Trivium Officially Confirm That They Have Recruited Drummer Alex Bent

Trivium have officially confirmed that Alex Bent (Dragonlord, ex-Battlecross, etc.) will be handling the drumming duties on their European/UK tour. It is unknown if his role in the band is permanent. Bassist Paolo Gregoletto said the following:

“So as to who is playing for us in the UK/EU… Alex sent us this video two days after being put in touch with him. We also had a few weeks of rehearsal together in November. 💯”

This news comes after Matt Heafy previously revealed that the group’s last three drummers were just “session” members.

Trivium’s Matt Heafy Says Past Three Drummers Were “Session Drummers”

Trivium’s Matt Heafy recently talked with Metal Insider, and said that the band’s past three drummers, Nick Augusto, Mat Madiro and Paul Wandtke, were all just “session drummers.” You can see what he had to say about that below

“What I feel we need to clarify, is that the last three drummers, everyone has been a session drummer within our band. The band has been Corey, Paolo and myself since the beginning. As far as the rumors go with who plays with us now, I really like to push with people, is that the last time we had an official band member that was a drummer, was Travis [Smith]. While we absolutely wish him well, he’s not with us anymore – and that’s because of the four of us.

The chemistry between the four of us…we weren’t able to make something great between the four of us anymore, so we decided among all four of us that we need to separate. Since then, most currently having Paul play with us, the future will always be in the hands of the person on the drum throne. It’s very difficult for anybody to fill the shoes of a legacy and a time. Only time will tell, and we’ve always been up for what the fourth player brings to the table.”

He also added:

“…I think that’s really something people don’t know – that the last three guys were session players. Maybe that’s the fault of Corey, Paolo, and myself for not saying it more often, but that’s just how it was. We wish nothing but the best for anyone that’s ever played with us, but sometimes a session musician is the same idea as the band’s sound guy – you’re working for the same common goal with them, but those aren’t the people in the band.”

Trivium Rumored To Have Replaced Their Drummer

According to Blabbermouth, Trivium may have changed drummers once again. The article mentioned that Alex Bent (Dragonlord, ex-Battlecross, etc.) would be taking over for Paul Wandtke.

It is worth noting that Paul Wandtke already has a new project in the works. He commented on that:

“I’m currently looking for a badass vocalist for an original project, listen to a sample of the music here! I have like 4-5 albums worth of material that’s near and dear to my heart. I’d love to work with a male vocalist that has a tenor range that’s pretty self sufficient with melodic and lyrical content (but we can collaborate too etc etc). I’m starting this project for the fun of it and for the sake of releasing music online, and if it gets serious; sick! If not, well then at least we made kickass music and shit.
