefore hard for me to talk about. I’d rather leave it all to the music and words on ‘When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light’ to tell the story. It’s all there.”

Swallow The Sun Premiere “Lumina Aurea” Video

Swallow The Sun have premiered a new video for their standalone 14-minute single “Lumina Aurea.” That track is available now on 12-inch vinyl and digitally. The clip was directed and produced by Aapo Lahtela and Vesa Ranta.

Guitarist Juha Raivio said the following:

“‘Lumina Aurea’ is a song I would never want to write in my life. It is an open, bleeding black wound from the last two and half years of my life. But I had to write it out. I could not back down from it.

“The way I wrote and recorded ‘Lumina Aurea’ was so rough emotionally and physically that I think I will never talk about it public. I know this road will go on forever as a part of me, but I have also made a peace with it — that I will never have peace with it. And that the life and the journey here must still go on for a while for those of us remaining.

“I knew that if I would go any deeper on that road with the album as I did with ‘Lumina Aurea’, the path would not end well. So, I quickly realized that instead I will write an album that will manifest loud and clear that after all, ‘Love is always stronger than death.’ I wanted to find that angle for ‘When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light’. This album is like a weapon for myself. A burning light, a burning torch. Victorious and proud.”

Ranta also commented:

“The idea for this short-film-like music video came from Juha Raivio and we tweaked the idea a bit to make the story fit into the beautiful landscapes we were going to film it in. The video has been filmed in several locations around Northern Finland and Lappland.

“We would like to leave the meaning of the story a bit open and to let everyone watching it to make their own conclusions and let their imagination flow. As obvious, things such as grief, torment and even love are present through the video. This is pretty much all we would like to open about it. Some kind of mysticism there definitely is. It was a great pleasure for us to get work with this project, since the song has such a meaning for Juha.”

In other news, the group will release their new album “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” on January 25.

Swallow The Sun To Release New Album “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” In January

Swallow The Sun have announced that their new album “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” will be released on January 25. That effort will be preceded by a standalone 14-minute single titled “Lumina Aurea.” That release will be available on 12-inch vinyl and digitally on December 21.

The following was said about the releases:

“Fueled by personal loss (the album title has its origins in Trees of Eternity’s “Broken Mirror”) and powered by the will to continue, “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” showcases the group’s ability to maintain its signature sound while expanding upon horizons and diving deeper into the crevasse of doom-death metal. Even though the single and the album are conceptually connected, they are musically completely different. While “Lumina Aurea” – featuring Wardruna’s Einar Selvik and The Foreshadowing’s Marco I. Benevento – marks the band’s darkest and most sinister piece of music the band has ever released, “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” follows a more positive approach and continues in the vein of previous albums – first-rate death-doom in the typical style of SWALLOW THE SUN.”
