Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick On His New Project White Light District: “It’s Heavy, Ugly Music”
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Justin K Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, etc.) discussed his new project White Light District. According to him, the material will be “heavy” and “ugly.”
Broadrick said the following:
“I wouldn’t dare call it a Godflesh replacement. Because it’s heavy, ugly music, people may venture that it is, but it will be less rock based. It’s not confined by that instrumentation. It will sound like Glenn Branca with metal guitars, except it’s not metal: 15 layers of guitar that create this ultra-cluster of fucking hallucinatory dissonance, which could not be created by a band.”
The frontman will shift his focus to that project as well as Jesu, JK Flesh, etc. following the completion of Godflesh’s final album. That effort is titled “The End” and he plans to record it in November/December. However, it will feature more high-pitched screams and spoken-word pieces due to his growls being limited by his hernia surgery.
On another note, Broadrick also revealed that he may continue to collaborate with Phoebe Bridgers after appearing on her latest album “Lost Weekend”:
“The fact that she was so personable and we were immediate friends was brilliant for me, but I was overwhelmed by how big she is. I was literally sending music to Taylor Swift’s personal engineer! I’m catapulted into this huge, mainstream world, and I’m like, ‘How the fuck am I here?!’ She wanted me to play guitar and bass on a song for a film. She said to me a few months ago, ‘I’m just going to keep hitting you up.’”

Blind Channel have premiered a new video for their new song “Stars We See.” You can check that out below. The track is from the band’s new album, “Painstream,” which will be released on October 30.

Emma Ruth Rundle Premieres “God’s Picture” Music Video
Emma Ruth Rundle has premiered a new video for her new song “God’s Picture.” This track is from her new album, “These Killing Times,” which will be released on September 18. Rundle commented:
“‘God’s Picture’ is a meditation on the state of the world, particularly climate disaster, global conflict and class. Musically this song feels like a segue from ‘Engine of Hell,’ with its gentle piano and guitar, to ‘These Killing Times,’ with its more lush arrangements and message. This song is also a plea for the demolition of western hegemony. Accompanied by a music video collaboration with many friends and for which I painstakingly constructed the sets for in the winter of 2025/26, ‘God’s Picture’ is the thesis statement at the core of my new album ‘These Killing Times.’ The characters in ‘God’s Picture’ provide a way both to play and lightly explore the power structures and politics and themes of this time.”

Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Nevermore, Etc. Set For 2027 Fire In The Mountains Festival
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Nevermore, Russian Circles, Stormkeep, Invunche, Rwake, and Buffalo Nichols have been confirmed for next year’s Fire In The Mountains festival. That event will take place at the Red Eagle Campground in Blackfeet Nation, MT on July 22-25, 2027. Further artists are pending.
Organizers commented:
“While we are still processing the immense experience that was Fire In The Mountains 2026 at Red Eagle Campground, we are excited to peel back some of what we have been working on for 2027, which has revealed itself as the Year Of The Eagle. We have quite a special edition in the works for this coming year, featuring bands with a legendary command of soundscapes and artistry, to returning fast riffing metal legends, post metal icons, symphonic black metal rippers, musical purveyors of Chilean mythology, American sludge darkness, and blues laden storytelling.
