Watch Employed To Serve, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Etc. Members Cover Deftones’ “Elite”

Last month, Justine Jones (Employed To Serve), Sammy Urwin (Employed To Serve), Billy Rymer (The Dillinger Escape Plan), Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan), and DJ Scully (The Number Twelve Looks Like You) performed a quarantine cover of Deftones’ “Elite” as part of Metal Injection‘s “Slay At Home” event. You can see footage of that below:

In related news, Jones also recently discussed her love for Deftones’ “White Pony” with Revolver:

“This album is one of my favorites for all-night tour drives and was a big part of me transitioning from teenager to adult. The Deftones catalog in general grows with the fan — there’s an album for every mood. White Pony‘s lyrics are amazing as Chino [Moreno]’s lyrics come across more like dialogue between fictional characters rather than things he’s going through in his life, which was the first I’d noticed a vocalist doing that at the time.”

She also added the following about covering “Elite”:

“It’s one of my favorite Deftones songs that I’ve always wanted to cover. The lyrics are perfect for social media culture right now — despite it being released in 2000! We kept it more or less the same because the song is perfect in my eyes.”

Godla commented:

“By keeping the set times between 5 and 15 minutes for each artist, it allows me to not only keep things moving, but mix it up in ways that conventional festivals simply can’t. Every single hour will contain big names and emerging artists right next to each other.

I’m trying to look at the bright side of our current situation, and not only make this an entertaining way to see the artists you love flex their creativity in new ways, but hope this event acts as a place of discovery for every viewer out there.

Finding a band or artist to fall in love with is the mark of a great festival to me, and it’s my honor to share the work of these amazing individuals I curated because I’m passionate about them. I’ve been in touch with all of them every step of the way, and some even managed to throw me a few surprises.

I’m honored and humbled to have all of them part of this, they truly went above and beyond to showcase their craft for the Slay At Home fest, and I can’t wait for the world to see something really special come to life this weekend.”

Money raised from the event will benefit MusiCares and Global Giving.
