  • A Perfect Circle’s Billy Howerdel On New Music: “There’s More Underway”

During a recent interview with 93X, A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel discussed the band’s plans for new music beyond their recent single “Starless.” According to him, “there’s more underway.”

    Howerdel said the following:

“There’s more [music] underway. And in the spirit of soft deadlines, I’m not gonna give you the date, but we’re working toward something.”

    He continued:

“We’re on tour. It’s hard to get solid things done when you’re out here. I sometimes optimistically think that’s gonna happen, and, like today, we’re six shows in, so we’re about two weeks in, and this is the first day I really slept, even though I might not look like it. I just slept, went to the gym, ate a meal, got on with you, and it’s not been like that. So to get real cracking on to the new album, it’s gonna be… I need a couple more of these days to line up over the next tour.”

He also added the following about his working relationship with vocalist Maynard James Keenan:

“I feel more creative with him [than I do with other musicians]. I don’t know. I mean, you’d have to ask Maynard, but I feel like when it’s time to work, it’s time to work for him. Or it’s time to fuck around and just shoot the shit, then that’s what we’re gonna do then. But when it’s time to work, we’re kind of in it. And it’s not super serious all the time, but it’s focused. And he’s got a great work ethic. I don’t know anyone — I mean, he’s at least in the top three hardest-working people I know that have real vision, conviction, a vision that he’s gonna execute and be tenacious about it. And he’s like that with music. Once the train starts rolling, it, it’s rolling. Then that feels good. I don’t anticipate it going like, ‘Eh, I don’t know. This is kind of softly not going the way we want it to be.’ No, we’re gonna figure it out. We’re gonna set soft deadlines, which I guess they can be hard deadlines, but our soft deadlines are pretty intense. They’re meant to be hit. Anything could happen, but when we’re underway, it just feels, like, ‘Okay, we’re moving in the right direction.’ Now, you can’t force the greatest idea to come out, but you can get yourself motivated to go, ‘If I don’t hit this deadline, then bad shit’s gonna happen.’ So it’s a fire lit under your ass.”

  • Alex Varkatzas (Ex-Atreyu, Etc.) Completes Firefighting Training

It looks like Alex Varkatzas (Dead Icarus, ex-Atreyu) is set to become a firefighter. The frontman recently completed his training for the career.

    Varkatzas commented:

“@mvcfireacademy54 graduation today. Grateful for my friends and family coming. I couldn’t have done this without their love and support. We have been working hard since pre academy in Jan. Up @ 4am, PT @ 5:30am usually not home til around 6pm everyday, mon-fri for 16 weeks. Countless hours of studying, training and drills has led up to today and to be honest this is just the start. There is a lot i want to say but i don’t know how to sum it all up. I’ll leave you with this….

Don’t ever give up on yourself. Losing is not the same thing as failing and winning doesn’t teach half the lessons that losing does. Be a student of life. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and when you falter , get up and just keep going. The only way to truly fail is to quit. I wish you all peace and power.”

  • Mothica Releases Lo-Fi Version Of “Somewhere In Between” EP

Mothica has released a lo-fi version of her latest EP “Somewhere In Between.” The reimagined effort, which is titled “Somewhere In Between (mothicorp’s lofi breakroom beats),” features tracks with vocals and instrumentals. A limited edition cassette can be pre-ordered HERE. Mothica commented:

“’Somewhere In Between’ has always lived in an emotional and liminal space for me. Turning these songs into lofi remixes with Nathan Miller only felt natural. I wanted them to feel like memories you revisit at 2am, softer, dreamier and a little haunted. I’m so excited to have these on a cassette designed by Madison Schubert so my fans can feel the nostalgia in this sound even more.”

  • Trivium Frontman Matt Heafy: “We’re Sitting On Arguably Our Greatest Album Of All Time”

During a recent interview with Rock Sound, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy discussed the band’s upcoming album. According to him, the effort is “arguably [their] greatest album of all time.”

    Heafy said the following:

“We have [Alex Rüdinger] now on drums, who we tried to get 10 years ago, and we couldn’t get him 10 years ago. And for those 10 years, he told us that he wondered and regretted every day not being in the band. And we wondered what that was supposed to be, and now we finally have him. We’re sitting on arguably our greatest album of all time. It’s not out yet. We’re still mixing it. So I think this is a new chapter.”

He also discussed the band’s “Struck Dead” EP:

“Yeah, we originally started the ‘Struck Dead’ EP with the intent of it being part of a full record, and as plans kept shifting, things kept changing and we found ourselves evolving and growing very quickly once again, because I feel like there’s different stages of growth in life. Just like with children — they have these different brain leaps where all of a sudden they’re starting to use new words, new skills, trying new things out. I feel like as a band, we’re hitting that. And we felt inspired and started writing new material.

I remember the first day that we jammed with Rudi, we flew him in to Florida and said, ‘Okay, welcome. This is day one. You’re gonna write new music with us.’ And so from the day one where he showed up expecting to play our set for the tour coming up, he had to write new music with us, and it really blossomed from there.

When everyone sees us live [at the 2026 Download festival], they’ll see what’s happened. They’ll see this growth. They’ll see where only since we were… We played here [in the U.K.] last August [at the Bloodstock Open Air festival]. It’s a completely different Trivium now. Better than ever in every single facet of the way, and this new music is incredible. This new music, I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

  • Hollywood Undead Planning To Release New Album In Early 2027

During an interview with Rock Sound, Hollywood Undead’s Johnny 3 Tears offered an update on the band’s new album. According to him, the effort will be released “at the beginning of next year.”

    Johnny said the following:

“We’ll put a new record out at the beginning of next year, it looks like. So we’re probably not gonna drop any songs till then, or maybe another song. But none of the songs we put out [in recent months] will be on the record. Those are all just releases, standalone songs.”

He also added the following after the interviewer mentioned how rock artists have been releasing more standalone singles like hip-hop and pop artists:

“[Rock artists have been] collabing a lot, a lot of bands doing stuff together. Hip-hop’s been doing it since the ’80s. And the thing is now it’s, like, for a long time you had to wait two years to put out material, till the record ran its course. Now we’ll just put out songs. We’ll never play it. It’s like, dude, we wrote it. Why not?”
