According to Billboard, the official Metallica “Black Album” tribute record, “The Metallica Blacklist,” has hit No. 7 on the Top Album Sales chart. The compilation, which features over 50 artists covering songs from the “Black Album,” made the ranking after physicals copies hit stores earlier this month. 8,000 units were sold in the U.S. during the week ending on October 7. This includes 6,300 CD copies and 1,400 vinyl copies.

According to Billboard, Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album (aka “The Black Album”) has re-entered the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time in 29 years. The effort hit No. 9 on the chart after moving 37,000 units in the U.S. following the release of the 30th anniversary edition of the record. 29,000 were from pure album sales.

Elton John Says Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” Is “One Of The Best Songs Ever Written”

During Metallica and Miley Cyrus’ recent appearance on “The Howard Stern Show”, the group were joined by Elton John via video link. John was brought on the program to discuss his guest spot on Cyrus’ cover of “Nothing Else Matters”, which is featured on the new “Black Album” tribute record “The Metallica Blacklist.” John says it was a “no-brainer” to contribute to the track, while also adding:

“This is one of the best songs ever written, to me. It’s a song that never gets old. Playing on this track I just couldn’t wait because the chord structure, the melodies, the time changes — it’s got drama written all over it.”

Notably, John’s kind words actually moved Metallica frontman James Hetfield to tears.

Metallica Read One Star Reviews Of “The Black Album” And Perform Live On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Last night (September 10), Metallica made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote the 30th anniversary expanded edition of “The Black Album” and its companion tribute album “The Metallica Blacklist.” During the show, the band took part in an interview, read one star reviews of the “The Black Album,“ and performed “Wherever I May Roam” and “Holier Than Thou.” You can see footage of that below:
